  1. i put a new cath in this time 2 days ago as i started to feel it a bit and saw a little caclium in the neck of the inlet tube. been good for a couple days now. i have never used a night bag so its hard to see in the filter of the bags im using. i can see through the clear part. im kind of wondering if cleaning it after infection actualy cleans it enough. i wonder if it gets into the plastic itself. but yes i use the hot tub or pool depending every day. summer turned cooler winter turned warmer. i keep it with a gal of bleech in it a aweek. yes i think it can get into where the tube is but generaly that has not been a problem. all it says for use online with a cath is to put a plug in it if you go swimming or to the lake. i dont think i would try public anything but i do like the soak in the hot tub
  2. any more for me diapers are uncomfortable. granted i use the big ones. i still wear one between caths just to make sure it passes. i dont think the calcification is a sign of uti. its the sign of bacteria. i know i keep the hot tub at a lower temp and has plenty of chlorine and other bacteria in it. but you might try soaking. even with a sealed cath ie the bag i cant believe some water does not get in. i go in with an empty bag its empty when i get out. but still i wonder.
  3. Thats a lot of sediment. or calcium deposits. my room mate had a huge calcium stone like a kidney stone upstream of his bladder or there abouts. they put a stint in to let it break and pass and then went back in to take it out. but he has had kidney stones before as well. 40k surgery for each in and out. i dont as a rule get any real depositis. at 6 weeks there is a roughness to the ballon and some of it on there. the one i posted a couple weeks ago was the most i had ever seen. was almost plugged inside. i am watching the filter where it fits the bag it seems the calcium starts building there. i have cut a couple open recenctly to monitor how much is there and none to speak of really. but i am watching more. sinus surgery is in 2 weeks. that should help control some of the infections. honestly they say a cath is best at a month. after that it does start to degrade. i can make it 6 weeks but that does not make it the best choice. right now taking out weekly to clean. i dont find i have a uti. calcium deposits as i said above do come naturaly as well as if bacteria meets urine calcification. but does not mean a uti. i sit in the hot tub every day for an hour or so after i get up. i e i can see your email there but i cant respond to it have to go to my desk. generaly i cant live without it in. the 600 ml can fill quicker and i start feeling that urge its like the body has no capacity anymore. wearing it about the waiste makes it easy to go to the restroom at least.
  4. I only find minor calcium deposits as the cath ages. in or out even cleaning it and reusing it has a life span. i have started watching the filter in the bag for deposits or calcium i can see a little and when i see more i pull it to clean it. but if i leave it in for 6 weeks the cath ballon degrades to half the fluid and the irriation starts and the ballon turns a brownish color from i guess decay. its the silastic itself breaks down to some degree.
  5. Im only using 5ml not the 10 in the ball. im not sure what a bladder spasm or cramp is. i know as the cath is in longer more calcium builds up on it and i feel it more. i know when i put the diaper on the other day to flush out things between changes i barely got out of the shower. it was like i was trying to hold it in like a long road trip. got the cath in and was relieved but only a couple tablespoons came out in the bag. my body is so set on the cath now as a routine. but it was very urgent to put the diaper on or the cath back in. i notice the urge to go just crossing my legs on my desk with the cath. have to move them so it can release. as far as size goes it has to be comfortable and seal. to big it rubs and tears tissue. id go with the 14 next time you change and watch for it.
  6. i have tried 14-22 16 is normal for men i am told. diff types silastic vs silicone also appear to be diff size. comfort seal non irriation are the right choice. remember the balloon does not deflate all the way when it comes out. what goes in as a 16 comes out a 20. you also do not want to suck so much fluid out of the ball it becomes flat that hurts on the way out. reuse is often as well a 20 going in vs its orriginal 16. right now i have been taking mine out every 2 weeks to clean and rotate another one in. they are good for about 6 weeks and have it in as long as 2 months. due to medications i have for autoimmune issues side effects are sinus infections which also influance uit. same bacteria.
