I glanced down at the folder on my desk once more. She might not have been convicted, but the fact that my newest charge had been refused bail was a pretty good indication that the judge expected a conviction. Still, while she was still on remand, there was no need to be too harsh to her. Not unless she stepped out of line.

Kayla sat there nervously shackled from the waist down. No one would believe her but she truly was innocent but NO one would listen to her..

Kayla Green the officer called her name and she was escorted into another room she was so scared. How could this happen to me! She thought to herself..

It wasn't uncommon for prisoners to be nervous on their first day in lockup - particularly this facility, we had a reputation for being tough - but this new girl seemed utterly terrified. She was visibly shaking, as she shuffled into the room, the heavy fetters making it impossible for her to lift her feet from the floor.

"Stand with your toes on the white line, Prisoner Green", I instructed.

Kayla stood there shaking like a leaf this was worse then being in the principal's office that time she got caught skipping school or the time she got in trouble for talking but now she was in jail! Standing in a line in front of a guard, she was scared petrified as she knew she was innocent..

"Sir I'm innocent I was blamed for robbing a store." she said softly as this was a whole new experience to her!

As I had expected, Kyla's response wasn't entirely accurate. According to her file, she'd been an accessory in a violent armed robbery that had resulted in the death of the victim. She may not have realised it yet, but she was in serious trouble.

"Are you sure you're telling me everything, Miss Green?"

"Yes I am!" she whined. In her defense she didn't realty remember that night her and her girlfriends had been partying and unknown to her she was slipped some acid so she truly thought she was innocent but now she was in jail and everyone the lawyers and officers treated her like she was guilty..

"You believe me right?" she asked trying to turn on her charm..

"You have yet to be convicted, so

"B-but I don't remember anything!" she said starting to cry as she was already on the verge of a breakdown.

"Uh No I'm not sure." she said nervously.

The Governor paused for a moment, contemplating how to break the news. The girl was already a wreck. This would make her worse, but as no one else had told her, it seemed only fair to break the news.

"I'm afraid, if convicted, you'll face the death penalty."

"W--What No this can't be happening!" she was so scared on the news she fainted on the spot.

While Kyla's reaction was extreme, it didn't come as a surprise. Older, tougher prisoners had reacted in similar ways before.

The Governor walked around his desk, and examined the unconscious girl. She certainly looked sweet and innocent, but years in charge of a prison had taught him that looks counted for very little.

"W--what?" Kayla said as the Governor shook her.. She squinted as she was seeing double she was trying to figure out what happened. She rubbed her head.

"What happened?"

"You feinted". The Governor explained, lifting Kyla up from the floor.

"Do you remember what I told you before you did?"

'Um No what?" she asked nervously then she noticed something she was wet!

"What the hell!" she shrieked

The Governor led her over to a chair, and sat her down.

"Before you feinted, I gave you some bad news. I warned you that if you were convicted, you would likely be sentenced to death."

He paused, as the colour once more drained from Kyla's face.

"Now, it may not come to that, and even if it does, there are a lot of appeals you can go through."

He made sure to retain eye contact with Kyla as he spoke.

"When I told you that, you collapsed, and you seem to have wet yourself".

He let her absorb the words, before continuing.

"Now, you're going to sit here for me, while I arrange for someone to help you get cleaned up."

Kayla sat down and listened as he explained everything that happened. She began crying when she realized she might be put to death! Then she turned red with embarrassment realizing she had an accident.

"Can't I just go to the bathroom and get changed, I really don't need anyone's help!" she begged and whined as she was an adult not a baby! She thought to herself..

"I'm afraid not," the Governor explained, with a genuine hint of sadness for the girl. "Unfortunately, we need to make sure you are properly looked after, and from past experience, we know some inmates aren't capable of looking after themselves."

Once again, he helped Kayla to her feet.

Kayla sat there just wanting to go to the bathroom and get changed but she was quickly realizing she had no freedom anymore! She stood up as the Governor grabbed her arm. She nodded and made sure her feet were on the line. Then she got nervous as she called for a guard she was really embarrassed when the Governor mentioned her accident.

She started to cry to herself as she was scared and humiliated!

The Guard took Kayla by the arm and led her out of the Governor's office. She said nothing, as she led Kayla through the corridors of the prison.

Kayla was scared and nervous she kept her head down as the guard lead her to the nurses office. She was shocked and surprised when the door opened and they entered the jail where all the inmates were.. They yelled at her about her wetting herself calling her a baby, she even herd some yell that they would be her mommy. She kept her head down ready to cry. She was relieved when they entered the nurses office it was a younger good looking guy.

She felt like a toddler standing there as the guard said she had wet herself, she was so mad as they talked about her like she wasn't even there. She sttod there as the guard took her shackles off.

Kayla just wanted to go to the bathroom to have some privacy but she found out that wasn't happening.. As she began to undress.

"No this was a one time thing, I don't know what happened!" she said defensively

There was something about Kayla's reply that didn't quite ring true.

The nurse thought about it, as he gestured toward an examination table, with a waterproof pad on top.

"Could you lie on there with your knees up and your legs spread apart for me please, Miss Green".

As Kayla followed the instruction, the nurse decided to give Kayla a second chance to come clean,

"Miss Green, I appreciate this is a little embarrassing, but I need you to be honest with me. If you have a history of potty accidents, you can tell me now, and we can put measures in place to deal with them, and there won't be any reprecussions if you have another accident.

"If you don't tell me that you're able to control yourself, and you have another accident, I'll have to report to the governor that you've been lying to me, and you will be punished severely for lying to a member of staff.

"Now, I'll ask you again, Miss Green, was this just a one time thing, or do you have a history of having potty accidents?"

Kayla laid down like she was told too. She didn't know what to do or say, why won't he believe me she thought.

"How many tucking times do I have to tell you it was a one time thing!" she said getting mad!

She wondered what he meant by punishment..
