  1. i put a new cath in this time 2 days ago as i started to feel it a bit and saw a little caclium in the neck of the inlet tube. been good for a couple days now. i have never used a night bag so its hard to see in the filter of the bags im using. i can see through the clear part. im kind of wondering if cleaning it after infection actualy cleans it enough. i wonder if it gets into the plastic itself. but yes i use the hot tub or pool depending every day. summer turned cooler winter turned warmer. i keep it with a gal of bleech in it a aweek. yes i think it can get into where the tube is but generaly that has not been a problem. all it says for use online with a cath is to put a plug in it if you go swimming or to the lake. i dont think i would try public anything but i do like the soak in the hot tub
  2. any more for me diapers are uncomfortable. granted i use the big ones. i still wear one between caths just to make sure it passes. i dont think the calcification is a sign of uti. its the sign of bacteria. i know i keep the hot tub at a lower temp and has plenty of chlorine and other bacteria in it. but you might try soaking. even with a sealed cath ie the bag i cant believe some water does not get in. i go in with an empty bag its empty when i get out. but still i wonder.
  3. Thats a lot of sediment. or calcium deposits. my room mate had a huge calcium stone like a kidney stone upstream of his bladder or there abouts. they put a stint in to let it break and pass and then went back in to take it out. but he has had kidney stones before as well. 40k surgery for each in and out. i dont as a rule get any real depositis. at 6 weeks there is a roughness to the ballon and some of it on there. the one i posted a couple weeks ago was the most i had ever seen. was almost plugged inside. i am watching the filter where it fits the bag it seems the calcium starts building there. i have cut a couple open recenctly to monitor how much is there and none to speak of really. but i am watching more. sinus surgery is in 2 weeks. that should help control some of the infections. honestly they say a cath is best at a month. after that it does start to degrade. i can make it 6 weeks but that does not make it the best choice. right now taking out weekly to clean. i dont find i have a uti. calcium deposits as i said above do come naturaly as well as if bacteria meets urine calcification. but does not mean a uti. i sit in the hot tub every day for an hour or so after i get up. i e i can see your email there but i cant respond to it have to go to my desk. generaly i cant live without it in. the 600 ml can fill quicker and i start feeling that urge its like the body has no capacity anymore. wearing it about the waiste makes it easy to go to the restroom at least.
  4. I only find minor calcium deposits as the cath ages. in or out even cleaning it and reusing it has a life span. i have started watching the filter in the bag for deposits or calcium i can see a little and when i see more i pull it to clean it. but if i leave it in for 6 weeks the cath ballon degrades to half the fluid and the irriation starts and the ballon turns a brownish color from i guess decay. its the silastic itself breaks down to some degree.
  5. Im only using 5ml not the 10 in the ball. im not sure what a bladder spasm or cramp is. i know as the cath is in longer more calcium builds up on it and i feel it more. i know when i put the diaper on the other day to flush out things between changes i barely got out of the shower. it was like i was trying to hold it in like a long road trip. got the cath in and was relieved but only a couple tablespoons came out in the bag. my body is so set on the cath now as a routine. but it was very urgent to put the diaper on or the cath back in. i notice the urge to go just crossing my legs on my desk with the cath. have to move them so it can release. as far as size goes it has to be comfortable and seal. to big it rubs and tears tissue. id go with the 14 next time you change and watch for it.
  6. i have tried 14-22 16 is normal for men i am told. diff types silastic vs silicone also appear to be diff size. comfort seal non irriation are the right choice. remember the balloon does not deflate all the way when it comes out. what goes in as a 16 comes out a 20. you also do not want to suck so much fluid out of the ball it becomes flat that hurts on the way out. reuse is often as well a 20 going in vs its orriginal 16. right now i have been taking mine out every 2 weeks to clean and rotate another one in. they are good for about 6 weeks and have it in as long as 2 months. due to medications i have for autoimmune issues side effects are sinus infections which also influance uit. same bacteria.
  7. well a childs brain is not fully engaged to all its senses and muscles an adult is. so no mater how much you try you will still know or feel the need to release. the point becomes how long you can hold what amount. with a cath in for over a year i cant hold but a couple table spoons now. if i put a diaper on between caths i feel urgency to go because the now set normal for the muscles is open and relaxed. as such with out the cath in the body wants to try to hold it closed more. with little capacity its only a few minutes of walking before i pea more again. just small amounts. if i stand up with a diaper on a little comes out if i drink sitting more will come out while sitting even because the volume is such that i cant hold it. with sleep meds and a diaper i will wet the diaper to its full 32oz capacity by morning. i will remember it a couple times sort of like roll over move leg that urgency feel. big diapers do impact that because they cut off the flow. its my day to clean the cath so diaper till tomm. i normaly use a panty girdle to keep it up as it gets full so i can get about 12 hours out of a northshore supreme
  8. Its bad i had sinus rotorroooter at 30 i totaly forgot about it. so now im yelling at them at the va over it. my meds make uti and sinus infections more likely. it is a side effect. i don think i have a uti but i did get a lot of calcium what looks like salt in the bottom of the pan. i had rinsed it off as well and tried to flush it and went what. sort of squrted back had preasure. must have been half a teaspons so it was deff plugged. waited a few hours put new one in all good. 4 drs at the va said surgery of which 2 looked at the ct of the face then the surgeon came in said no. i told him to fuck off and left. so now the head of ent countermanded that so i see him tue. i might live to be 70 if the meds dont kill me first. oddly in great shape just issues. but with my issues and i can do a cath with little to no chance of infection anyone can. i was just thinking after i put the new one in to get some cranberry juice i keep forgetting. i soak mine in soap and bleech then rinse with alchol in and out before using. sterile surgilube also helps.
