Learning To Use The Potty (private for Carrie96 and me)

James nodded and snuggled back into Sharon's shoulder.

Sharon carried James to his room and laid him on his changing table. She gently removed his wet pull-up, wiped him down with a wet wipe, and put a dry pull-up on him. "Do you need to go potty?"

James shook his head and shivered as he lay on Sharon's shoulder, not even thinking about whether he needed to go.

"Well, let's go try, okay?" Sharon carried James to the bathroom, pulled his pull-up down, and sat him on the toilet.

"I want a diaper," James pouted as he was seated on the cold toilet.

[Carrie96]

"Oh, sweetie. You've been doing so good with using the potty. I know you're going to have some accidents because you're tired and don't feel good, but you'll still be able to make it to the potty some, too. Just make sure you tell Mommy when you need to go, and, if you don't make it, I'll change you as soon as you wet so you won't be uncomfortable. Now, try to make tinkles so we can go cuddle up and read, okay?"

Still pouting, James concentrated and let a small stream into the toilet.

"Good job." Sharon got James's pull-up back on him, washed his hands, and took him to his play room so he could pick out some books.

James selected a few and held his arms up for Sharon to pick him up again.

Sharon settled James in one arm and his books in the other. "Do you want to stay in here, or go rock?"

"Rock."

[Carrie96]

"Okay, sweetheart." Sharon carried James to the living room, sat in the rocking chair, and tucked the blanket around him. "Are you warm enough?"

James nodded and curled up against Sharon as she started reading to him.

A few books later, it was lunchtime. Sharon warmed up some soup for the two of them and helped James eat as she ate her own lunch.

James ate half of his soup before he started whining and wanting out of his booster seat.

"Just a minute, honey." Sharon quickly finished her soup and lifted James out of his booster seat. She cradled him in her lap and held her hand to his forehead. "Your temperature went up a little bit. It's time for more medicine." Sharon quickly gave him some medicine and refilled his cup of juice once he'd washed it down. They went back to the living room, and Sharon found another movie for James and rocked him as they watched it.

Halfway into the movie, James started feeling sleepy again.

"Hold on, sweetie, let's go try to potty and put a diaper on. Is your pull-up still dry?"

James nodded, knowing he hadn't pee-peed in it.

Sharon picked up her pace and rushed toward the bathroom. "We're almost there. Try to hold on for just a minute."

James bounced against Sharon's hip when he felt a little bit come out.

"Here we are." Sharon hurriedly pulled James's pajama pants and pull-up down and helped him onto the toilet.

They'd gotten to the potty just in time.

[Carrie96]

"You sure did, precious boy." Sharon dropped his slightly damp pull-up into the trash and got James cleaned up and into a diaper. "Ready for that nap?"

James nodded and rubbed his eyes before lying down on Sharon's shoulder.
