widdlemikey Posted November 10 Posted November 10 So, just fetching a few groceries and the store has started playing Christmas music. Okay I get it, the holidays are coming and all that. And sometimes I do like to sing along with it. (although I keep my voice soft, so others don't have to listen to my poor voice). But by the time I get checked out and putting things in the truck and I'm almost in tears. Just another year with no kids around anymore (all grown), no wife (divorced over AB stuff more than a decade ago), and no real friends to speak of. And please don't tell me to 'reach out to others, to make friends you have to be a friend'. Some days, I just get sick and tired of reaching out, helping others, doing things for others, and no one gives even a second thought to including me in anything. Oh well, I'll watch some tv, maybe a football game, soldier on. Sigh...
tigercub59 Posted November 11 Posted November 11 While I don't have a love/hate relationship with it, I did feel that way after my wife died and couldn't stand hearing it that first year. Her birthday was the 21st of Dec. and she loved Christmas, couldn't even put up a tree or anything. So I kind of understand your feelings. What I hate is that it starts before Thanksgiving and I get tired of it weeks before Christmas comes. It's just that they repeat the same songs over and over again, that drives me mad.
backdoorlarry Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Yep, kids grown and gone, not included other than a holiday here or there, wife passed 9 years ago on Christmas day, no friends, no former work mates, etc. ☹️ "Some days, I just get sick and tired of reaching out, helping others, doing things for others, and no one gives even a second thought to including me in anything." Same here dude. 👍 Yep, . . . gotta soldier on... 8 minutes ago, tigercub59 said: While I don't have a love/hate relationship with it, I did feel that way after my wife died and couldn't stand hearing it that first year. Looks like we older guys are in the same boat. It's a tough time.

epzik8 Posted November 11 Posted November 11 When my mom was getting ready to move out of my childhood home a few years ago and I went over there for my last Christmas there, the reality of the situation hit me when I heard the song "A Very Special Christmas" on the radio, and I wanted to cry knowing how ironic those words seemed in that moment since it was one of sadness for me, feeling like years of childhood memories were about to disappear forever.
LilRugrat Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I am sorry you are struggling this time of year. I get it, we had a very close friend pass away in January...she always came to spend Christmas with us. We didnt even decorate this year, christmas songs come on and I change the station. Just know you arent alone in feeling less than cheerful this season. Big hugs for you.
