  1. For me it began with bed-wetting and then I started having "accidents" during the day. It wasn't long before I was wearing diapers 24/7. A damp diaper is much better than an "accident": miles better. I have a back pack which easily takes a couple of spare diapers, wipes, a towel and skin lotion and some plastic bags, if I have to find somewhere to ditch the soiled diaper

Hi Stevec8, you're right about that - wearing a diaper is much better than having an accident.

  2. I often wet my bed, well now I guess I could say I wet my diaper, as I had to resort to using them as I was tired of changing my sheets. There's mornings I wake up and my diaper is sopping wet. I guess it doesn't help that I drink loads of diet Pepsi at night before bed. I had to change to better quality diapers as Depends don't do the job well enough because my diaper would leak and my bed would still get wet. I now am assued I don't leak with the Abenas and a booster pad to go in it. That helps. There's nothing worst than waking up in the middle of the night to wet bed sheets. It reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom got mad at me for wetting the bed. Not a good feeling.

  3. Hey there,

I don't wear diapers for medical needs, but thought I'd share some advice. Don't be ashamed of who you are. As long as we're past the point where you've checked with your doctor and have concluded that there isn't an underlying medical condition here, then I think its safe to start accepting yourself. Don't be embarrassed or feel humiliated about needing protection. Think about it like wearing glasses. I wear glasses because I need them to see. I'm not ashamed of them, since I need them. You wear diapers because you need them. Don't be ashamed of them. While other people don't need glasses or diapers, chances are everyone needs something. Some people have to wear special shoes because their feet hurt, some people can only eat certain things. That's what makes us unique as human beings, we have all sorts of differences. Accept what makes you unique.

That being said, when something happens to you that you can't control, it can often be scary. I'm glad you're talking with doctors to get to the bottom of this, but that being said, there are lots of things doctors just can't explain. Sometimes I've seen cases where it's become necessary to always diagnose or label somebody, even if there isn't anything consistent to label. Just stay positive in the situation, I guess is what it comes down to.

    Good luck!

Thanks Bwakee for your input, much appreciated!

  4. Hey, IwearDepends, I have a story for you...

Some years ago, I was taking SSRIs...which didn't cause me incontinence, but could and did cause retention when starting and a little wetting when stopping taking them, and made it impossible to masturbate to a climax.

Then I split the dose up into four parts during the day....and lo, it was then possible to masturbate to a climax. So you might want to see if the same trick helps you -- for some drugs and some effects, the peaks are what matters.

    Hi Dillpickle,

My medication is actually in the form of an injection so I don't have that option. But thanks anyway!

  5. Hi all,

Well I went to my doc and he prescribed another pill for the incontinence and it did not work and I didn't like the potential side effects such as weight gain. So my doc is going to consult with a urologist about it. Then he may send me to the urologist. However, my doctor is not sure if anything can be done because both my family doc and my psychiatrist believe it is a side effect of one of the med I am taking.

Just thought I would update all of you. I have been wearing 24-7 and it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. Like the previous post from wearer24/7 said that he got used to wearing them.

  6. Hi,

So I went to my doc and told him meds were not working. He told me to double up on them, so we will see if that helps. He also told me to talk to my psychiatrist about the psych med possibly causing the incontinence. So I will do that at the end of the month when I see him next. I really don't want to change my psych meds because they work for me. We'll see what he says.

  7. I hope that everything works out as you wish. It's a shame that we had that embarassment ingrained in us. What's the difference between needing diapers and needing glasses? Please let us all know how your appointment goes in November and remember all the support you get here.

    Aloha,

    Honu

That is a good point Honu about what's the difference between needing to wear diapers and wearing glasses. So true!

  8. Hi all, thanks for the support. I may start drinking caffeine free diet Pepsi, and see how that goes. The incontinence med is still not working. I am starting to accept the fact that I may have to continue to wear diapers. You are right, it is not the end of the world if I have to wear diapers.

Thanks again all for the support. I'll let you know how my appt goes in November with the doc.

  9. Hi babylee75, I haven't talked to my doc yet about the fact that the incontinence meds are not working. I see him Nov 1st. I know I don't want to stop taking the psych med that is likely causing the incontinence. I also go for an ultrasound tomorrow to rule out any other abnormalities. It just really is unfortunate that the psych med I'm taking that works the best for me, causes this problem. Oh we'll, I guess I'll just have to manage it by wearing diapers!

  10. Same here I was told it may be meds combined with pop. But have to take meds for bipolar depression. And ain't going to quite pepsi oh i did change to diet pepsi. Another doc thougjt it was to enlarge prostate and wanted to put me on meds. I refused because I believe the other docs. Oh and I also have high blood pressure witch I hear can also lead to incontinence. The reason pepsi or soda pop can cause incontinence is cafine and high blood sugar. I ain't diabetic but my blood sugar was to high so i drink diet. Also the salt in soda can influnce incontinence by rasing blood pressure. The reason I won't take the incotinence pills is the bad side effects. I felt like I was having a heartattack my left arm was numb for weaks after i stoped taking it and my heart was racing I was dizzy and itched I only took med for 2-3 days. And besides I love diapers so I win. Medicade pays for my diapers

Yeah I really don't want to be on another medication. And I know it has only been 3 days but the incontinence med is not working. I will have to talk to my doctor again. I also not want to change psych meds that I am taking because they work really well for me despite the incontinence problem.