  9. i have heard of those tips when i researched it. seeing as the cath can rotate i felt that was a bad idea so never went there. i have a pending emergency surgery for my sinus will find out tue when. i had it done in 1990 forgot about. my auotimmune medication set it of so dying at night is highly likely. also sinus infection. well that also has led to minor uti for the first time i took that cath out at 2 weeks. it was somewhat plugged with calcium left it to clean and soak. wore a diaper chose to put a fresh one in for bed. so looks like i will start cleaning for now weekly. as i said in your question i have worn it for about 6 weeks to 2 months. 4-6 weeks is about optimum since the water in the ballon starts to escape and the cath starts to break down or degrade. this is the first time it was partialy bloked and its nothing to do with the cath or having one. it has to do with sinus and skin infections in me. just happened to be an oppertunity to happen. but it cleaned no degredation of the cath so will clean and use it again. these clean very well. once you start noticing a rough surface that does not come off and redish or brown shadow to it then its ate into and no longer usable. that roughness is what causes the pain you might feel and also creates the infection. but it was minor i almost did not remove it to clean and then thought i would check. alot flushed out in the soaking dish so i know it was partialy plugged. i had a diaper on for several hours went to the movie i swear i cant live without the cath now the diaper is just to much bulk and weight and layers to protect. love wearing the cath. not sure what will happen if they do sinus surgery on me. guess they will find out then. i hope they do the surgery but god its an awful surgery but since i already cant breath it would at least have an ending. will see.
  10. i had gi issues due to autoimmune causes lesions in my upper gi. they found it on endo and colon test. mom lost 18 inches of her upper gi due to it. i told the dr during my colon test and since i was staying overnight they found it in an endo. they put me on gerd meds i told them im not gerd. they did not listen so a year latter i started fighting with the va was pumping fluids out. put food in stuff came out. hemotology found i was vitamin dead ie food out. so 2 years in they the gi clinic put me on suclafrate and relized the lesions would never heal. so gi issues mostly gone. ie i dont need to wear a diaper just in case. i chose the cath and 2 years in im probably dependant on it either way. no way i can go but a short while not without a diaper on. so in this time my autoimmune has caused more nerve issues im sure will play into that. i follow the ms page and most of them have that issue.
  11. yeah i think in my case it was just an overinflation. hard to say but i found the silicone to flimsy and i pinched it off more than not. so when i came to the silastic it was great.
  12. After 2 months or close to it being in with 5ml in it i got back 2.5. now there was probably some in the tube you cant get out but i think that as the cath degrades over time it seeps through. i cleaned my last one put it back in might take it back out today waiting new ones on thursday. like i said fighting a sinus infection so this flares up a little. my sinus infection so bad begging for surgery. 16f is the size recomended for men. i have a 12 here as a silicone i guess i started with it i kept it as a spare. i did find it leeked and its the one or one like it that blew up when filling. i have used 18 20 22 also the bigger the more discomfort with no gain. the 16 seals good no irritation and does not leak.
  13. Yeah when i was learning about it i gi issues some bladder. autoimmune disease so i am on some of those fb sites. they have to self cath and have accidents at work and such. no way. i found the risk with the silcone ones is blowing up and poping inside. i know one did on me. the silastic can stay in longer but no real bacterial issues. like i said right now sinus infections so more bacteria in my body so a slight one on the cath. just an irritation. was surprised it was in 2 weeks. took it out you can tell becasue calcium grit forms on it. thats the infection or result of it. but could be my disease as well. these silastic caths are so comfortable i honestly dont want not to have one in. i did clean this one put it back in twice now after cleaning and a day in a diaper. im bad about the cranberry juice they say that helps. one of the first silicone ones i had and have a second one here the bulb broke and the pieces did piss out after a time. was thankful of that and i did find with them you can pinch it off vs these you cant.
  14. I Noticed that i feel it more i guess what you call holding it while you sleep with the diaper. be it the need to move rollover or what. i will wake with a soaked diaper so im not sure i feel it all the time but i do some. the bigger heavier diapers and i usualy use a panty girdle of sorts to hold up tight. i think as im still on a sinus infection brain not here. i meant to say intermitant self cath. its just a straight tube more or less. im not sure i would let anyone else do a cath i can feel and know what to do when i feel what. i cant imagine someone else being able to do anything but shove it in. no way they could get that right. i dont notice mine is in at all love it. i like the diaper but honestly even the monthly once i do it not worth it just to messy or leaks etc. i wanted to try with just a pair of panties on outside to see how long i can hold it normaly without a bulky diaper before it lets go. might try that when the new caths come in and i take this one out. hard with a big bulky diaper to get the true feel of where you stand. i know urgency builds some wih the diaper and cover and such so its restrictive. should be here end of week will see how that goes. see what kind of non cath ability i have left.
  15. Medicaly speaking your situation would normaly be the self cath method. its a straight tube insert to use pull out when done. i had a slight discomfort the other day pulled out the cath slight infection cleaned it the next day and put back. had to pull it out a few days latter. one of the things i have learned is that if you get the slight bladder infection and mine was related to sinus and meds nothing else. you cant reuse it. i guess no matter how much you clean it the bacteria must eat into the cath. it was only in about 2 weeks. each time i take it out i leave the diaper on for about 24 hours to flush the system. also not been on my cranbery juice as much either. i did clean it again and put back new ones here in a few days.
