Amazing work as usual!
I love how you come up with such compelling arguments for Mimi's mother to use against her daughter. Its so obvious that its embarrassing the poor girl, but at the same time the argument makes sense. Her mother seems to care a lot about Mimi, but a liiiittle too much, haha. I think you do a really good job of showing that and building on that part of her character.
Im previous chapters, I used to think this was all some kind of torturous nightmare for Mimi, with nothing but bad news for her in every chapter. So I really liked the past couple of chapters that introduced and included Cat. She immediately struck me as such a dynamic character. I dont know what it is about her, but Cat seems so unique and different, she really stands out. On top of that, its nice to see Mimi has a good friend on her side now. Can't wait to see Cat in future chapters.
Just one thing that struck me in this chapter is why Mimi wouldn't lie about getting changed by someone else at the party. For instance, her mother says something along the lines of "Im sure you'll find someone to change you there", I kept asking myself why Mimi doesnt just say something like "Yep, I sure will!" and change herself like she wanted to? Maybe Im missing something, but thats just something that kinda caught my attention. you probably set it in place for some kind of literary connection to her mothers advantage or Mimi's disadvantage, I dont know =)
All in all, love the story. Love this chapter. Great job, and keep up the good work!
