  1. Anybody hear any updates? I haven't been here in a few days. -piper
  2. I talked to lilshybaby's friend Nic in who is with her in the ICU. Her intracranial pressure, which is the pressure on her brain, is around 38 according to her friend. With her low blood pressure, she is not getting enough blood to the brain, which means she is not getting enough oxygen to her brain. Our little girl is slipping away, and nothing short of a miracle is going to let her survive. My sympathies go out to all of us who know her. -piper
  3. I figure all you have to do to find out her real name is to read the other post, so I'm going to be calling her Jadie as well. I got a message from her friend who is in the ICU. She is in what is called status epilepticus on top of having a traumatic brain injury. That is a state of constant non-ending seizure. Tonight they are going to put her in what is called hypothermia protocol, where the body is cooled to 91-93 degrees fahrenheit to reduce the metabolic needs of the body and to keep the swelling down inside her brain. This is something that is done when things are really bad and they can't control the swelling. The doctors have told her friend that even with all that they are doing, the chances of survival are pretty slim. From my experience as a Neuro Intensive Care Nurse, where this is my life, every single day, I'm completely terrified because I know the odds are slim. Jadie is a fighter, she's come back from a traumatic brain injury when she was just 12, after 11 weeks in a coma. She can still come out of this. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers, her friend is telling her our posts as they come in all day. Thank you, -piper
  4. she was out shopping. she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time
  5. Hey guys, I got a message from one of lilshybaby's friends that after she got hurt in the riots, she had a broken leg, but worse is that she had some bleeding in her brain. That bleeding caused swelling, and they had to take her for emergency surgery to remove a piece of her skull to prevent the brain from swelling too much. Removing the skull takes some of the pressure off, making it less likely to develop unsurvivable brain damage. She is in critical condition, and is sedated and on life support in the ICU. With her seizures and stuff, she is in really dire straits, and needs all of our support. If you know her, or even if you don't, please post a message of well wishing here so that when she wakes up, her friend can let us know that we were thinking of her all along. Thanks, -piper
  6. lilshybaby was hurt. really badly. and I'm not one to ask people to say prayers or anything, i'm not really religious. but i'm going to say a prayer for her, she needs someone looking out for her. and if i'm going to say one, you blokes sure as hell better say one too. so do it. right now. and say a prayer for lilshybaby. -piper
  7. my sister on here got hurt because of these riots. they shattered her leg and possibly fractured her skull. if you see someone matching the description of asshat who knocks a tiny girl down and breaks her leg, please pick them up and snap them across your knee like a toothpick. thanks, -piper
  8. I got the night version of the birdseye leakmasters, and I heart them so much! The biggest thing about cloth is getting it to fit right. There is a good link off the ADC site on how to fold them. http://www.adultclothdiaper.com/Adult-Diaper-Folding I find that style 2 works best for me and it puts more bulk in front where a guy would need it. Whatever you do, make sure you use proper diaper pins and not regular safety pins or something, i made that mistake and it didn't work and that put me off cloth diapers for a few years. Plastic pants are also a must, but I assume you already know that. Good luck! -piper
  9. I'm sorry to hear you had such a rough time at least it only took a few days. i have had patients there for over 2 weeks waiting to seize, it must be tough. we usually have the attending do a read after just 3 of them so that we can re-load our patients with AED's so they won't seize anymore, but that's just how we are. I work in the ICU now, and we literally cut a patient's skull open, lay a "grid" which is leads in a silicon mat directly onto the brain to get a more detailed picture of where the seizure is coming from to determine if it is resectable. it's pretty spectacular, because it makes it so many of our patients can go medication free and never have seizures again.
  10. yes, VOLCANO!!!!! have you ever filled a soda bottle with dry ice, filled it with water from a squirt bottle, and then sealed the cap and ran the heck away from it as it exploded like an m-80?
  11. good luck with that. I remember when I was a floor nurse we did that all the time on my unit. Now that I am in the neuro ICU, we do the more invasive version called grids and strips where they electrodes are placed directly on the brain. They see if there is a focal point for the seizure activity, and if it's in a non-eloquent spot so they can resect it and therefore remove the seizure trigger. It's pretty amazing stuff. Good luck! -piper
  12. You can get black onesies from http://www.babykins.com on their order page, you have to scroll down to item code 12000 and there is a black onesie. I found it the other day: http://www.babykins.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=B&Product_Code=12000&Category_Code=KCLTH hope this helps! -piper
  13. clear pee isn't going to kill you. to say that pale yellow is the lightest that it should get to prevent "water poisoning" is kind of ridiculous. Drinking like 2 quarts of water a day is fine, especially if you're active.
