Smelly Plastic Pants

I recently got some cloth diapers (I've been a disposables guy but wanted something I could throw on after work when I wanted to wear but not actually use them) and ultra-flex pants from Fetware. Last week while my wife was out of town I gave using the cloth diapers a shot (if it wasn't for the extra clean up effort I might actually switch!).

Two of the 3 pants now have a horrible smell to them even after I hand washed them a few times. Any suggestions on how to make them not smell so bad? Is the soap I'm using maybe not aggressive enough? Should I be letting them soak longer than the 5 minutes the bottle suggests (I left them soaking for 30 this morning but I think I can still smell it)?

Any help is appreciated.

Arm & Hammer is your friend, dump half a box in a pail with water and let them soak a half hour. See if that helps.

I've read using "White vinegar" when washing cloth diapers helps with smells. I've used it too.

Maybe spritz some air freshener in them before washing? If my pants start to smell I throw them out. I hate cleaning and only clean up after poopy diapers because of the smell anyway. Throw them out and let them be the garbage man's problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. They are soaking with baking powder now. I'll try vinegar if that doesn't work.

These are less than a month old and I've only worn them a few times now.

I do wash mine ASAP, but after they are clean I find 30 min soak in water with baby shampoo works wonders. It also helps if you use an antibacterial soap when you clean them. Don't forget the leg and waist bands.
