The little sandman reference in europe and other parts of the world.

Hello 

In some of my stories I use the figure of the sandman as a figure bringing little childs their nice dreams. In European Pop culture the sandman is mostly a kids figure known from many little stories and I was wondering if that is also a known thing in other parts of the world and if it is understood as something nice and childish in other cultures.