  14. I met stephen colbert once, he's a really nice guy. every time he would do something that would make someone embarrassed or would sound offensive he would warn them and say that he was in character and that's what his character is saying. I saw him when he did that whole thing with for the US olympic speed skating team.
  15. I'll not be the first to say this, but this is a BAD idea. I'm an ICU Registered Nurse (murse? i'm a guy afterall), and I put foley catheters into people all the time, and even being clean and using betadine to scrub the area beforehand rarely results in a totally clean insertion. If you use an open ended catheter into your diaper, you are almost GUARANTEED to develop a UTI. This is seriously a stupid idea. It's not worth the risk, because some UTI's can't be cured with just some cranberry juice. You can be taking your life into your hands. -piper
  16. and what a step up, you sure went for the top of the line. dry24/7 is my favorite disposable by far. They are pretty much the rock stars of the premium adult diaper world. have fun! -piper
  17. it probably won't fit to be honest, this is really a true extra large. You need to be probably like 250lbs (115kg) to fit into it i would think. Oh, and I won't ship overseas, US only, sorry. -piper
  18. Somehow I got an extra large pink onesie from ebay a few years ago. It is a Baby G's manufactured in Calgary, AB (hehe) canada. Did not realize that it was so big (i am 6'2" but fit into smalls... wtf) and it has been sitting in a box for a number of years. No stains, still brand new. Tried it on once, fiance tried it on once. All told it was probably worn for a grand total of 5 minutes. Anyways, I'm moving stuff and ran across it, and so I wanted it to go to a good home. If you want it, message me here. First come, first serve. You pay actual shipping, I will ship it USPS flat rate envelope, which is $4.95. Payment is preferred through paypal (i can set up an official link) but i guess it would take a money order if you really wanted to waste all that money. -piper
  19. hey, i like snow. scratch that, LOVE snow. and ice. ice climbing, ice skating, SPEED skating (yes, I did that too). Mountaineering in the winter and the like, my favorite activities. And skiing (though I don't do NEARLY enough of it). I've actually tried pocket diapers, and don't actually find them all that appealing. sure they are easy to put on, but I actually find that i enjoy the way that the cloth prefolds fit on me better. The way that I have been folding it gives it this really nice put together look. I need to get some more waterproof pants, as I have one that is way too small and cuts into my gigantic speed skating legs and the other is like 3 sizes too big. oh well, i'll get it all figured out soon.
  20. i think some people misread me, because i was in kind of a weird mood when i dropped my topic in here. I recently started wearing cloth diapers because I ENJOY wearing them, especially to bed. I had only bought 2 of them because I didn't want her thinking that I was wasting money on stuff that we didn't need being that the wedding is coming up 5 weeks from today. What i was all mystified and amazed about was the fact that instead of being all weirded out or just kind of "eh" about it like she usually is, she had a definite opinion which was definitely in my favor. And she encouraged me to get some more, maybe not all right now, but to find some stuff that I liked before buying in bulk after we move to DC. For those out there thinking that I live this life of awesome and luxury because I have a partner who accepts me: she has changed me maybe 5 times in the last 4 years since I told her, so that's not happening too often. I wash/change my own diapers. I do all the sewing in the house, she doesn't even know how to work the sewing machine. She's getting her doctorate, and I am a nurse. Given all that, I certainly appreciate that she accepts me, diaper lover and all, and she even will wear on occasion. I'm sorry if I came off as selfish somehow, it was not my intent.
  21. Sooooo, i recently started wearing cloth diapers, and i've been feeling really insecure about it. And then today my fiance told me how much she applauds that I switched to cloth because it is better for the environment. She says that one of the things that bothered her about it in the past was the environmental impact and the amount of waste that disposables created. So she is all into me wearing cloth... and I'm all like
  22. congratulations!!! that's so amazing! nothing beats being a national champion! where in calgary was it? The only place i've been there is the speed skating oval at the university.
  23. I tried to take my overalls to a tailor the other day saying I wanted snaps put down the inner leg so I could take them off easier for riding my scooter. I'm assuming the people here knew why I wanted to do it. They sort of laughed at me and said it would not be worth their time. Does anybody know an online tailor who would modify a pair of overalls to make it so that there were snaps down the entire leg but still make them hidden under the seam? I know this is possible, I just don't know where to start looking. -piper
  24. people keep saying that it went down, and then it was able to come back up but they wanted to wait until they did this large site overhaul with upgrades that they had been planning. hopefully it will be up soon.
