"Who dat, Daddy?"

Mommy is browsing the shelf, seeing if she can find the perfect bear for Benny.

But her back is turned and he can't see her face. 

 

She and Daniel had been exchanging texts throughout the day about Benny, and he told her that if she was done with her work, she should come meet us at the mall, so she had a friend who was passing by the mall drop her off so she wouldn't miss Benny making his friend. 

Of course, Benny didn't see the messages, so he had no idea. 

 

"Buddy, do you see that lady over there? Do you know her?"

"It's Mommy! Mommy I over here!"

He shouts, not caring who hears him

Mommy turns around and comes over to his stroller

"Hi, Baby Boy. Daddy told me that you were getting a new furry friend today, and I couldn't miss it, so I got a ride"

She lets him out of the stroller and gives him a hug

He hugs Mommy back

"I missed you, Mommy. Daddy took me to the store to get stuff for me nursery.

And Daddy teached me that word cause I did not know what it meant. I just thought I was just having a room.

And I buyed toys. And Daddy helped me buy a dolly so I can help you with your project. And the Dolly is a Mister wets a lot, like me, but we got pampers for the Doll too.

And Daddy told me what Mommy fav'rite cookies were and I bringed them to you. Daddy let me carry them"

 

 

Benny is feeling very chatty right now because he's excited to see Mommy again, so he tells everything they did that morning. 

and he smiles from ear to ear because he remembered it all.

"Oh you did? It sounds like you and Daddy had a busy morning.

Yes, Benny, you have a nursery. I'm glad you got some things you like. 

You are such a sweetheart, Benny. Bringing me my favorite cookies. 

Yes, you can help me with my project now that you have your Dolly. Any thoughts on a name for the Doll?"

Benny nods

"I did Mommy. I have a name for my Doll, Mommy: Dilly. Dilly the Dolly"

"What a great name, Benny.

Now let's help you pick out a furry friend"

Benny looks at the wall of teddy bears and still can't decide. They all look so cuddly

A sales associate walks up to them. She has a bear in the bear backpack she's carrying

"Hi. I'm Clare. It's a Bear-riffic day. Are you looking for a furry friend, Little One?

Would you like to see my Bear?"

Benny hides behind Mommy

Then he quietly says "yes" to seeing the bear

"Our little guy is just being shy right now, but I think he wants to see your bear"

Daddy says

 

 

Claire takes her bear out of the carry bag and shows him to Benny, who is still hiding behind Mommy

"This is Winston. He keeps me company.  He's a Bearemy Bear. Isn't he cute? Would you like to feel his fur?"

Benny stands up and feels Winston's fur.

"Soft" he says

"I want this one, Mommy and Daddy"

"Great. Let me take you over to the display and we can get started making you your very own. 

You can hold Winston if you want"

 

She gives him to Benny

 

"Bring your Mommy and Daddy over here"

She leads them to the Bearemy display

Benny takes Winston and follows Clare to the display where there many are unstuffed Bearemys in a bin

"I like yours better. They is flat" 

He says

"Well you stuff your bear full of hopes and wishes and then your bear will get full. 

Let me hold Winston while you pick out one to stuff"

She holds her hands out for the bear

Benny gives Winston back. 

He takes the unstuffed Bearemy shell from the top of the pile, but he isn't having the most fun yet because the bear is unstuffed, and he's never seen one like that

"let's go over here. I think you'll like this next part"

She leads the three of them to the hearts and stuffing machine

"Pick out a heart for your bear and make a wish. Warm it up by holding it in your hands"

 

She puts a small amount of stuffing into the bear and it starts to look more life like

"I can do it"

Benny picks a red and white checkered heart and "warms" it up in his hands

"Yay, bear is done" he says, ready for his bear

"Your bear isn't quite ready yet, sweetie. We have to finish the heart ceremony, then we get to add as much stuffing as you want. 

Do what I do: Stomp both feet like this"

She stomps her feet

"Mommy and Daddy feel free to join in"

Benny stomps his feet

"Okay, now put heart over your heart like this"

Claire touches her chest to demonstrate

Benny rubs the stuffed heart over his heart

"Now, the last part of the ceremony, we touch the heart to the top of your head because that means you'll love your furry friend with your whole self:

From head to toe"
