justagirl4fun
It was a crisp, clear, mid-December morning and 28-year-old Sean Byrne and his wife, Lillian, were in the middle of a Christmas tree farm trying to find the perfect evergreen to grace their cozy little living room for the holiday season. Two-year-old Scarlett and four-year-old Ava were chasing each other up and down the rows of trees, clad in matching red plaid snowsuits and faux fur lined knit hats with bear ears. Sean looked at Lillian - his high school sweetheart, who he had wed immediately after college - and grinned. "Could they be any cuter?" he asked his wife, loving their rosy cheeks and eyes bright with excitement, before pointing to a tree. "So, how about this one?" Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
Ava squealed and picked up a mitten full of snow and squished it, attempting to make a snowball. She giggled and threw it at her sister, though most of the snow fell before getting close. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
Scarlett wiggled and kicked. "Down! Down!" she squealed. Sean grabbed the saw and got to work cutting the tree. Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
Lil set the girls down so they were sitting in the snow, a good distance from the tree. "Stay here girls. Daddy has to chop down the tree and then we'll take it home." "Can I put the star on mommy?!" Ava asked excitedly. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
"No! Me 'tar!" Scarlett argued before tossing a handful of snow at Ava, although she had no clue what her sister was talking about. Having been only 13 months old the previous Christmas she had no memories of it, but she wanted to do anything and everything her big sister did. Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
"You're too little." Ava said tossing snow back at her sister. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
"I not widdle!" Scarlett protested before being distracted by a rabbit dashing through the snow. "Oh! Buhbuh!" she squealed, her face lighting up as she bounced a bit. "Buhbuh hop hop hop!" Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
Ava bit her tongue rather than reply with 'are too'. She picked up a twig and started drawing in the snow. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
Scarlett played bunny for a few more minutes, then stopped suddenly and ran back to her mother. "Mama, go potty!" she whimpered as She danced in place. She had been potty training for about a week, with great success, but Lillian had insisted she wear a diaper that morning knowing there would be no bathroom in sight and her little two-year-old bladder was unlikely to hold out until they got back into town. Shy-Diapers
"Okay baby try and hold it." Lillian encouraged, wanting her to hold it rather than just let go. "We'll be going back home soon." She smiled. "We're doing good!" She called before grabbing the girls and heading to the car after helping Sean with getting the tree on the sled. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
Scarlett stuck her tongue out in concentration as she tried to hold it. As they approached the car she ran around to her side, only to slip on a small patch of ice and land flat on her back. At first she was silent, the fall having knocked the wind out of her, but once she caught her breath she let out a mighty wail. Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
"Oh dear!" Lillian said, running over and scooping Scarlette up. She removed her hat and hood, making sure she didn't hurt herself too much. She rocked and bounced the toddler, shushing her and trying to calm her down. "It's okay baby." Link to comment
justagirl4fun
Scarlett wailed into Lillian's shoulder, but calmed down after a few minutes. "With all that padding it couldn't have hurt too much," Sean said as he stroked his baby's wispy white-blonde curls and kissed her forehead. "She probably got startled more than anything else. You still wanna get lunch before we go home?" Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
"If she calms down. I'll probably need to change her then anyway." Lillian said rocking her baby back and forth, trying to calm her down. She shushed softly into her ear and bounced her a bit, hoping she'd calm down or go to sleep. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
It took a few minutes but Scarlett eventually stopped crying. Meanwhile Sean got in the car and started warming it up. Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
Lillian sighed with relief and carefully placed Scarlett into her car seat and quickly got up front. She looked back at her girls and buckled herself in. "Maybe she'll fall asleep." Link to comment
justagirl4fun
"Mama, nuk?" Scarlett asked, wanting her pacifier, before ripping a mitten off and shoving her fingers in her mouth. Sean pulled out of the parking lot and began the 45-minute drive back towards their little town. He found a radio station playing Christmas music, knowing the girls liked it. Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
Lillian shoved her hand down the diaper bag and dug around until she found a pacifier for the girl. She reached her arm around the seat and handed it to Scarlett, unable to reach her mouth completely. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
"Ava, inside voice," Sean gently reminded his older daughter. Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
"Sorry daddy!" Ava said, only slightly quieter. She sang along to the carols and attempted to do the same for the ones she didn't really know, but pretended to. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
Sean chuckled at Ava's version of the carols as he drove along. After an uneventful drive they arrived at Panera, a restaurant they frequented. Ava had her favorites, and Scarlett, ever the adventurous eater, was always up for trying whatever soup and sandwiches he and Lillian got. He pulled into the parking lot and got out, then helped Ava get unbuckled. "What are you in the mood for, kiddo?" he asked as they headed for the building holding hands. Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
"Grilled cheese and chicken noodle!" Ava said happily as she skipped inside. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
It was a busy Saturday in the restaurant, as all the shoppers paused for lunch, but they got to the front of the line in about 10 minutes. By the time they were ordering Scarlett woke up. She could tell her diaper was wet and she wasn't too happy about it. Link to comment
Shy-Diapers
Lillian quickly ordered her favorite salad before heading to change Scarlett. "Let's get you changed honey." She said smiling as she laid the girl on the changing table and quickly wiped her up before putting her into a pull-up. Link to comment
justagirl4fun
Scarlett pouted as Lillian changed her. "No go peepee in diapee," she scolded herself. "Go peepee in potty! Scarlett big girl." Sean and Lillian were pretty laid back with potty training and hadn't planned on starting until after the holidays, but Scarlett wanted to be just like her big sister, and since Ava used the potty, she wanted to as well. Sean grabbed their food and found a table. He helped Ava get her coat and hat off and slid her into the booth before sitting down next to her. "Here you go. Eat your sandwich and let your soup cool a little, okay?" Link to comment
