How Did The Recent Japanese Disaster Impact The Diaper Industry?

Recommended Posts

For example: How many pallets of diapers were lost in the Japanese quake & tsunami? Did this cause the diaper prices to rise? What else do you know about Japanese diapers after the disaster?

When I was in Japan for a bit, I admired the kinds of diapers they offered. They (probably) trump the American brands (though I never had the chance to try them.)

That is a good question, I just returned from Japan after spending two months over there for relief efforts. I took my own supply of diapers with me, and also bought japanese diapers in Fussa City. The diapers are in abundant in the Tokyo area....

However Bambino's, Abena and DRY 24/7 are by far better diapers then japanese diapers. I have 5 bags of japanese diapers left over and use them for night time wear....

Always good to try the diapers out around the world.

Can't say as I know what the effect was on the diaper market. But If the flood got into a diaper wearhouse the building probly exploded. And mabie if there were no diapers to suck up the water the country might still be flooded.

Saved by the diaper.

I just returned from 3 years in Japan and was in Tokyo during the quake and aftermath. I remember I saw on the news that many people or companies donated a lot of adult diapers to help in the devastated Tsunami areas. A lot of old people lost their homes. I remember seeing stacks upon stacks of the "Attento" brand agaist the wall waiting to be sent out to shelters. The "Attento" of course was PG's brand before they sold it long time ago. . . otherwise known as Attends in Europe/North America.

The diapers there are very good quality but I think they are "too good" for ab/dls. They are somewhat thick and absorb well. . but don't make a sound and aren't babyish at all. They look very medical. . . straight at the hips etc. I had my Attends w/waistband sent from the US and kept them outside of the japanese "Attento" used as a stuffer.

The Japanese AB's tend to use pull ups. They look babyish and come in a 35+kg size. Also. . the AB lifestyle is also more closely tied to breastfeeding. There are 5 or 6 . . . I guess I will say "escort" companies that offer breastfeeding and "other" services for their clients in the Tokyo area alone. Diapers are usually provided and there are many sexual options to choose from like AF, enemas, messy etc. I've never been to one. . . But I have to admit. . . I often thought about it~ I'll translate one of the ads w/google and attach it. Here are some links to some of them. Each profile lists the kind of thing each girl is willing or not willing to do. I don't mean to be a dirty "John" here. I only want to give you an insight into Japanese culture. . . especially the AB culture there.

You were right. According to this article. . . the tsunami has even caused a shortage of diapers in Korea. Well. . . I think that's only baby diapers.

Here is a pic of the "Attento" Diapers I talked about. Not bad but it has the dreaded cloth-like outer cover... with velcro tapes.
