Drifting back together

Jessica stretched at her desk as she reviewed the newest contract on her desk. At 25 she was the CEO of Adventures Inc a multi-billion dollar conglomerate that had dealing in everything from education, to transportation, and even politics. The young woman had worked hard to get where she is starting at the company when she was just 15 as a part time sales associate. She had worked hard to earn scholarships to pay her way through college and graduated Valedictorian with her bachelors in business. Even now she strived to continue improving working toward her masters online. The contract she currently was reviewing was for the advertisement department with an up and coming company that developed absorbent underwear for adults and older children. The numbers looked good so she signed off on the document handing it to her assistant. 

Jessica sighed as she leaned back in her chair. She could feel  a headache coming on. She knew she had been burning the midnight oil so to speak over the past week working closely with the product development team and PR on an upcoming project. What she really needed was a night off. Just some fun and maybe a few drinks with some girlfriends. How long had it been since she'd done that? College maybe.. she still was in touch with her best friend sending the occasional Hi and happy holiday text but they had drifted apart over the years. Still she needed to unwind and thought who else to reach out to. Jessica grabbed her phone and texted her old friend.* Hey, How are you? If your free tonight wanna go get dinner and a few drinks my treat  * She sent the text then continued her day figuring she'd see during her lunch if she replied.

Mya had just gotten up from a long night. She had a pounding headache and her dace hurt like hell. She had gotten beaten by her boyfriend last night because he cam home drunk and she tried to offer him water. It painted her to see him get so violent towards her when all she wanted was to be loved by him.  She got up and swallowed some pills for her headache. It was her day off today from the restaurant she waitress at she decided it would be a day to relax and hide from the world. 

She was on her third episodes of friends when she got a text from her old best friend jessica. She was happy jessica haven’t talked that much anymore. She would love to go out for drink but she couldn’t with a black eye She decided to put some make up on and cover it up hoping jessica would be able to tell is she wore sunglasses over it. She responded to the text * Sounds great does 5 o clock work for you. And we can meet at our favorite place * she responded excitedly she would be happy to leave before her boyfriend showed up and beat her. 

She got dressed in a black dress in did her long brown hair nicely then tried to cover up her black eye with make up she thought she did a decent job but you could still see some of the swelling. She grabbed her purse and headed to the restaurant to meet jessica.

Jessica saw Mya had responded to her text as she was leaving a meeting. She smiled and texted back.  " Sure see you then". Jessica looked over her schedule.  She canceled her late afternoon meeting. Jessica went home and changed out of her business attire into a pair of black leggings, a red peplum top, and black knee high boots. She put on light makeup and grabbed her purse to go. 

 Jessica arrived at 5:00 on the dot at their favorite little Italian restaurant and bar. She came inside and got seated at a table for two.  Jessica sent a quick text letting Mya know she was here and got them a table. She ordered two glasses of wine for them to stay with when she arrived and mozzarella sticks for an appetizer.

Mya was running alittle late because she had to take the bus to the restaurant. she was happy to see her best friend and let loose. She couldn’t wait for a drink, She wasn’t happy about explaining her black eye maybe jessica wouldn’t notice. 

Mya walked in the restaurant and spotted jessica at a table you couldn't miss her. “ Hey jessica “ mya said happily sitting down at the table She took a large sip of the glasses wine on the table figuring it was for her

Jessica stood and hugged her friend after so long it was great seeing her. As they sat down Jessica looked at her best friend as she sipped her wine. Jessica picked up her own glass and took a sip. She thought it was curious that Mya wore sunglasses especially inside. "How have you been? It feels like forever since we last saw each other I missed you." The waiter came over and gave both women a menu.  "Dinner is my treat tonight I've been itching to get out.  I'm so glad you were available."

Mya smiled happily she was excited to see her friend she hadn’t been out in awhile. “ I been better “ she said with a shrug then dipped her wine again.  She looked at the menu to decided what she wanted she was happy when jessica said she would pay she didn’t have much money.

