Sorry I was quiet this week. Been in bed for days with bad fatigue. Just Can't stay awake. Got to be related to sleep apnea, need to deal with that.

@DailyDi:  The following comment may not be wise:  Have you tried an appropriately sized adult orthodontic pacifier at night?  I've found utilizing the size 6 orthodontic at night appears to have cut out my snoring, strengthened my tongue muscles and has shifted how the tongue rests in the mouth so I'm keeping the air way in the back of the throat open at night.

If it makes you feel better, my work has been so insanely busy that im genuinely mentally and physically worn out from it. Money is decent at least, trying to save up for a house instead of rent.

The parents are also in the same boat of just tired and sleepy all the time. Not sure if its due to age or not

Interesting! When I can spare the bux I'll have to try it. I really don't want to mess with the mask and hose BS, which is why I haven't addressed the suspected apnea.

I've seen two other "medical" alternate medical solutions (probably more expensive), that are basically the equivalent of sucking on something.  I haven't researched those options.

Another member on here that is from the incontinence side has commented about utilizing a pacifier for this also....

And for me, I've never been evaluated for sleep apena, but one sibling after a three week vacation years ago, where three of us split a single and a double room over the vacation, said they wouldn't share with me again due to snoring.  I think my allergies were acting up, but I'm sure I'm not snoring like I used to and I know my resting tongue position is not blocking the back of the throat like it used to.

Your mileage may vary.  And who knows if the solution is dangerous for some folks.

What's funny is the company who I got my new CPAP from a year and a half ago has been calling me at least twice a week wanting me to order supplies I don't need.  Finally last week, more to shut them up than for need, I ordered a new mask, hose and filters.  To understand, the reason they call over and over is they know insurance generally pays for the supplies.  The more they can push through whether someone needs them yet or not, the more  money they make.  My brother, who get's his CPAP supplies from a different company automatically gets a new mask, hose, water tank and filters every 2 months.  He has boxes and boxes unopened.

Imagine my surprise when they called me yesterday stating I had to see my pulmonologist and have them send in a prescription so the insurance would pay for my order to go through.  AH!  Finally got to speak with a live person instead of a recording!  Funny how fast they agreed to stop the automated weekly calls when I explained how I've been getting them at least once a week for over a year!  I specifically told the representative going forward, when I decide I need supplies, I'll call them.  I hold the cards, and without my doctor's say so, they can't automatically bill my insurance for supplies I don't need.

@rusty pins I do not believe in CPAP machines and or doctors.  I gave up on doctors last year when I went to both my primary care doctor and also my gastroenterologist

Well, most of all, my doctors I have gone to never sat down and asked the following questions.

If your doctor prescribes you medication without first asking about:

  • Your diet
  • Your sleep
  • Your exercise routine
  • Your water consumption
  • Whether you have any structural issues or stress in your life
  • You don't have a doctor, you have a drug dealer.

Now, what I do believe is this if they are not asking the above questions.  Then they are simply don't have a doctor; you have a drug dealer.

See, once I started researching healthy living and such I learned about the questions that doctors are supposed to be asking us.  But they do not, as they are instructed to make it fast with each patient so they can make even more money.

And once you get on 1 medication, you end up going on multiple because they all have side effects.
I am not going to go into detail or even discuss what I believe can be fix or how it can be fixed not on here at least.

I'm with Kaiser-Permanente and they offloaded their handling of CPAP equipment to Apria.  And then it all went to shit.  But I don't even hear from KP at all... EVER.  I should be receiving re-authorizations for my supplies (basically a renewal of the prescription), but only ever saw one for year 2 (it's been 6 now).  I'd like to get a replacement machine soon.  Guess I'll have to make some calls.

Well, that's a bit sad.  CPAP changed my life.   My sleep was so bad it got to the point I was falling asleep at work and was mostly non-functional after getting home.  If I sat down for any length of time I would be out cold.  And even that wasn't good sleep.

I have no problem sleeping.  or keeping awake.  I am just not a fan of Doctors.  maybe a lot of people need a CPAP.  But I am happy your still here with us.

One of many reasons why I wear diapers.

