A different story?

Lacey looked sadly at Nicole and then went back to sit in her wet seat.  She was sorry that her big sister was in pain.

Jim wasn't sure if the little girl was looking at anything in particular, but he thought she looked like she wanted something.

"Honey, was there something you wanted?" he asked her.

[Ishigreensa]

Jim decided not to press her, and just get the food.

Once he had the food, he gave her one of the bags, and then held her hand and walked her back towards the car.

"It's going to be a while before we can go home, honey.  But we'll get you some clean clothes soon, okay baby?"

Jim got the children settled in their seats again, and gave them their food to eat.

Then he turned to Nicole and smiled at her.

"Are you okay, honey?" he asked thinking she looked a little uncomfortable aside from being hungry.

Jim frowned.

"Well, try to eat something, and see how that does.  If it still hurts after a while, I'll see about getting you something for pain.  Hopefully it goes away before too long."

He reached out and brushed some of her hair off of her face where he kissed her.

 

Lacey ate her food while looking over at Olivia.

Jim frowned at how the girls ate, but knew that they couldn't help it.  They had not eaten much before now because of being on the run, but he hoped that they didn't get sick from eating too fast.

He decided to get in back, help Olivia over to his lap, and then he helped her slow down a little bit.  Nicole was a grown woman, so he figured she could take care of herself, but the children might need someone to help them.  Especially Olivia.  for some reason, even though Lacey was younger, he started to look at Olivia as though she was the little girl of the two, and treated her more like a baby than he did Lacey.
