[From College to Diapers (private with littleben)]

Mama climbs up with Benny and they play with the things on the jungle gym. Then they slide down to where Mommy and Daddy are waiting. 

 

Mama says: "Wow, that was fun. We should do it again"

Mama says:

"Okay, I sure hope I remember how to play jungle gym, Sweetie. It's been so long. Maybe you can show me how"

 

Mommy and Daddy go to their assigned spots at the bottom of the slide

They get to the park

 

Mommy:

"Okay. We're here, Benny. What do you want to play first?"

 

Mama unstraps him from the stroller

Daddy:

"Okay. It sounds like we're going to the park, buddy"

 

Daddy puts his shorts and sandals on and says

"Would you like to push him in his stroller, Mama?" 

 

Brenda nods: "I sure would like that. Thank you, young man"

 

And so Mommy grabs the diaper bag, Mama Brenda puts Benny in the stroller and straps him in. And they start walking toward the park

"Well, we could show your Mama your room or your play place.

Or we could go to the park"

Daddy comes over and tickles him

 

"You said wanted Daddy, remember?

Daddy came to get you"

"Well of course you can, Baby" she says to him

 

She says to Daniel:

"He has always loved this. I see not much has changed. He's still my little baby. Just a little bigger"

She powders him well, and tapes his new diaper on

 

"There we go, all better now" she says

"Very good. Now we'll be all fresh when I put this new diaper on you" she says

 

She looks at Daniel and says: "Benny's my third boy, I know that look"

She lifts his legs to put the new diaper on him

Brenda sees the look in Benny's eyes

"Oh no you don't, Mister. I know that look. You're about to pee pee on me"

 

So she gets the old diaper back and puts it up to block him just in case

"Is something funny, Baby? Do you want tickles?" She says to him

 

Daniel comes up behind her because Benny is talking up a storm, and he wants to see if he'll say more to him

"You're talking up a storm, Buddy. Can you say "Daddy" ?"

 

Brenda takes the clean diaper and starts fanning him with it

"I have to make sure the skin is dry before I put the new diaper on"

"Yes, that's right, Benny.

It's Mama. Say it again, Baby. You talk so well"

 

She wipes him clean with a baby wipe front and back

She lays him down and gets all the supplies ready.

"Alright, Baby Boy. Let's get you into a dry diaper"

 

She untapes his wet diaper and lifts his legs up with ease, just like she did when he was little

 

"Oh, how cute.

Benny, you have the same tushy you did when you were little, it's just a little bigger now" she coos

She asks Megan:

"Can I change him?"

 

And Megan tells her: "Of course you can. We have a changing table right over there. Everything you need is in the drawer"

 

Brenda stands up while still holding him. "Wow, he's so light. But he looks chunkier.

Anyway, let's change your diaper, Benny"

 

She takes him over to the table

"Oh, you missed me?

Well, I'm glad I came to see you, Baby"

 

She looks down at him

"Is that a wet diaper? Did you wet during your nap?"

Brenda says playfully:

"Baby boy, you don't know your own Mama?"

 

She gives him a kiss

Then Mommy walks in from the kitchen and puts her hand on his shoulder

 

"Benny, I'm glad you're feeling better. Did you have a nice nap otherwise, Baby?"

Mommy pokes her head in from the kitchen and she says:

"Benny, do you feel better? It sounds like you were having a bad dream"

Daniel and Brenda continue to chat while Megan goes upstairs. He explains to Brenda that they call him Benny, and that he calls them Mommy and Daddy. He hopes these titles don't offend her, and it sounds like they take good care of him.

She's not offended by them. She explains that Benny calls him Mama, and his father Papa.

 

When Megan brings Benny downstairs, she puts him in Brenda's lap.

Megan picks Benny up out of the crib. 

 

She says: "It's okay, Baby Boy. You're having a bad dream. You can stay with me until you wake up"

And starts to carry him downstairs

Megan shows her all the photos she's taken of Benny so far, including the ones from the beach, and the video from today of him and Daniel. 

Brenda: "Wait? Your fiance is involved?

He changes the baby?"

 

Daniel: "Yes, I am.

Megan knew him first, but I do things for him. I give him his baths, I feed him, change his diapers, anything he needs"

 

B : "That is really impressive. I always thought he needed a strong male role model. I stayed home with the boys, and my husband went out to work long hours, and I mostly took care of them. He did what he could"

Then they all hear Benny's whimpers come through the baby monitor that Megan is wearing on her waist

 

B : "He must be upset. Do you think you could go get him?"

M : "Sure, I'll go get him"

Megan goes up to get Benny. She goes up to his room to see what he's doing

Daniel leads Brenda out of the room, and into the hallway.

The reality of seeing her son asleep in a crib, wearing a diaper has made her really understand that he's being treated like a baby in a way that just hearing the words couldn't.

She says: "He looks so peaceful sleeping like that. Is he a good baby? He isn't giving you too much trouble, is he?"

And Daniel says: "No, he's a really good baby boy. Everyone he meets thinks he's really special. We can talk more downstairs until he wakes up"

 

And she says "Sure"

They all go downstairs

Meanwhile downstairs the doorbell rings. It's Benny's mother, Brenda. 

 

Daniel invites her inside and says:

"Welcome, ma'am. It's nice to meet you. You have a wonderful son. Come on in"

 

They wanted to meet during Benny's nap time so they could talk to her

And so she comes in and they sit at the kitchen table

Megan: "Welcome, Ms. Brenda. This is my fiance, Daniel. We've been taking good care of Ben for the past week. He's stayed here every day, and we took a trip to the beach with my family"

 

Brenda: "Well, yes of course. You told me via email. Thank you for keeping an eye on him. Is it a curfew?

I know that that those kids can get wild on Spring Break"

 

Daniel decides to clarify: "Well, yes of course. But Ben isn't on Spring Break. He got kicked out of school. That's why he lost his housing. We let him stay here with us. He wasn't entirely honest with us. 

Then we saw his wet underwear in his bag, and he told us he had trouble wiping, so we decided to help him with his accidents by putting him back in diapers. We wipe him all the time now.

And we could tell that he wasn't handling adult life well, and he started acting more like a baby, especially by lying, so we decided to treat him like a baby"

He points to the high chair

"This high chair is for him. He's really taking to it well. We hope to teach him good values this time. And we seem to be making good progress with him: he's using his manners, he's more social, he's clean down there. 

Sorry we couldn't tell you all this over e-mail. We didn't think it would translate well. I know Megan told you were treating him younger"

 

Brenda takes a minute to take all this in. Then she speaks:

"Thank you for telling me. I'm sorry for my son's behavior before. You are completely right to treat him like a baby. Thanks for keeping him clean. He has struggled with that for a long time. 

Can I see him?"

 

Megan: "Sure. He's taking a nap right now. We can take you upstairs to see him. I think you've done a good job with your boys. I taught Nate, and Benny tells us that he is doing well"

Brenda nods, and the three of them go upstairs to Benny's nursery, and they look at him sleeping in his crib.

She lets Benny drink for a couple more minutes. 

Then she feels him slow down, so she puts her finger in his mouth to unlatch him. She puts a pacifier in so he can still suck. 

She puts him in his crib, and covers him with a blanket. She raises the side of the crib up, she turns on a sound machine (another new addition to their nursery), and leaves his room quietly.

She puts him on the other side and starts rocking him in the chair

She comes and picks him up from the changing table

"Okay, Sweetie. I'll give you some milk"

 

She leaves his shorts off, and he'll just nap in his T-shirt

She takes him over to the rocking chair, and opens her shirt to give him some milk
