James's eyes suddenly widened.

Caroline quickened her pace. "Okay, honey. Let's get Nana's big boy to the potty."

"I hold it," James assured her.

[Carrie96]

"Look at my big boy!" Caroline cooed. She cleaned him up and put a clean pull-up on him before putting his pajamas back on.

James started coughing and reached for Caroline to pick him up.

[Carrie96]

Caroline gathered him in her arms and patted his back. "Let's go get some medicine." She took him to the kitchen and sat him on the counter while she got him some juice and fed him the medicine. "Hmm, you feel a little warmer," Caroline noted, after feeling James's forehead. "Nana needs to check your temperature."

Sharon got up and came over to James while Caroline found the thermometer. She put her hands on his flushed cheeks and pressed her lips to his forehead. "Oh, sweetie, your temperature did go up a little bit."

James shivered and held his arms up for Sharon.

Sharon picked him up and held him close to her while Caroline gently placed the thermometer in his ear. "102.2. Not bad."

James nodded and reached for Caroline.

"Let's go read for a little bit," she suggested as she took James from Sharon.

James nodded and reached for his juice cup.

Sharon refilled his cup and gave it back to him. "Tell Nana when you have to potty again, okay?"

Caroline took him back to the living room so he could pick out a book.

"Movie?" James requested after the first book.

[Carrie96]

"Sure, honey." Caroline found one for him and rocked as they watched it.

James snuggled into his grandmother as he watched.

[Carrie96]

Caroline noticed and didn't even ask if he had to go. "Come on, sweetheart, let's go potty." She took him to the bathroom, helped him pee-pee, and cleaned him up. "See how fast that was? And now you're more comfortable since you don't have to pee-pee anymore, and you kept your pull-up dry like a big boy."

Paul came home from work a little while later.

"I was actually planning to cook. I know James doesn't have much of an appetite now, but once he's feeling better, I bet he'll appreciate having some of Nana's spaghetti in the refrigerator!"

James nodded excitedly.

[Carrie96]

"He went not too long ago, but he's been drinking a lot of juice," Caroline told him before she went to start dinner.

The next morning, James felt a lot better when he woke up, but he still didn't feel too good. He was disappointed when he realized his diaper was already wet.

Paul woke up when he heard James stirring.

Sharon came into the kitchen several minutes later. "Hi, my baby boy." She brushed James's bangs back and held her hand to his forehead. "You seem to be feeling better!"

James nodded and picked at his breakfast.

A little while later, Paul kissed Sharon and James and left for work.