  7. well a childs brain is not fully engaged to all its senses and muscles an adult is. so no mater how much you try you will still know or feel the need to release. the point becomes how long you can hold what amount. with a cath in for over a year i cant hold but a couple table spoons now. if i put a diaper on between caths i feel urgency to go because the now set normal for the muscles is open and relaxed. as such with out the cath in the body wants to try to hold it closed more. with little capacity its only a few minutes of walking before i pea more again. just small amounts. if i stand up with a diaper on a little comes out if i drink sitting more will come out while sitting even because the volume is such that i cant hold it. with sleep meds and a diaper i will wet the diaper to its full 32oz capacity by morning. i will remember it a couple times sort of like roll over move leg that urgency feel. big diapers do impact that because they cut off the flow. its my day to clean the cath so diaper till tomm. i normaly use a panty girdle to keep it up as it gets full so i can get about 12 hours out of a northshore supreme
  8. Its bad i had sinus rotorroooter at 30 i totaly forgot about it. so now im yelling at them at the va over it. my meds make uti and sinus infections more likely. it is a side effect. i don think i have a uti but i did get a lot of calcium what looks like salt in the bottom of the pan. i had rinsed it off as well and tried to flush it and went what. sort of squrted back had preasure. must have been half a teaspons so it was deff plugged. waited a few hours put new one in all good. 4 drs at the va said surgery of which 2 looked at the ct of the face then the surgeon came in said no. i told him to fuck off and left. so now the head of ent countermanded that so i see him tue. i might live to be 70 if the meds dont kill me first. oddly in great shape just issues. but with my issues and i can do a cath with little to no chance of infection anyone can. i was just thinking after i put the new one in to get some cranberry juice i keep forgetting. i soak mine in soap and bleech then rinse with alchol in and out before using. sterile surgilube also helps.
  9. i have heard of those tips when i researched it. seeing as the cath can rotate i felt that was a bad idea so never went there. i have a pending emergency surgery for my sinus will find out tue when. i had it done in 1990 forgot about. my auotimmune medication set it of so dying at night is highly likely. also sinus infection. well that also has led to minor uti for the first time i took that cath out at 2 weeks. it was somewhat plugged with calcium left it to clean and soak. wore a diaper chose to put a fresh one in for bed. so looks like i will start cleaning for now weekly. as i said in your question i have worn it for about 6 weeks to 2 months. 4-6 weeks is about optimum since the water in the ballon starts to escape and the cath starts to break down or degrade. this is the first time it was partialy bloked and its nothing to do with the cath or having one. it has to do with sinus and skin infections in me. just happened to be an oppertunity to happen. but it cleaned no degredation of the cath so will clean and use it again. these clean very well. once you start noticing a rough surface that does not come off and redish or brown shadow to it then its ate into and no longer usable. that roughness is what causes the pain you might feel and also creates the infection. but it was minor i almost did not remove it to clean and then thought i would check. alot flushed out in the soaking dish so i know it was partialy plugged. i had a diaper on for several hours went to the movie i swear i cant live without the cath now the diaper is just to much bulk and weight and layers to protect. love wearing the cath. not sure what will happen if they do sinus surgery on me. guess they will find out then. i hope they do the surgery but god its an awful surgery but since i already cant breath it would at least have an ending. will see.
  10. i had gi issues due to autoimmune causes lesions in my upper gi. they found it on endo and colon test. mom lost 18 inches of her upper gi due to it. i told the dr during my colon test and since i was staying overnight they found it in an endo. they put me on gerd meds i told them im not gerd. they did not listen so a year latter i started fighting with the va was pumping fluids out. put food in stuff came out. hemotology found i was vitamin dead ie food out. so 2 years in they the gi clinic put me on suclafrate and relized the lesions would never heal. so gi issues mostly gone. ie i dont need to wear a diaper just in case. i chose the cath and 2 years in im probably dependant on it either way. no way i can go but a short while not without a diaper on. so in this time my autoimmune has caused more nerve issues im sure will play into that. i follow the ms page and most of them have that issue.
  11. yeah i think in my case it was just an overinflation. hard to say but i found the silicone to flimsy and i pinched it off more than not. so when i came to the silastic it was great.
  12. After 2 months or close to it being in with 5ml in it i got back 2.5. now there was probably some in the tube you cant get out but i think that as the cath degrades over time it seeps through. i cleaned my last one put it back in might take it back out today waiting new ones on thursday. like i said fighting a sinus infection so this flares up a little. my sinus infection so bad begging for surgery. 16f is the size recomended for men. i have a 12 here as a silicone i guess i started with it i kept it as a spare. i did find it leeked and its the one or one like it that blew up when filling. i have used 18 20 22 also the bigger the more discomfort with no gain. the 16 seals good no irritation and does not leak.