I wake up, have some water, pee, watch some Youtube or read the news etc., then roll over and fall asleep again.
All without getting out of bed.

Yesterday I woke up at 8, but I didn't get out of bed until 19.

Before my CPAP, I had to stay overnight in the hospital.  The nurses the next day said they were terrified as I kept stopping breathing all night long and they weren't sure I'd start again.  When I had my sleep test, the results showed I stopped breathing for over 10 seconds 51 times in one hour.  With a CPAP they want to get incidents down to 2.5% in one night.  Mine are down to .5.  Sleep Apnea can cause 5 times more risk for heart attack and stroke.  Like most people with a CPAP, I sleep so much better now.

I am sure I would need one, as one year, when I was still living at my mom's house, my brother showed up, and I was sleeping on the couch.  And he said I looked like I was not breathing, so he squeezed my nose and woke me up.  I would have liked to beat the crap out of him for that.  But I mainly sleep on my sides, either right or left.  But for some reason, I woke up on my back.

You really need to reconsider using a CPAP or BiPAP. I used to feel the exact same way. I though the mask ans hoses would be extrememly uncomfortable. But it's more like taking an afternoon nap with a hat pulled down low. Yes it takes a  it of adjusting to get the mask fitting right. And yes, it takes a few night to get used to it.

You do have to go through a sleep study. And they 100% do not care if you wear an ABDL diaper. Which I can confirm, having worn Crinklz. You need to wear shorts and a comfortable shirt anyways. I also hit 31 events per hour, and 30 is considered very severe.

However, the CPAP and 15 bars of pressure they insisted on was way too hard to breathout out against. The machine and full face mask thry had me use was near impossible for me to adjust to. It even triggered an asthma attack and lower blood oxygen.

I mearly swore off wver using one again. Then my sleep doctor changed his recommendation tocme using a BiPAP. It senses you breathing out and cuts the pressure way down to a comfortable level. Then way back up when you breathe in. It's a difference like night and day. I also tossed the full mask and went with a nasal mask instead. It's way more comfortable, and has alllwed me to sleep with a pacifier all night long.

The best of all is my energy levels shot way up. My blood pressure went down, and my regular morning headaches went away completely. Now I can't sleep without my BiPAP.

As for the cost. Start a dedicated donation for it. Expect it to cost about $300 - $400. Expensive as crap, but totally worth it.

I went through several different masks before finally settling on one.   But it was amazing how fast I got used to it.

And my machine's a BiPAP as well - but I kinda feel the opposite at times where I don't feel like it's giving me ENOUGH air!   (doesn't help that I continue to have sinus issues where the passages swell up and get restricted, but it's not congestion).

That is a good recommendation.  Although I am not AB, I have used a pacifier with a large teat for years to control my snoring and pre-apnea symptoms.  My expert (my wife) can testify to the effectiveness of my using a pacifier.

With the pacifier I wake up less.  As I am diapered 24/7 being awakened by a full bladder is momentary and I fall back to sleep.  Using a pacifier was suggested by a physician's assistant in neurology who thought that experimenting with an inexpensive pacifier was a worthwhile option.  I should add that he also uses a pacifier and has sleep apnea.

My Doctor recommended that I try a size 6 pacifier before committing to a machine for sleep apnea; even got a prescription for it!  It works so well that I have never given it up.  80 years old and wearing a diaper and sucking on a pacifier when sleeping.  What strange turns life can take.

There you go @DailyDi (Mikey).  You have three incontinent users ( @John Davis, @Babypants and myself @zzyzx) telling you to go get an adult pacifier and suck on it at night.  <grin>.   Sounds like it is at least worth a try.

Look online for your model. They can all be adjusted by entering the manufacturer's programming mode. Mine is a resmed, and you only have to touch both sides of the split screen for a few seconds. I had to tweak the in and out pressure a few times before I got it just right.

I have some jumbo pacis from @RearzJacob I should try, I just always feel sily sucking on one, but at least there's be a reason for it.

@DailyDi: You may want to try some different sizes.  I use size 6.  I suspect the size 10 might be too large for me, but haven’t tried that size.
