Lil_Miss_Ruffles Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Eureka Springs Diversity Weekend Went to their "Meet & Greet" yesterday dressed as a woman to test the waters, so to speak. We had parked behind the place and, having never been out in the general public before, took a deep breath to help settle my apprehension as we got out of the car. This get-together is held on a deck outdoors behind the home of the hotel owner and a large hedgerow hides it from the road from which we were approaching. Although we were early, I could already hear quite a few voices and I'd be a liar if I didn't say that part of me wanted to flee back to the relatively safe confines of our car. But, in for a penny, in for a pound as the old saying goes so we kept going and I steeled myself to approach just as if we belonged there as eyes swung toward me. We made our way to an empty bench and to my surprise, there were quite a few smiles and greetings even then. The wife took in our contributary bottle of tequila for the margaritas. I watched for a few moments as others arrived and soon people were introducing themselves and were delighted when they discovered who I was. All they had seen to this point was pictures of me in my pink 'Lil Miss Ruffles' dress (in which the face was pixellated at the time). As this is only an informal get-together before the serious partying of Diversity Weekend gets rolling, I was the only one "dressed up" in any way, and overdressed at that, but it was soon apparent that I was one of them and welcome. After a few hours there, about thirty of us descended upon a local restaurant where we spent another better part of an hour eating good food, chatting and having a great time. They have a few sayings about this town and I have now discovered that they're are indeed true, "Where the misfits fit" and their favorite, "America's only open air asylum." It was great! They managed to rid me of any major apprehensions so I will be going there again today but as "Lil Miss Ruffles," frilly dress, diapers, and all. Wish me luck! ***hugs*** Ruffles
DollyDiaper Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Hope you both have a really fab time miss Ruffles! Looking forward to hearing all about it when you get back. Dolly
Lil_Miss_Ruffles Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 Thank you Dolly for the well wishes. It looks very promising to be a lot of fun and I am greatly looking forward to it. The "Wish Me Luck" was in hopes that it doesn't all blow up in my face. Cheers! Ruffles
DollyDiaper Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I know it shouldn't have to be this way but I think it was clever of you to save Miss Ruffles for today, to allow others there to get to know you a bit first. All I can say is, if anyone there gives you a hard time, they're hypocritical, prejudiced and not worth knowing anyway. Hope you have fun! Dolly
littleone Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 How cool!!! Sounds like great fun!!! Let us know how everything goes - I'm jealous!!!

Guest VladYvhv Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Congrats! On one hand, I'd like to go to one such celebration... On the other, I have a severe case of paranoia and downright fear of groups of people I don't know (classifications don't apply here... If you're a group of people and I don't know you, you scare me IRL [Nothing personal, it just happens])... So, I certainly think you're lucky to have the courage and support of a loved one to go. Have some fun for those of us who don't, huh?
Morv Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Sounds like a pretty cool and open group of people. Can't wait to hear the stories.
