  1. Thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to a picture of the stent. Can you (or anyone else with that knowledge) mark some of the features on the ultrasound? I have no idea what I'm supposed to see where in the picture 🙈
  2. Hi @petropol I haven't read this before and also have not tried it myself. Unfortunately, I doubt it would work very good, as the diameter of urethra, that is held open, is very small and therefore would not lead to good voiding, probably just a bit of dripping when the pressure in the bladder is high. Secondly, the two catheters will probably cause a bit of discomfort when they move around each other, as there is no way of keeping lubricant there. But, there is no way to be sure, maybe I'm too pessimistic, I would like to hear from your experience
  3. Well, the inside of your diaper is by far no sterile environment. This is why just inserting a catheter and letting it drain into a diaper is generally not a good idea. A holey foley should be closed at the end and therefore be a bit safer as in there is no open direct path into your bladder, but it still bears some risks.
  4. @and4420 I got a tip from @boyhood on how to roll over the ends: insert a screw with a large enough diameter in to the tube so it takes the material with it and rolls it over. Then turn the screw to remove it without pulling the rolled end out again. Repeat if necessary. This is almost foolproof and takes no more than 1 minute per side for me.
  5. I read a few of the studies regarding the spanner and the results were promising, but not really great. Just from the back of my head: quite a few of the test subject had to get the spanner removed surgically because it migrated or could not be removed with the removal mechanism. Also there were discomfort and UTIs, all in all it did not look much better than homemade stents. Combined with the costs and difficulty to find a urologist who would do such a procedure without indication, building your own seems like a better solution to me. A spanner is not the solution to all problems.
  6. You have to build it yourself, you cannot buy them in a shop. Most of the guys use silicone tubes and rubber o-rings for their design, then it is just fiddling with the dimensions until it fits right.
  7. It's .4mm solid fishing line, the next will be .2mm braided fishing line, which still can handle more force. It felt like it wasn't sitting quite perfect and the length between the bents was a bit too short. I'll try to make it maybe .5cm longer
  8. After a some attempts with a few of the designs I settled on this simple one: (each square is 5mm) And what can I say, it fits perfectly I put it in yesterday evening and had it in for about 24 hours, only removing it because I had to run some errands I could not attend diapered. My plans now are to make a new one with about the same dimension, maybe a tiny bit longer. The hole on the inner side (the one in the bladder) seems to help with voiding while laying down and when sitting. Even when driving my car, where I always had trouble to let go, it just dribbles and wets the diaper. I really like that feeling. I will exchange the solid fishing line to a braided one, because it was the one thing which irritated a bit. Also note, that I have no knots or other things protruding from the stent. Everything in the urethra is totally smooth and I almost don't feel it. If you have any questions or suggestion, I'm happy to respond or incorporate them Thanks for everyone on this thread for inspiring me.
  9. Hey @finu your design partially simulates a "malecot" catheter and looks interesting. I wonder: what makes it different to the other designs to make it work while laying down. This question isn't directed at you personally, I'm just thinking about that. Does the "baking" sufficiently smooth the edges on the cut, i.e. the inner side or do you smooth them with other methods? I would think that inserting this is a difficult process and very risky when there are still some sharp edges... Afaik, the aquarium tubes are a bit stiffer than silicone tubes which probably helps with keeping your stent in shape, but I would be hesitant to use this for more than a few hours.
  10. Hi qwerty, thank you for the writeup, it does sound very promising How do you handle the retrieval without a line? Do you use a crotchet hook? Did you prepare a small hole or do you hook the folded end? Greetings
  11. Thank you very much, the trick with the screw sounds very promising. I will give it a try after the holidays
  12. Did you still secure the rings with the fishing line or does the teflon tube provide enough "friction" so that it can't fall out. I assume you used 4mm wide teflon tubing. Where are the anchor points for the retrieval line? And did you fold the ends of the silicone tubing over into itself to provide a smooth, round end? Do you have any tips, it's just luck if I ever get it working... Due to the fact that silicone tubing becomes a bit more flexible, when it warms up (reaches body temperature), it could be that your sphincter closes it shut. I think that using a "full length" teflon tube is worth a try, it will significantly reduce the inner diameter though. Maybe bend it a bit with a heater gun before inserting it into the silicone tubing.
  13. Thank you for your post. These are very good instructions, just one question: How do you secure the screw cap on the end of the stent? Do you make a extra knot in the line or does it just slide over and not come lose again?
  14. Hi, what exactly did you write to them? I'm from Germany, maybe they would send me a sample but I'm not quite sure how to ask them for one.
