After I read your post, I downloaded the episode and checked it out. They were in acting class and the teacher was teaching them about subtext. Tori and Jade were playing a married couple and Cat was their baby; the subtext was anger, so he wanted them to say happy dialogue in an angry tone.

(personally, though, I think he got it backwards; since subtext is supposed to be hidden, wouldn't it have made more sense for them to say angry lines in a happy tone since, on the surface, they appear to be happy, but, underneath, are actually angry? )