  13. Yeah when i was learning about it i gi issues some bladder. autoimmune disease so i am on some of those fb sites. they have to self cath and have accidents at work and such. no way. i found the risk with the silcone ones is blowing up and poping inside. i know one did on me. the silastic can stay in longer but no real bacterial issues. like i said right now sinus infections so more bacteria in my body so a slight one on the cath. just an irritation. was surprised it was in 2 weeks. took it out you can tell becasue calcium grit forms on it. thats the infection or result of it. but could be my disease as well. these silastic caths are so comfortable i honestly dont want not to have one in. i did clean this one put it back in twice now after cleaning and a day in a diaper. im bad about the cranberry juice they say that helps. one of the first silicone ones i had and have a second one here the bulb broke and the pieces did piss out after a time. was thankful of that and i did find with them you can pinch it off vs these you cant.
  14. I Noticed that i feel it more i guess what you call holding it while you sleep with the diaper. be it the need to move rollover or what. i will wake with a soaked diaper so im not sure i feel it all the time but i do some. the bigger heavier diapers and i usualy use a panty girdle of sorts to hold up tight. i think as im still on a sinus infection brain not here. i meant to say intermitant self cath. its just a straight tube more or less. im not sure i would let anyone else do a cath i can feel and know what to do when i feel what. i cant imagine someone else being able to do anything but shove it in. no way they could get that right. i dont notice mine is in at all love it. i like the diaper but honestly even the monthly once i do it not worth it just to messy or leaks etc. i wanted to try with just a pair of panties on outside to see how long i can hold it normaly without a bulky diaper before it lets go. might try that when the new caths come in and i take this one out. hard with a big bulky diaper to get the true feel of where you stand. i know urgency builds some wih the diaper and cover and such so its restrictive. should be here end of week will see how that goes. see what kind of non cath ability i have left.
  15. Medicaly speaking your situation would normaly be the self cath method. its a straight tube insert to use pull out when done. i had a slight discomfort the other day pulled out the cath slight infection cleaned it the next day and put back. had to pull it out a few days latter. one of the things i have learned is that if you get the slight bladder infection and mine was related to sinus and meds nothing else. you cant reuse it. i guess no matter how much you clean it the bacteria must eat into the cath. it was only in about 2 weeks. each time i take it out i leave the diaper on for about 24 hours to flush the system. also not been on my cranbery juice as much either. i did clean it again and put back new ones here in a few days.
  16. your kidneys pass the fluid so if the cath is in there then like the drain in your sink it goes through. now i may have worn mine so long with so little retention there it cant hold it so it does not matter. but i have not found the placement of the bag to be an issue. i do agrea its designed as a gravity fed system. that being if you wear it below like leg or say in bed with it attached to the bed its lower. that would further show that it just passes through. at any rate with a cath in it goes through like a plumbed sink no stopping it. take the bag off to change it i do it in the shower at waist level its still comming out. no on or off just goes. i dont think the bladder has anything to do with it anymore when the cath is in. the longer you wear it the more your body says thats the way it works and what comes in must go out. they also make a tube for extension to the bed i tried it once. the tube goes on the cath then the bag some place else. i used the tube to try to put the bag in the back vs front it worked did not work well as for placment and bag. but its a clear tube 2 feet long. now keep in mind i have no push no im going to go i put the tube on put it at should height and it still dribbled out as it filled up and i drank water. there was no push no got to go with the cath in what comes in goes out.
  17. I use the 88 cent ones i sent the link on. generaly 2 weeks. leak well that depends as to use. if you put it in a place that pulls the input it can pull the seam more or sit on the exit valve. generaly wearing it vertical since its a must now as i cant under the cath thing i dont find it leaks. i use to soak the bag and rinse it with bleach and you can i just sort of use a new one each week. 88 cents. lets call it reverse urge. if you take the cath out the body wants to in my case tighten up i guess and it hurts as well as any amount i have has to pass as an urge as well. since i use the northshore supremes they are a bit bulky so it kind of binds or puts preasure on it. i have not tried it with just panties on or something that would not say pinch things off. but generaly the moment i take it out i feel the need. its like can i walk accross the bathroom to the shower or to get a diaper on and let go. my body does not want to hold it closed now at all. the longest i have had it out say in the last 6 months was for a dr visit at the va. maybe a couple hours. generaly with the cath in you drain to 0 so if you dont add anything you can go a little time. so i would go in take out in the parking lot then go from appt to bathroom etc. put a diaper on even for it or not. i have had a diaper on and going while talking to a dr mind you. the va is very impersonal so they dont as a rule check you out very well. i dont think it would suprise them all be it i look better than most of the vets there for 60. but with my autoimmune it attacks my gi so for a couple years i had to not eat wear protection in case i did not make it to a bathroom. so i did get use to wearing a diaper for real. did not need to as much but slowly got better. i think with ms you lose bladder control. all be it mine is not ms it is similar so it wont surprise them. i know for sure there is no way i can make it through the night without wetting the bed. the couple times i have put a fresh diaper on i find myself with a full one in the am. i would more but to much a mess to clean up and generaly i get up go to the hot tub or pool. with a cath and a bag you can do that.
