  1. The current gold price is a speculator-driven aberration. True, there is an intrinsic value to gold based on its use in electronics and jewelry, however the "real" value of gold as derived from the classic supply/demand equations is nowhere near $1,800. Remember silver? Same thing. Shot up on speculation and then crashed.

I'm getting ready to call gold "the beanie baby of 2012". Remember... you heard it here first!

BTW... found the ring! Oddly enough, it was in my little jewelry box.

  2. Somewhere in my bedroom is a little box with the wedding ring from my first, many moons ago, marriage. With gold WAY up there I figure it's time to cash in. Trouble is... I can't find the box! I can see it in my mind's eye sitting in my sock drawer back in my old house. Trouble is... I moved 3 years ago and probably packed the thing away. Guess it's time to clean up the bedroom, eh? With my luck the price of gold will plummet the day I find the ring!

  3. My beloved wife got an extra 3 weeks of European vacation (AND got a private box seat to see David Tennant and Cathryn Tate in Much Ado About Nothing. JEALOUS!) . I had to come home and work. *sigh*. She's a teacher, though, so she deserves it...

In her absence I've been taking advantage of her nice collection of super-high-intensity vibrators. I figure if she's going to get to see Europe for a couple of more weeks the least I can do is have some Quality Private Time with her toys. But now she's coming home, so it's back into their Secret Hiding Spots (not so secret to me, at least). Then again, I'm hoping to have something considerably better than "a toy" coming (!) my way soon...

  4. While I'd love to have my wife change me, that's not going to happen.

    How I put on my Depend's 3-tabs:

To get a snug fit you should put the diaper against the wall and lean on the wall, holding up the diaper. Pull the front of the diaper up so it's nice and snug on your crotch. Pull the right top tab over on secure it below the blue tape around 1" from the top. Re-snug the diaper and do the same with the left-hand tab pulling it as tight as you can without breaking it (easy to do if you're not careful!). Sung up again and make sure that the excess plastic on the right bottom is pulled out next to your leg. Pull the middle-right tab up and secure it as close to the middle as you can, around 1/2 " below the top tape. Repeat with the left, snugging the diaper each time. Finally do the bottom tabs in the same way.

When you're done you shouldn't be able to put your finger between the bottom of the diaper and your crotch without working at it a bit.

  5. After the second distillation...

Five pint jars. I've only tested the middle one, and that's at 80% ABV (160 proof!). I'll be toasting some oak in the oven this evening and putting the stuff up in quart jars at around 50% ABV (100 proof) with the toasted sticks. Hand made sticks, I might add. We just lost a 150 year old white oak and have a LOT of wood! Should be drinkable in about a month.

  6. First cleaning run done. Started with 80 Proof vodka (40% ABV) and distilled it out to around 150 proof. My step son is using that in his alcohol stove.

Second cleaning run done. Started with 10% ABV sugar mash. Distilled out to 100 proof. Down the drain.

Third cleaning run. Ran boiling water for 45 minutes without the cooling water to steam-clean the whole thing.

Fourth cleaning run in progress. Boiling water and distilling with cooling water on until distilled water coming out is tasteless.

When this is all done, the still will be cleaned and ready to make drinkable stuff.

Tomorrow I do a "stripping" run to turn 5 gallons of corn/barley "wine" into around 1 gallon of concentrate.

Then I do the final run and probably end up with around 2+ quarts of rough whisky/moonshine at around 120+ proof. That will age for a couple of weeks on charred oak and then thinned down to 90 proof and bottled.
