The Cat with a Hat, and a Golden Flea

A land far away in a silver sea

Lived a cat with a hat, and a golden flea

Said the cat to the flea “that birds looking at me”

“You can jump high, and pluck clouds from the sky”

“Go and ask that bird why cats can’t fly?”

Now a flea on a bird sounds quite absurd

But he jumped and he landed on the back of the bird

“What a strange thing to ask” said the eloquent bird

“But if all cats could fly, that would be absurd”

“They’d eat all the birds who twitter their song”

“There’d be no birds left before very long”

“Come down and meet him, join us for tea”

“No, no” said the bird “your friend will eat me”

“Just look what he’s doing, he’s lighting a fire”

“and setting a spit, which I don’t desire”

“I’m not being roasted to make a cat’s tea”

“Now jump back and tell him, good-bye little flea.”
