  1. I figured I'll attach my Windows side of my machine.. Which you'll NEVER actually see me using... I use it only to test my Java apps, and my C++ apps, and rarely test web design. Which usually I can test these in a Virtual Machine... but sometimes it requires a bit more power than a VM.

    Anyway, here.

  2. I'm not overly skilled in the computer arts so I have a "play" computer that I frag and use for test drives. It's a dinosaur, but one cannot argue with a free toy .

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely check them out, I think I've wandered through there once or twice.

The one Linux I saw on here that I really liked the look of was the Mint on page 1, I think. I liked the clean look of it. Of course, I'd miss my Conky :D.

Yeah. That Mint looked basic. Right up my alley. Just like, I don't care how a certain application looks, as long as it gets my job done.

  3. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to abandon Micro$oft, I wasn't picking on you, it just amuses me that a thread about computers can only go so long before someone hijacks it into "my OS is better/cheaper/faster/more stable than yours".

By the way, there have been some sweet Linux screencaps on here, makes me want to test drive some new distros.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread. :P Wasn't trying to.

I test drive in virtual machines, just seems easier that way... and you can play with more than one at a time!

I do use Windoze for one thing and one thing Only... Web Development.. I use it to test the IE browsers for the websites I design. and that itself is in a Virtual machine.. Lol

DistroWatch has a good list of almost all the distros out there.

I usually pick a few out of the top rated every so often and give them a shot. Kinda fun to do IMO.

The couple screenshots I saw looked like Ubuntu Netbook Edition, almost.. but I wasn't sure. Looked neat though.

  4. Three pages before: "OMG! Linux is soooo much better than Windows! I can't believe anyone uses Windows! You should switch NAO!"...:lol:

I used to use Linux to surf and do most of my interwebz tasks. And I use Windows when I watch Netflix online or play games. Lately, I've been using Windows and my Linux machine is gathering dust because I've been watching a lot of stuff on Netflix and I got tired of switching back and forth.

Well, I never said it was so much better.. I just said it was what I used and why I used it... and that I gave it up due to a big argument with Microsoft Support for their Servers.

Microsoft charged me 350$ for an issue that was on their end. And that's where I dropped them.

  5. Where I live, the police station is the safest place in town to do illegal stuff. Not if you were to do it in front of the wendys or pizzahut.....................

    Wow..

Our town is a BIG Drug city... especially the part I'm in, Meth labs everywhere and what not... St. Louis County Police don't take the crap. Either.

Though.. The drug use in VP has reduced.

  6. Hybrid rockets are unreasonably easy to make. Some plumbing fittings and a few household chemicals, put them together and you have a rocket. Strap that bad boy to a bicycle for some extremely dangerous fun! Which coincidentally is the best kind of fun.

I'd have to take it FAR away from my house.. since I live next to the Police Station.

  7. That's for me when I go on a clothes shopping binge :roflmao: Funny that I've never heard of it- that's not too far from here

To the OP, there was a time when a civilian could buy obsolete surplus jet engines from the military ;) Most were disassembled for the scrap metal (titanium etc.) After WW2 for a short time you could buy surplus JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off) rockets. These were solid fuel electrically fired rockets strapped to heavy prop-driven bombers taking off from short airstrips, providing 20-40 seconds of thrust. Most of these were used up by dare-devils who strapped them to cars for shows at racetracks where outrageous claims were made for the car's speed B) Lots of fire, smoke, and noise to please the crowds- a lot like the Jet Dragsters of today :) I kind of doubt that the government would sell such dangerous things today- some idiot would try something stupid, get hurt and file a lawsuit :bash: I guess making a Jet is fun, but making a rocket would be simpler- just bit more risky if things went BOOM :o

    Bettypooh

As fun.. as building a rocket or jet sounds...

I think I'd end up arrested for just setting to what even LOOKS like an engine here..... the City of Valley Park has some really stupid laws....

Oh apparently outrunning a cop on a bicycle is a no-no in VP. Lol, the cop stopped me and asked me why I passed him.

  8. Jets are actually very very simple. Plenty of video on youtube to help explain them.

Now these are much more complicated than the junkyard version. But the principle remains the same.

Now the next question is; do you understand how a turbocharge on a car works?

Let me correct how mechanically inclined I am.. :P

I change oil, Brakes, tires, rack and pinions, and I've done a couple Fuel Pumps.

    Lol

    So no, I don't. Lol

  9. So then I take it you understand how jet turbines work? And how turbochargers work? It may be prudent to take this to PMs if I am to explain how to build such things.

I'm not a great welder, but I can make it work. They just wont be pretty. But honestly if you can turn a wrench and improvise, you can make a jet.

Nope, Not a clue about Jet parts. Lol

  10. Are you mechanically inclined and can use a welder? Or at the very least can understand basic engine operation and can do simple design work? Are you confident in your ability to source parts and improvise?

It's like putting together a big puzzle. But none of the pieces are included, you have to find creative ways to get them to put them together, and in the end the puzzle makes a lot of noise and is moderately dangerous.:whistling:

Oh and did I mention the two foot long flames? Or the afterburners? B):P

    Fire... Sounds good already!

Yeah. I'm mechanically inclined.. probably not so much a welder.. but I do work in the automotive some days.