  11. Hi diaperpt thanks for the suggestions! I actually have switched diaper brands. I wear Abenas now which I find are so much better than the depends. I think i need to change my screen name! LOL!

As for getting this incontinence thing checked out, I went to my doctor and he believes it is caused by one of my meds. Apparently it is a frequent side effect of my medication. So he prescribed another med for incontinence but so far it is not working. However it has only been 2 days of taking it. Not sure if it takes a while to work or not. He also told me to stop drinking diet Pepsi. I so am not ready to give that up yet! Lol.

  12. Hi,

I have decided to purchase a larger purse, so I am able to carry an extra diaper or 2 in the purse with some wipes. So thanks for the suggestions on what to do about going to the washroom at work. To answer your questions, 2sail2 I have not tried any of the tena pads or other IC pads. I know that I need to wear a diaper during the day and not just a pad, because I tend to have a heavy incontinence problem.

Thanks again for the suggestions! :)

  13. Hi Babylee75 you're right, it is much more embarrassing wetting my pants than wearing a diaper. I got the Abenas and they work really well. The one thing about wearing one is finding ways to be discreet about changing it. I work in a small office, and I haven't yet mastered the best way to bring the diaper in the washroom with me. I have brought my carry on case with me or sometimes I'll put it in a plastic bag. Any suggestions as to the best way to change at work?

  14. I just received my order of Abena M4's yesterday and have tried it out for the first time. Wow - they are much better than the depends I was used to wearing. The diaper did not leak last night when I was in bed, and I did not have to worry about wetting my pants today, I felt less self-conscious of my diaper leaking. I will definitely continue to order the Abenas!

  15. Thanks I will check into the disposable under pads. Also, you are probably right about being up front with her. I've known her to be very understanding and nice. I consider her a good friend. So I may just end up telling her - it would likely take a lot of weight off my shoulders.

    Thanks for the advice! :)

  16. Hi,

My main problem is bed-wetting, and I have accepted the fact that I need to wear a diaper at night for this purpose. However, just recently I have been having problems wetting my pants during the day. As a result, I have wet my couch, and have of course wet my clothes, and feel humiliated when it happens. I do not typically wear a diaper during the day unless I am going for a long walk where there is no bathroom facilities, or when going a long trip. However, I am starting to wonder if I should wear a diaper during the day - 24 hours a day. Just the thought of it makes me feel humiliated, however I think it is truly more humilitating when I wet my pants.

Also, I wear depends diapers, but have leaked through the diaper at night. Someone here told me there are abenas which are much better at absorbing. Do they sell these in Canada? Does anyone know. If not, what is a good absorbing diaper in Canada?

    Thanks in advance.

  17. Thanks all so much for the advice! I especially like the robe idea and wearing something tight fitted (such as panties/spandex shorts) before putting on my pjs. I also think the waterproof sheet is an excellent idea to - because oftentimes my diaper leaks and I urinate a bit on the bed. I think this will make a world of difference. I never thought of the plastic bag thing so that is a good idea too, for disposing them. It is only for 2 nights, so I should be okay.

    Thanks again!

  18. Hi,

I have wet the bed on and off for years - especially from when I was born until age 12. Then just recently, I started wetting the bed again. So I have been wearing depends (protection with tabs) diaper. The only thing is, I am going on a conference for work and I am sharing a hotel room with a colleague. I am not sure if I am going to get away with wearing a diaper to bed, without her noticing, ie. bulkyness and crinkling sound it makes. Also, there is the issue of disposing the diaper when I wet it. I don't want to not wear a diaper to bed, because I may very well wet the bed and my pjs and myself which would be even more embarrasing.

Can someone please help!! I really need some good advice.

  19. I am a bed wetter to. I have been when I was kid until age 12, and then it re-started recently. So I wear a diaper at night, and it pretty much saves me from changing the bed sheets and pjs. I used to be very ashamed about it, and still am a bit. I'd rather wear a diaper than wet the bed!

  20. I also am a bed wetter. I was when I was a kid - until about age 12. Then I started wetting the bed just recently again. I remember feeling so much shame and humuliation when I was younger because I thought only babies wet the bed. I also remember my mom putting a diaper on me when I was about 8 years old and I hated it! I felt like a baby! But now, I don`t care, I wear a diaper to bed because I don`t feel like changing my sheets, and clothes. The diaper I use is Depends protection with tabs. It is a good diaper, absorbs alot, and good for night time.
