Natalie's bad day turned worse....

"Hey I in 6th gwade! Silly mommy!" Natalie giggles. Which causes her mommy and the cashier to giggle too. Natalie knew she was right but it did sound funny coming from her especially with her pacifier in her mouth a thick pullup on her bottom. Natalie giggles and kicks the cart like a happy toddler even if something in her brain was telling her it's not funny.

The cashier smiled. "What an active imagination you have." She sighs. "Too bad as we get older. It starts to go away until it is gone forever." Linda nods and walks away pushing the cart towards the exit. She takes the cart to the car and gets Natalie out of the seat. Linda buckles her in and puts the bags on the seat next to Natalie. She puts the cart in the return area and gets into the car. Linda leaves the parking lot and heads towards home.

Natalie feels her tummy rumble "Mommy can we have lunch? My tummy is hungy." Natalie said trying to talk like a big girl.

Linda looks up in the rearview mirror. "Didn't you eat lunch at school? The nurse said you came in after lunch wet from your accident." She looks around the area. "How about a Happy Meal from McDonalds? Will that make the grumbling monster happy?"

"I peepeed before I could eat. Yes pwease mommy!" The large toddler bounces happily cheering for the happy meal. She thinks to herself 'I don't know why this is all happening but maybe today won't be so bad after all.'

Linda smiles. "Easy there little one. We don't want you to bounce out the roof of  the car. It would be hard to catch you if you are bouncing around like a rubber ball." She pulled into a parking place and went around to Natalie's side of the car. Linda opened the door and unbuckled her. "Hold my hand sweetie. I don't want you to walk off from me while we are walking in."

Natalie getting out of the car becomes shy again about just having pullups on her bottom. "Mommy can I have pants again pwease?" Holding her mommy's hand and her shirt down at the same time.

Linda looks at Natalie and her pleading eyes. "Of course sweetie." She puts Natalie's shorts back on her and then walks her into the McDonalds. Linda knelt down. "Which one would you like hamburger, cheeseburger or the nuggets? I know all three are your favorites. If you are a good girl and get your Happy Meal. I'll get you an apple pie for desert."

"Nuggys nuggys nuggys!" She cheers before running to the playplace with her pullups showing thru her shorts and out the waist band just like a toddler.

Linda laughs. "Ok I get you some nuggets. You can go play until the food gets here. She removed Natalie's shoes before she ran off to the playplace. A lady behind her said someone is a ball of energy today and asked how old was she. Mom said Natalie was 10. The lady shook her head and said 10 and still in pullups. She said I guess it takes some kids longer to be potty trained. Linda nods at the lady's comment.

Natalie runs off to the playback and proceeds to climb up as far as she can showing off her new pullups to everyone below. But she fit right in with the few other toddlers playing since the real big kids were still in school for another hour. Natalie runs into a kid a little boy no older than four and he starts giggling. 

"Why you laughing?" Natalie says confused.

"Your the biggest baby I've ever scene!" The boy says. 

"What I no baby! I'm a big girl!" Natalie says sitting down in front of the boy with her hands on her hips in a pout. Not realizing her pullup was in full view, or thinking about the pacifier dangling from her shirt.

The boy laughs even harder! "You are! You got a pacifier and even a diaper! I'm a big kid I wear undies! And don't use pacifiers!"

 

Natalie feels a sudden pang of emotions and wants to cry but squeaks out. "I no baby and dis my pullup. No diaper..." she says absentmindedly putting her pacifier in her mouth. 

"Hahaha your a baby! You probably need a diaper change! Better find your mommy I bet she's got you a baba!" The boy laughs and pushes past Natalie which knocks her down. Natalie can't hold it together much longer and starts to crawl back the way she came crying behind her pacifier before ending up at the bottom and sitting on her butt crying for mommy and something about a baba that no one can make out around her pacifier.

Linda saw Natalie setting on the floor crying. She went inside the play area and picked up Natalie. Linda rubbed her back. "Are you ok sweetie. Did you fall and hurt yourself?" She checks Natalie over for blood or broken bones. Nothing was broken or she wasn't bloody. Linda checked Natalie's pullup. It was damp, but not wet enough to need a change.

"Mama mean boy say I need baba!" Was what Sarah was crying out but her pacifier made everything sound like baby babble. She tucked her pacifier and clung onto her mommy tight.

Linda held her close. "We know that isn't true, Big girls don't drink from bottles. They drink from sippy cups." She wiped away Natalie's tears. "The food should be here in a little bit." Linda got a tissue out of her purse and held it up to Natalie to blow. "Wow. I didn't know I had an elephant for a daughter. I'm not sure one Happy Meal will be enough to feed a little elephant."

Natalie giggles and says "silly mommy" as she is sat down in a booster seat at their table and waits for mommy to come back. She's so happy mommy always makes her feel better.

Linda smiles and leads the table. She comes back with the food and a plastic bib with Ronald McDonald on it. "So you don't drop sauce on your t shirt while you are eating."

"But mommy only babies wear bibs!" Natalie starts to fuss in her booster seat trying to reach her happy meal frustrated and hungry. Just like an upset toddler.

Linda moved the Happy Meal out of Natalie's reach. "Having a tantrum is no way to get an apple pie later. The only thing it will get you in a sore bottom. Is that what you want?"

"But mommy that's no fair! I'm a big girl i am I am i am!!!" Natalie stats to throw a fit kicking her feet and all!

Linda looks at Natalie and pops her bare leg with her palm. "Well you are not acting like one. Big girls don't have temper tantrums over wearing a bib to protect their shirts from making a mess on them. Do I need to pull down your pullup and warm up your bottom for you?"

Natalie starts to.sniffle and cry a little. "But but uh ok mommy me wear the bib I'm sorry."Natalie let's mommy put the bib on her even though she really doesn't wanna wear it but she thinks to herself things could be worse...

Linda smiles. "Good girl. Mommy is proud of you for wearing your bib. See that isn't so bad is it?" She puts the nuggets and fries in front of Natalie. Do you want your milk now or with your apple pie?"

"I try mommy but I don't feel like a big kid no more. I wanna be big girl." Natalie says looking defeated but point to her milk to answer mommy.

Linda looks at Natalie. "Underwear doesn't make you a big girl or a little girl. What determines that is how you feel on the inside. You have always been a big girl to me." She took a straw and poked it into the top of the milk container. "Go ahead and start eating while I go get my drink from the fountain." Linda pats Natalie on the top of the head as she walks off.

"But mommy that's what I mean, I big girl but I need bib, and pullups, and my pacifier. Me still big girl?" Natalie says looking up as she noticed her mommy was already walking away. Natalie starts to messily eat her lunch.
