Mike smiled and put her on her little tot bed, and then he brought out her favorite book.

"Tonight, since you are trying so hard to be good and let your new sisters be comfortable in sleeping, we're going to read YOUR favorite book, okay?"

He sat on her bed next to her.

"You two get comfortable," he looked at Cassie and Kelly.

"I always sleep on top anyways," Kelly assured Cassie, not wanting the girl to think she might be put out by the sleeping arrangements.

Heidi didn't care one way or another.

Emma, who had been watching from the doorway, sat down and pulled Cassie onto her lap.

Cassie squealed and then giggled.

She laid her head on Emma's shoulder, and then Kim got jealous and started to walk over as if wanting to share Mike's lap, but Heidi grabbed her from around the waist and pulled her into her own lap.

"Come on, Kim.

"Sweetheart, it's okay," Emma assured Kim. "You can sit on daddy's lap if you want to, or mine. There's plenty of room for you." She smiled warmly at the girl and hoped Heidi would let her sit with one of them if she chose.

Heidi looked over at Emma.

"I thought... I thought Kim and I..., everyone says we're too old to be jealous of wanting parents who would hold us and rock us, and that we are not babies, so I didn't want Kim to get made fun of."

Then she looked directly at Kelly expecting Kelly to think Kim was being really immature since Kelly wasn't sitting on anyone's lap.

"What are you looking at me for?" Kelly yelped defensively. "I didn't even say anything! You can sit wherever you want!"

[Ishigreensa]

"I'm sorry, you're right.

[justagirl4fun]

"Girls, you're never too old for hugs. You're welcome to all the hugs you want."

[Ishigreensa]

Heidi looked at her for a minute and then down at her own lap.

"Heidi, you can come sit next to me," Emma offered, noting the girl's longing glances. "Ordinarily you could sit with daddy too, but I'm not sure

[Ishigreensa]

Heidi laughed nervously and looked back up at Kelly, almost scared the little girl wouldn't understand and want to make fun of her.

"Honey, I don't think Kelly minds," Emma said as she watched the girl looking at her older daughter. Truth be told, she wasn't really sure what the 7-year-old was thinking, but she didn't seem particularly bothered at the moment.

"Oh, I am not scared of her minding.

[justagirl4fun]

"No, everybody hugs," Kelly said matter-of-factly. "Sometimes mommy and daddy even hug each other," she added with a giggle. "And they're definitely not babies."

[Ishigreensa]

Heidi looked up at her.

"But you aren't cuddling with everyone.

[justagirl4fun]

"I don't know. 'Cause Erylin always sits with daddy when he reads, I guess. And mommy's usually doing something else when he's reading to us."

[Ishigreensa]

Heidi suddenly got sad for her and reached up to her.

"Then, will you sit in my lap and keep ME company?

[justagirl4fun]

Kelly sighed. She was pretty comfortable where she was, and didn't feel like she was missing out on anything, but figured her parents would be mad if she upset Heidi on her first night. Reluctantly she climbed down and sat with Heidi.

Heidi felt better now, sitting next to Emma and holding Kelly like she was her little sister.

"Yes, I think so." It was a bit earlier than Kelly's normal bedtime, but it had been a crazy afternoon so Emma figured everyone could use a good night's sleep. She moved Kim

[Ishigreensa]

Heidi looked down as the woman had ordered them down to their own room.

(wait, I'm confused. If Kelly was sitting with Heidi, and Kim and Cassie were sitting with Emma, how did Kelly's pajamas get wet?)

(Heidi peed her pants a little bit while they were listening to the story.