” Me too i haven been out in awhile. Busy with work and stuff. How’s work going for you “ mya asked finally picking steak quesadilla for her meal.

Jessica smiled ordering steak fried. She also requested a margarita for when her food was brought out.  "Good busy actually we're working on a major acquisition of a chain of restaurants.  It's been exciting but also a headache. How's work been for you?" Jessica didn't mention the restaurant chain they were acquiring was the one Mya was employed by. They were almost done with their first glass of wine and still Mya wore the sunglasses.  " Hun you planning to leave again soon? Why the sunglasses? "

“ works been crazy my boss is trying to make everything nice for this company or something like that” Mya said finishing off her glass awhile she also order a long island ice tea with her quesadilla. 

When jessica finally said something about   her sunglasses mya got extremely red and nervous. “ oh i just forgot i had them on “ she said taking them off not wanting to be rude. She hoped she did her make up good enough to cover up her black eye.

When Mya took off her sunglasses Jessica was shocked.  She could tell Mya had heavy makeup on her eye and it was swollen. " Mya what happened? And don't try to act like you don't know what I'm talking about." Jessica clenched her hands together waiting for Mya explanation. Jessica hated to see anyone get hurt but for people she cared about even more so.  In high school Jess had beat up a boy that teased Mya. Someone actually physically hurting her..... they'd regret it. She looked to her best friend concerned for her.

Mya took a deep breath knowing she would be ankle to lie to jessica. Jessica was mya rock always backing her up when she needed and now she needed help. 

“ It’s jackson he keeps getting mad at me for no reason and when i try to calm him down he beats me up. “ she started to cry she knew jackson would like her telling anyone. “ he’s also been stealing my money i have nothing “ she started full out sobbing.

Jessica was livid.  She'd never liked that weasel but Mya was so in love with him there was nothing she could do. She stood and wrapped her arms around Mya as she cried. " Shh it's okay,  it'll all be okay." Jessica was angry but first she had to take care of Mya. "You can't stay with him. It'll only get worse the longer you stay Mymy. Come stay with me. I've got plenty of room. He won't be able to hurt you anymore."

Mya softly cried into jessica before sipping her eyes a s jessica coddle her. She did feel better but she knew it would be that easy. “ jessica i can’t your to busy with work and jackson will stop.“ she said softly she lie r her best friend but she had to decline the offer she still loved jackson.

“ And  what would i do with all my stuff “ she said taking a sip of wine

Jessica shook her head. "You living with me didn't effect my work. But knowing your there with him ill be worried all the time now that I know." Jessica sat down and looked at Mya. 

"Mya you know just as well as I do he won't stop. One of you has to leave and he has no reason to because he has everything he wants. Your clothes can be replaced. You can make me a list of what things you really need/ want.  Things that can't be replaced and I'll take care of getting them. I know you love him but Mya you have to love yourself more. And if your not ready to then let me love you until your ready to love yourself. Come back home with me tonight and we can figure out everything in the morning." Their food and drinks were brought to the table.

Mya sighed she knew jessica was right she needed to leave and jackson probably wouldn’t be better. She picked up a sip of her new drink before replying to jessica. “ okay i guess i need to leave he doesn’t really love me “ she said with a sigh she barely ate her food as she was to upset and slightly drunk. 

“ When we get back to your place can we watch a movie like we use too in our pajamas  “ mya asked shyly.

Jessica smiled glad Mya agreed. "Yeah it'll be fun I'll even make snacks." Jessica sipped her margarita and began to eat her fries. "Come on Mymy try to eat at least half for me okay. You know alcohol and you don't mix without food. " She smiled playfully teasing her friend.

Mya looked down at her food shen jessica was right so she picked ate it so more. “ i’m not the same i can hold my liquor now “ mya said taking a huge sip before finishing off her food.  “ I haven’t had meal this good in awhile thanks again “ she said as jessica paid the bill she followed her to the car and sat quietly on the way to Jessica's house.

