A Step daughter with a second chance(private)

Recommended Posts

Ryan Olsen, a 39 year old man was now sitting in his living room next to a young girl that was now his child to watch over and raise since the girl's mother who was an ex-girlfriend of his whom he had ended their relationship on good terms with. He was still going over the events in his mind that had led to him becoming the guardian of a young girl because her mother wasn't up to the task of raising the poor girl. He had recently retired from full-time policing last year and had been living a quiet life of not having to deal with criminals or the dumb drunk people that he came across when stopping people for violating traffic laws, etc. He had gone to school while being a LEO to get a degree in IT Administration and now worked from home as a freelance IT Administrator for various websites and clients who needed his skills to run their sites. It had happened so fast, that he didn't even know where to begin with how this had all happened.

First it had started with a phone call from his Ex, asking to come over, he had agreed because he thought that they were gonna just hang out at his house and just not turn into what it had turned into by the end. When she got there and he opened the door, he had not expected to find his Ex with a young girl that looked like she was no older than a elementary school student or even a middle school student. After a bit of hanging out and talking and just enjoying each other's company, but then it just turned into several arguments when his ex revealed why she had come over to talk with him. Ryan and his ex got into several arguments before she finally left and he had agreed to take care of the girl that was now standing in front of him. While he was happy to have the chance to just give the girl a better life then she had probably experienced. He would never be a replacement for her mother, but he was going to do the best he could to raise her to be the best girl she could possibly be.

Seven-year-old Sawyer sat on the couch, her stomach aching from hunger. She had no idea what to say after her drug-addicted mother sent her out the door to live with another friend of hers. Usually, she would be left by herself at the house while she went out, or her friends would look after her at the house she lived in, not that she much minded. She would just sit in front of the tv while they did whatever it was they did upstairs. But now, now it was different. She was in another house, with a man she had never seen before, and her mother was screaming at him earlier that day. Maybe she didn't want her anymore. Was she really that bad?

Sawyer scratched at her hand in nervousness, unsure of what to say. Her stomach growled angrily, demanding food. It was a usual occurrence, with her only getting a couple meals a day at most, and usually just something from a can or a box. Her mother was never a hands-on cook. Determined not to look up at her new guardian, she instead looked down at her hands as they scratched and pinched each other.

As Ryan was also sitting on the couch, slightly looking at the girl, wondering what he should do now that he was her guardian. He did however notice that the poor girl was scratching and pinching each other while her stomach was growling angrily at her. Ryan decided that it would be a good idea if he made some dinner both for himself, but also for the young girl he was now taking care of and in charge of raising. He got up and just went to motion the young child to follow him into the kitchen. When he was sure that she was following him, he went into the kitchen and pulled out a chair for the young girl to sit down at and told her "you can sit down if you want, I'm gonna make you something to eat for dinner. Your tummy sounds like it's pretty hungry and I wanna make sure that you can have a nice and full stomach so that way you don't have to go hungry tonight. Is there something in particular that you would like for dinner?" He asked her wondering what she was gonna ask him to make her for dinner.

Sawyer followed silently when she was prompted, and couldn't help but smile slightly when the chair was pulled out for her. She remembered seeing such a thing on tv, and how the lady would compliment on how "gentlemanly" the man would be to do that. Whatever that meant.

"I like mac and cheese," Sawyer replied, knowing that there was at least one box of the pre-packaged food in the pantry. Most of the food was on the cheap end, not that she minded that. It was what she was used to.
