Carter heard the exchange and felt a little embarrassed.

When Sharon saw that Carter was awake, she sat on his bed and pulled him into her lap. She gently squeezed his pull-up and realized he was wet.

Carter pressed his legs together, knowing Sharon was checking his pull-up and trying to keep her from feeling it.

Sharon smoothed Carter's bangs back from his forehead. "It's okay, honey. It happened while you were sleeping. You pottied before your nap like I asked you to, and that's all you can do."

Carter snuggled against Sharon, cozy in her arms with his warm pull-up pressed against him.

Sharon cuddled both boys until they woke up a little bit, then removed Carter's wet pull-up, wiped him down with a wet wipe, and helped him into his underwear and shorts from before. Once James was also dressed again, she took them to the kitchen for juice and a snack. "Remember, Carter, I'm not going to make you go to the potty anymore. I trust you to go by yourself before you wet your pants. But, if you do go in your pants, then I'm going to start taking you every thirty minutes again."

Carter nodded, starting to come around on the idea of using the potty by himself again.

When Anna came to get Carter later that afternoon, she was pleased to find him in the same clothes he'd been wearing that morning. "Good job, buddy! No accidents today?"

"Just one during his nap," Sharon reported.

Carter beamed.

Anna picked Carter up and kissed his forehead. "Thanks, Sharon. Let's hope this keeps up. No more pee-peeing in your pants, hmm?"

Carter didn't say anything.

Anna gathered Carter's things. "We're going to my parents' lake house this weekend, do you guys want to come over on Saturday?"

"That sounds fun," Sharon agreed. "We haven't been able to take James yet."

James woke up on Saturday morning, excited about going to the lake.

Sharon went into his room when she heard him up and about. "Hey, sweetheart." She picked him up and checked his diaper. "You're still dry! Come on, let's go potty. I bet you have to pee-pee."

"Nooooo!" James moaned.

[Carrie96]

"Yes, honey. We always go potty when we wake up. Even when you're wearing a diaper, you need to try really hard to stay dry." Sharon hurried him toward the bathroom, despite him not yet complaining about having to go potty. After staying dry all night, she knew he probably had to go, whether he was awake enough to realize it or not.

James's eyes shot open when he realized how badly he needed to go.

"It's okay, honey. You were a big boy for holding it for so long." It wasn't the first time James had peed on her, whether in the bathroom or otherwise, and she knew it wouldn't be the last. "Let's go eat breakfast."

Soon after breakfast, Paul got James dressed while Sharon packed a bag for the day. It only took about half an hour to get to the lake, but he wasn't sure what to put on James.

Sharon finished getting everything together and found Paul and James. "Ready to go?"

"Let's go!" James exclaimed.

Sharon raised an eyebrow. "Did you go potty?"

"I tried," James answered honestly.

"He did try," Paul confirmed.

[Carrie96]

"All right, let's go." Sharon buckled James into his car seat while Paul loaded the car. "Tell us if you need to pee-pee," she reminded him. "You're going to get all yucky if you go potty in your pants."

Paul got in the car and drove off.

James looked out the window as they drove, and just when he was about to start whining about being bored, his daddy announced that they were at the lake.
