Let me tell you a story! I was born in 1969 I was the youngest of 3 kids. My parents had two daughters there was Francine she was born in 1958. She was the oldest. Then in 1960 my parents had Harriet. My parents thought thats all they were going to have. Then oops! Yeah I was born November 1969. I was a surprise baby. Now my family were rural types we had a couple of hundred acres of farm land. My dad was happy he had somebody to leave the farm to. My sisters had no interest in it what so ever. My dad used to work me from sunup to sundown, just like him. In 1980 my oldest sister Francine was at college. I was 11 years old. She kind of got cought up in the times and got hooked on drugs. She got pregnant and had a daughter one day Francine returned with her daughter named Autumn. Francine snuck out and left Autumn there. Autumn was almost two. At first I hated Autumn, I was jealous of Autumn. I had been the baby for 11 years and now my parents had an almost baby. "Why do we have to take her? I asked? "Because were family thats what you do! You take care of your own!" My dad told me! Now my thinking, I had forgot she was family, she was my neice and I was her Uncle, Uncle Clarence! That was me. Now all I really knew was Autumn cryed a lot. Instead of Uncle Clarence I was more like a brother. I protected her from other kids pickng on her. I let her tag along with me when I went to the store in town I would buy her a piece or two of penny candy from the stock they sold at the store. We got close like I was her brother. Now Autumn was a bedwetter she wet her bed until she was 12. I dont know who was more proud of her getting dry, herself, me or mom and dad. While at college Harriet came up missing, the police expected foul play no body or her were never found she is still missing to this day. Now as my parents got older I stayed and helped take care of them. I also ran the farm. They had a nurse come out twice a week to check on them. Me and the nurse kind of hit it off, soon we were dating. Then we married. She was almost 26 years old. I was 24, we had Autumn who had turned 15. She loved Rachel my wife, I think but I cant prove it even more than me. Mom and dad were in declining heath. We hadnt heard from Francine since she dropped Autumn off here. Rachel and I had been married three years. We never had children. After test after test we found out we were never going to have kids. It hurt to see some of the kids from town that were messing with sex and getting pregnant. That felt like a slap in the face. Here these kids didn't want their kids and Rachel and I wanted them but couldnt have them. We sent Autumn to the University to becomeca lawyer. Thats what she wanted. Rachel was out doing her rounds as a nurse. We got hit with blizzard, it was a blizzard and a half. Rachel didnt come home I called her agency she worked for, they seen her earlier. But that was about noon she filled out all her reports on the patients she had seen and left. Perhaps she is driving slow because of the blizzard. I called the County police and let them know to look out for her. I found out that the road between where they are located and where we live is closed. I actually felt better she is probably in a motel staying warm. I expected to hear from her any time. I went and started fixing dinner, she should be home any time. The power went out. Now I have a wood burning stove I lit and it kept the house warm at least the living room kitchen area. The dinner was no longer cooking in the oven I got it on the wood stove and lit a lantern so we had light for if and when Rachel gets home. The couch converts into a bed. Dinner was ready, no Rachel. I went to call the police again. This time there was dead air. Phones out no wonder I haven't heard fom her. Living Rural like we do the power and phones going out is not anything new, happens every time it storms. Just that this is the first time me and my wife have been seperated by a storm.
