This is not an exclusively cloth diaper issue since wetproof panties were often used over disposable diapers. Also there were some attempts to use panties that were made of fabrics

Does anyone remember this company? That made waterproof panties about 26 years ago . The material they used was a frosted clear that was grainy on one side and smooth on the other There also used to be Nuvogue. They were made of thin clear material and they tore easily where they were joined at the elastics. The were sold by Tom's Plastic Pnats which had VERY slow service They were both mentioned in the DPF/NL

I got up this morning and changed my wet diaper. I decided that for today to put on a night-time cloth diaper and some flannel lined plastic panties. Onesie on over that. Now I have the diaper waddle so bad, I can feel it when I'm walking! Loving it!

As time goes by (that would be a wonderful song title) and your baby panties age, the "new" smell" goes away and what replaces it is anything from nothing to icky Well have no fear. 45-55 years ago, many new baby panties had a smell like baby lotion when they were new. Now you can have that smell, too, Plastic picks up odors and they are hard to get off the material so that means they will stay. Since my diapers are washed about every two weeks that means my snap on panties are sitting around after being rinsed. While drying they are sprayed on the inside with a strong mix or Rite-Aid baby lotion and water then let to dry and put in a closed container. A day or so before my diapers get washed, these panties are put in a big container of a mixture of Rite-Aid baby lotion and water and let to soak. Then they are laid over a drying rack placed in the tub to dry. When my diapers afe folded and put on the shelves in my room the panties are put over them. After awhile, the small should become part of the material itself: Baby Heaven! (Gee: that would be a lively name for a product line)

So you've decided that it's time to order those plastic panties you've been wanting to buy. But keep in mind that you may very well need two different sizes- one for daytime use and another for sleeping in. Why? Well, if you are like most cloth diaper users, you use a thicker bulkier diaper, or double diaper for sleeping in, compared to your daytime diaper. So doesn't it make sense that you may need plastic panties for sleeping that are a size larger than those you find are adequate for daytime use over cloth or disposable diapers? I find that a size larger for overnight works out just right for me. In fact, I go a step futher and use a plastic panty at night that has about an extra inch or two rise in the waist. Without the so-called hi-rise plastic panties, I find that the diaper can work its way above the waist elastic of the panties, thus leading to the inevidable leak and a wet bed. Another suggestion from one who has learned from a wet experience or two.
