It had been an eventful couple of days at the house. James was out of town for a case and made it back just in time for his 2yr old son Tommy’s birthday party and grace was about to start preschool at a special preschool for gifted students. She had just turned 4 but was already pretty advanced for her age.

Its the middle of the night going into Sunday. Haileys parents had invited them over for the day to hang out at the pool and bbq today since it was the end of summer and grace started preschool tomorrow on Monday.

As a surprise for his birthday James and Hailey had gotten tommy a big boy bed that was shaped like a race car since he loved cars thinking he would like it. He was scared like most things tend to do to him but after a while they got him to sleep in it. He tossed and turned in his sleep having a bad dream and not having the comfort and protection of his crib wasn’t helping. He’s eyes were closed and he pulls his blanket over his head and started to cry with what started as a whimper and than got louder and louder through the House.

he put his thumb in his mouth to help but still cried pretty loud

Hailey was 32 years  Of and lover her kids dearly and of course her husband. She thought that tommy would sleep in his bed since it was a cat bed. She knew he might not because it took him awhile to even get out of his parents room. Hailey got up after hearing Timmy to go check on him.  

“‘Hey pumpkin come here “ Hailey says picking him up and comforting him. “ what’s wrong “ she asks cuddle him. 

Grace stayed asleep in her princess bed sucking her thumb that’s one thing James and Hailey couldn’t make her stop.

Tommy tried to explain and tell her but he was too upset and was breathing heavy. He buried his head in Hailey’s shoulder and wrapped his arms around her neck. Calming down a little but holding on tight afraid to let go and be put back in the scary bed again. “No likey...” he was barely able to whimper out. Tommy was a bit needy at times and freaked out easily. James had lost count and how many movies they’ve walked out of early or shows they had to be changed because of tommy. 

James stayed asleep tired from the busy week and was thankful for his strong and amazing wife that was able to handle both of the kids needs.

Hailey rocked tommy. She found his favorite blanket and gave him his pacifier. 

She walked around the house  with him trying to calm him down and humming his favorite nursery rhyme.

The pacifier and blanket helped with the crying as he sucked on the pacifier and snuggled close with his blanket.

Hearing twinkle twinkle was always what helped put him to sleep even on the worst days. His eyes were getting heavy but he still didn’t want to be alone tonight or really ever again. He missed his crib and didn’t understand why it was taken away. He looked up at Hailey with his big green eyes “mama bed peeese” as he put the pacifier back in his mouth and nuzzled his head in her chest as a pillow

Hailey walked tommy to there knowing he liked sleeping in there. She laid on the bed with him patting his back. “ this is better “

hailey cooed and ribbed his back.

He got comfortable almost immediately and slept between his mommy and daddy feeling safe and secure he fell back to sleep almost right away.

James felt a familiar small body between him and thought about how tommy needs to be independent like his sister but also knew he was only 2 and that those things take time. 

When the morning came he did his usual Sunday tradition of making breakfast. He was always busy with work that he had promised Hailey that he would at least always make sure to make breakfast on Sunday mornings. Since it was all about tommy yesterday he decided to make Grace’s favorites for breakfast today

Hailey cuddled up with tommy through the night. She wanted tommy to be more independent but he was her baby so it was fine.  

Grace got up and got herself dressed for the day for four years old she kept everything neat and tidy. She walked down the stairs.  “ good morning daddy “

James smiled hearing her voice and turned around “well good morning princess” he was impressed by how smart and newt she was for someone only 4 knowing that putting her in an advanced preschool is definetly a good idea.

James picked her up and kissed her forehead “how did you sleep sweetie? Look what I’m making for breakfast. All your favorites”

tommy stayed asleep tired from the day and restless night and curled up closer to Hailey

Grace smiled she loved French toast it as her favorite. “ yea are e still going to nanny pool today “ grace asked clearly excited.