  18. yeah around the waist is the best. i do normaly use a diaper for a day or so when i remove it before putting a new one in. less irratation and so on. but i do notice when i do that i need to go like all the time. its an urgent need to let go. even if you dont need to go. so i think once its in so long the body is in reverse. i had the va today as i already died once. auto immune hit the floor near death experience kind of thing. 5 years into i have to go have surgery to rebuild my nose and face bones. what was it mother said always wear clean underwear. well make sure you keep a spare bag in case of leaks and if your drs dont know they will when you get admited. mine dont yet. im guessing the will for surgery in a couple months.
  19. i am a paramedic also, the flushing you did was correct. you do not want to pull it back out. i would encourge you to read up on flushing solutions. the reason being they antibacteria and also break down sediment. meant for it not just a flush. so they may alos be a help. your correct to use alchol on every thing that was touched. from syrnige to the cath the cath and the nozel to the bag. what ever cleaning fluid you use is generaly fine but the last thing and the first thing should be alchol in on and about the syring.
  20. well yours is a case where flushing i think will be a daily routine and work well for you. just remember to be as clean as possible. soak materials in bleach water when not in use. that med never heard of but it sounds like a muscle relaxer that should work well. once your body accepts it as a normal you should do well. i can say loose is better let the tubing go where it feels right. i have tried several positions for the bag for the longest time just layed it in my panties. the nozel more to the rear but once i sat on it and it opened. give it time work through it. like i said i cant live without mine now its been so long. wont even consider it
  21. i let the bag loose more or less in the panties. thats probably one of the reasons your getting irritation. what you also need to do in your case and im surprised the dr did not go over it with you is cathater flushing. i dont it can stay in about a month before i notice it 2 months max. but use a solution some are meant for use when its in you to flush the cathater. some are meant for when its out then put it back in. get the right one. even a saline or sterile water would work. you just use a syringe and flush it. that might be where your problem lies. let the bag lay in your shorts and start flushing the cath every day or so. i do wear mine so it fills from the bottom and arround the waist is the drain port. i also find that to be the most confortable with the less stress. in my panties is good but it can slip out down the leg or something so generaly arround the waist. they do make them for that but i like the bigger bag either way i would go that way for you. flush it and the bag on the belly. its called a belly bag as well if you buy one for that.
  22. im into it a year and half now. at 60 some recall is not as good. i know if i take it out use a diaper its urge all the time as i walk no matter if i need to or not. i cant recall ever having to remember to relax. i do suppose with time it just becomes normal to relax it. i can bear down per say and i think my body does try to from time to time. i probably have had a bladder spasm but not that i can recall. as it goes longer closer to change i do find a sort of irritation on the ball side. to big a size like 22 gave me irritation at the end. other than that no real irritation. now its just normal. feels really good as well just a total release
  23. appears to have a much longer tip and i have heard of those. its one of the reasons i did not order it becasue they caution that the tip if inserted to far can cause bladder bleeding and spasms. i took and put 5cc in mine on the table to see and there is like 1/4 tip if any. the balone fills on the oposite side of the ballon so no real tip to stick you with.
  24. the only thing i can say OOCH that would hurt in anyway use except in bed. i remember your post on issues but i think a normal tip would hurt less. i filled mine up to 10cc on the table almost no tip so short of stuff it up in you i cant imagine what this is suppose to do. i guess the ribs are to keep it in. but ow.
  25. honestly cant comment much there since its a medical issue that falls outside the norm. i had to look that one up and by no means an expert but that looks like it would be worse than before. it has a longer nose past the balloon forcing into the sensitive areas like poking a stick. in my research that condition is normaly used by intermitant cathaters not indwelling.
