Foster Princess (Private)

Sarah was 4 years old and had just lost her parents 2 months ago. She was doing okay, other than being in the foster care system. Currently she was at a halfway home between the social services office and a foster home. She was told that today she was going to be assigned to a foster home. She didn't know who was going to be her new foster mom or dad, but hoped they'd be nice. She was wearing a light pink hello kitty shirt with a pair of overalls and little pink sneakers. She had a small green frog backpack that had a few pairs of clothes and her stuffed bunny and baby blanket she carried everywhere. She sat on the wooden bench outside the office. The paperwork was all filled out. Now she had to wait to be picked up.

Mikayle took a deep breath, she lost her husband and child in a fire years ago and recently decided to foster. She finished the paperwork weeks ago and had just received a call. "Hello? Yes this is she. Really? I'm on my way!" She had a little girls room already ready. She parked her car in front of the foster center and walked inside.

Sarah sat nervously on the bench waiting to start her new life. She looked up at Mikayle when she walked in. She was too shy to say anything. She didn't know if Mikayle was here for her or some other kid. She had seen lots of other kids leave in hert wo month stay. She looked around wondering if this was going to be the last time she saw this place.

Mikayle crouched down in front of her, "hello little one, what's your name?" She smiled warmly.

Sarah looked at Mikayle nervously. Was this her foster mom? "Sarah." She said quietly as she stared down at her feet. She looked up shyly and saw the warm smile on her face. "Are you here for me?" She wondered if this was who she'd be living with from now on.

Mikayle nodded and held her hand out, "are you ready to go home sweetheart?" She looked over at the owner of the home, "is she potty trained?"

Sarah shyly took Mikayle's hand and stood up. She was shorter than Mikayle's hips. She blushed when her new foster mommy asked if she was potty trained.

The owner smiled seeing Sarah respond well to Mikayle. "Yes, she is potty trained." She said leaving out the fact that Sarah had wet th bed for the first month she was there and had quite a few daytime accidents before she got comfortable at the halfway home.

Mikayle nodded and held her hand out, "are you ready to go home sweetheart?" She looked over at the owner of the home, "is she potty trained?"

Mikayle smiled and looked down at sarah, "that's wonderful!" She looked at Sarahs backpack, "is that all she has? We'll have to go shopping tomorrow." She looked back up at the owner, "do I need to sign anything else?"

Sarah looked at the grown ups as they talked and she thought about her new life. She looked at Mikayle and liked her warm smile, but she was still too scared and nervous to smile herself.

"Yes, that's all that could be recovered of hers when the fire happened." The owner said sympathetically. "No, you're all good."

Mikayle reached down and picked sarah up, 'that's okay! Lots of toys at my house."

The owner smiled. "Do you have a carseat for her?" She asked before they left.

Sarah smiled a little at being picked up. She had a,ways loved being picked up and carried.

Mikayle nodded, "I picked one up a couple days ago." She looked at sarah, "ready to go home?"

Sarah smiled and leaned into Mikayle. "Yes. I'm ready."