“Yes we are princess we are going to stop by the store and get you a few things for your first day of preschool than we’ll go see nanny and grandpa.” James poured juice and started to set the table while letting grace chew a piece of bacon.

tommy started to wake up to the smell of food and yawned and stretched. He started to nudge Hailey to wake up too “mama”

Hailey woke up and kissed tommy face. “ morning baby ready to go eat breakfast” Hailey say. 

Grace starts to eat on the bacon showings it slowly. “ I’m thirsty “

He found his pacifier and sucked on it and his blanket as he doesn’t go anywhere without it and held his arms up to be carried. He couldn’t get off his parents bed alone because he thinks it’s too high.

james poured orange juice into grace’s princess cup “now what do you say when you want something?” He said to her waiting for the response before he handed it to her.

Hailey picked him up and carried him downstairs to eat breakfast. She sat him in his high chair. “ tommy had a rough night in his new bed “ Hailey told James. 

“ please can I have some juice” graces said again.

“Yea I noticed, I thought it would excite him to have a race car bed but I guess it will take some time.” James sighed loving his son but sometimes didn’t understand why he wasn’t like his sister.

James smiled “very good sweetie” and handed grace her juice and placed her breakfast in front of her at the table. Tommy looked over and saw what his sister was eating and held his arms out trying to grab her food from his high chair and kicked his dangling feet frustrated

“ well he’s still a baby so he will have to get use it “ Hailey says she goes and cuts up some fruit for tommy and bacon she then sets it in his tray. 

Grace never got along with tommy because they always had to leave when they went somewhere. Plus he always cried.

Tommy happily reached and began to eat. He used his hands and chewed loudly as he held his fruit and bacon and enjoyed his breakfast while playing on his tray. He wanted to be just like his big sister and looked up to her. James at his breakfast and smiled at his soon. He could be a handful at times but loved seeing his little man happy.

james sat down and ate with the family while holding haileys hand “what time are we supposed to be at your parents? I figured we could run by the store on our way there so grace can get what she needs for preschool tomorrow” as he continued to eat his breakfast.

Hailey sat down and drank a cup of coffee at the table. “ were suppose to be there before lunch okay sounds like a good idea. I can’t believe she going to preschool tomorrow. She was really good in daycare” Hailey said.

James smiles and kissed his wife quickly “I mean she definitely got her brains from you, she’s growing up fast” as they ate breakfast as a family and James’s looked at the time “ok grace go pack your swimsuit and grab what you want to bring with you to nana’s”

tommy is done eating as well as he lets out a loud burp and sucks his thumb waiting to be taken out of his hhigh chair 

james turns to Hailey “what would you rather do clean up the kitchen or clean up this little man” he joked

“ I’ll clean up the little man there “ Hailey said going to get tommy. She brought him upstairs and looked for his outfit. 

Grace got down and did what she was told.

Tommy felt better. He was awake and fed. He sucked his thumb and pointed to his favorite shirt that he asks to wear every day “onky onky” as he pointed to his monkey shirt and giggled 

James cleaned up the kitchen and got everything packed that the kids would need for a day at the pool with Haileys parents

“ not today tommy “ Hailey said and put him in a pair of short and a blue shirt. “ there you go now go play while I get you bag together “ Hailey said putting tommy on the floor.

Tommy got up and held his blanket and put a pacifier back in his mouth. He waddled around and saw his sisters door open and taps her arm “sis sis pway!” As he was hoping she would play with one of his new toys he got for his birthday “pwease!!”

Grace hreslly didn’t like having a little brother at all. He always ruined things. 

Grac ealways new how to make tommy leave her alone.she would show scare. So grace hid some one where and jumped out and scared him. “ boo” she said during laughing.

Tommy was looking around for his sister when grace popped out and scared him. he screamed terrified and ran out of the room crying and looking for Hailey. As he ran off he trips and falls making things worse as lays there on the floor screaming and crying like neve before at the top of his lungs. His face beating red with tears streaming 

James was outside putting the cooler in the car having no idea about what was happening inside with the kids