Jessica smiled glad to see her friend finish the meal. The drive to her home was quiet but enjoyable music playing softly on the radio. There was a bit of traffic but within half an hour the pulled up in front of her two storey single family home. Jessica opened the door and let Mya in. The downstairs guestroom is a mess so you can take the upstairs guestroom." Jessica showed Mya her room upstairs on the opposite end of the hall from her own room. Her room had its on en-suite bathroom with a large tub/shower and a separate room within the bathroom for the toilet. " How about you take a shower while I find you some pajamas. I'm glad your here Mya."

mya was surprised at how big jessica house and she would be happy staying here as it felt cozy. “ Thank you jessica “ mya said before going into the shower

she took a long hot shower and washed her hair. She actually felt realized when she got out the shower she looked at her face in the mirror. Her eyes was horrible and swollen it also hurt really bad she wrapped in the towel and wen to the room jessica showed her to see if jessica had left any clothes.

Jessica went to her own room to find something for Mya to wear.  She knew she was a bit larger than Christie and pulled out a pair of pajama shorts with a draw string and a tank top.  They would have to go clothes shopping over the weekend. She went back into Mya's room and laid the sleepwear on the bed. Jessica went to her own room and took a shower putting red satin pajama shorts with the matching spaghetti strap negligee.

Jessica went downstairs and put some cookies in the oven and popped some popcorn. While the cookies baked Jessica turned on the living room TV and brought up one of the streaming programs so Mya could pick a movie.

Mya saw the outfit on the bed and put them on they were alittle tight but she wasn’t going to complain. Once she was done she went downstairs  and she picked the movie mean girls a classic movie. 

she found a blanket and snuggled into the couch waiting for jessica to come out she saw all the snack jessica walked in.

“ I picked mean girls i hope that’s okay. And i was also wondering if you had an ice pack for my eye it’s really sore “ mya asked softly.

Jessica sat the snacks on the coffee table and held up an ice pack wrapped in a small towel. " Already got it I always keep one in the freezer". She smiled handing the ice pack to Mya. "What do you want to drink? I've got soda,  juice, water,  wine whatever you prefer." It upset Jessica seeing Mya injured she was glad she could be of some help to her friend only wishing she'd known sooner.

mya happily took the ice pack the coldnes against her bruised skin felt much better. She thought for a minute before she decided she would like a another glass of wine. 

“ I’ll take another glass of wine please “ she said holding the ice on her eye She picked up some popcorn and started to munch on it.

Jessica poured them both a glass of wine. Handing Mya her glass she turned off the light and sat next to her on the couch.  Jessica pulled the blanket over her legs as the movie started and she snacked on cookies with her wine. When the movie ended it was just part ten.  Jessica smiled at Mya.  "I forgot how much I liked that movie. Oh I almost forgot". Jessica went and grabbed a notebook and pen from her office.  Bringing it back she gave it to Mya.  "Write that list of everying you want from your old place.  I'll pick it up on my way home from work. Also you should probably take a few days off work.  Your face needs to heal and he'll probably come by your job when you don't come home."

mya loved i’m the movie she was having a genuine good time. She sipped her wine and enclaves some more until the movie was over she almost forgot about her face until Jessica said something. 

“ okay i’ll write a list but i don’t want you to go there by your self jackson will probably be upset. He already started calling me asking where i am “ she said softly before she wormer down a couple items she need like clothes old pictures of her family and a pairs of sneakers. 

“ i already called work the day this happened there giving the rest of the weekend off “ she said finishing off her wine.

Jessica took the list and nodded her head. " No worries I'm going to have a police escort. I shouldn't be gone to long tomorrow.  I don't usually work Saturdays but with this acquisition it couldn't be helped. I'll leave a house key on the counter in case you decide to go out tomorrow. Just don't answer his calls and don't meet up with him to talk okay." Jessica hugged her friend. "Make yourself at home anything you want help yourself. I'm gonna head to bed so I can get an early start in the morning." Jessica yawned and waved goodnight heading up to bed.
