The enchanted daycare

With this being spooktober, I wanted to write a spooky story. It follows the laid back and irresponsible girl Gabi, who despite her older sister status is nothing like she should be. she's even been incapacitated, and currently her younger sister is in charge of her. One day Gabi is told her sister found her a job, at a daycare. with Gabi´s fondness for being out late this job, is night hourly mainly. It's supposed to be a daycare, but is it really just a daycare? And will it somehow teach Gabi to finally be more grown up?

Chapter 1:

It was nearly sunset, and Gabi was on her way home after having spent all day with her closest friend. Although she knew her younger sister would chew her out for being out with others she still took time to see her friends whenever she could. Yeah their relationship was kinda strange, and some would say unhealthy but it was just how things were. Gabi was never much of a responsible girl, and honestly had been stripped of all authority by their mother. Her younger sister was in charge, even now where their mother had passed awhile back. The younger simply refused canceling Gabi´s incapacitation. Gabi had learned to live with this though, and stilll lived her life as she wanted. Things did also seem to go normally, for awhile though until today when she came home. As soon as she unlocked the door and stepped inside, a flyer came flying towards her. Caught off guard, it hit smack in her face. "auch" she said. while it was just paper the speed was enough that the hit stung. Suddenly her sister´s demanding voice could be heard. "while you were out prancing, I found you a potential job. You like being out late, so most of this job is late night hours."  Gabi picked up the flyer, then looked at her serious younger sister.

Not only was Freida the more serious of the two sisters, she really was everything Gabi should be. Responsible serious and considerate of her actions. She was even taller, than her older sister at this point. Not that Gabi was an unfit wreck, she just never seemed to have grown much at all. Frieda always said it was because, she lacked responsive energy and willpower. And maybe that was true. Even when their mother was alive, Frieda still showed more responsibility and acted way more mature then Gabi. At first their mother had tried, to remain patient with her oldest daughter but one d ay it was too much. While Gabi was out, the mother had made arrangements to make Freida the authority over Gabi alongside the mother. Frieda was thrilled by this, as she had always thought her older sister was way too childish for her age. So Frieda took charge of everything, mostly although the mother was there still too. It went fine for awhile, and for the most part Gabi was kept on a short leash.

However one day she had been out all night with a friend, and the long stress and constant worry drove the mother to her limit. The following day as Gabi came home in the early morning, Frieda waited outside. "Well look who decided, to come home. Too bad it won't make mother better!" Gabi didn't understand. She tried t move past her sister, but Frieda kept her out. "I´ll only let you in, if you promise you'll do as I say from now." Her tune was not to be mistaken, she was serious about this. Realizing she had no choice, Gabi bowed her head and agreed no matter how humiliating iy felt. Frieda then let her to their mother´s bedroom. "Mother Gabi´s back, and she's accepted the conditions." A faint breathing could be heard from under the quilt. Frieda pushed her irresponsible older sister forward, and said to remove the quilt. Not feeling even the least bit, like arguing Gabi did as ordered. When she she pulled it back a pale ghostly face met her. She was about to scream but Frieda covered her mouth. "Gabi...why?" The mothers voice was barely there, and very hoarse. Gabi fell to her knees, unable to even speak. She knew she had crossed a line now, and there was no turning back. after awhile the mother spoke again. "Frieda you're Gabi´s guardian now, I have faith in you. Gabi I love you, but I don't know where I went wrong with you. Just do me this favour and, do as  your little sister says ok?"

Gabi looked up, just in time to see her mother close her eyes. Then she screamed. not even sounding like an adult, but more like the kid she was despite her age. Since then Frieda had given her even shorter leash. Curfew was sunset, and if broken there would be consequences. Powerless Gabi behaved for awhile, until the day our story started. The day she had been out with her treasured friend, lost track of time and came home to a flyer to the face. What kind of job, had Frieda found her? According to Frieda, she had made arrangements for a job interview the following day. so she spend the day time, making sure her sister was presentable. By sunset where Gabi would normally go out with her friends, she instead went to the place Frieda had found. Som kind of daycare, according to this. But what kind of daycare, had night working hours? As she reached the place, she couldn't help but notice how isolated it looked. It was kinda creepy, but maybe that was the point of the night hours too. When she reached the door, and was about to knock it opened immediately. "Ms. Gabi I presume?" the talking was a tall woman, much taller then Gabi actually. shocked by this, al Gabi could do was nod. "follow me please our honoured daycare mother awaits you" Following the unusually tall lady, Gabi started to get nervous. What the heck kind of work place was this?

Chapter 2:

Gabi followed the tall woman, who she still wasn't sure what role she played here yet. As they walked to the daycare mothers office, Gabi heard voices here and there. some laughed others sounded like they were being bullied, and even others seemed to be in whispering chat about secret things. When Gabi tried to ask the mysterious woman, what role she played here she simply replied. "I´m not able to tell you, since your not considered one of us yet. If you wanna know, ask our daycare mother." Well that was cryptic, Gabi thought to herself but decided to keep quiet. At some point Gabi swore she felt, a touch and someone grabbing her from behind but in case it was her imagination she kept quiet.

After awhile and walking a spinning staircase, Gabi noticed a door and thought it had to be the daycare mothers room. Once again she opened her mouth to ask, but the mysterious caretaker hushed her and asked her to wait. She then knocked a strange rhythm, on the door before she entered. Gabi wasn't sure how long she waited, but during her wait there was no mistake someone touched her and giggled at the same time. She asked if there was someone there, but no reply was given but the giggles ad teasing continued. Suddenly the door opened again, and the woman came back startling Gabi. "the mother will see you now young ms. Gabi." Gabi tried to ask what could've touched her before, but the woman just grabbed her hand pulled her inside before closing the door. At first Gabi just noticed, a desk and a chair with the back turned to her. Then a giggle and a sugar sweet kinda child like voice spoke. "welcome to you young guest...no new daycare maid." The chair turned, and now Gabi was face to face with quite the unique looking woman.

Gabi wasn't sure how she would describe her. she looked adult like, in regards to her height but had obvious child traits. Not only that her eyes was different colours, and unless Gabi was in need of a colour-blind check the eyes were changing colours with a set interval. When the daycare mother spoke again, her sugar child like voice was gone and was much more grown up sounding. "Do please sit Gabi. We have much to discuss and get trough." As Gabi sat down, the daycare mother found a stack of papers. Gabi guessed it was her information, needed for submitting the application. "Now first off my name is Junko, and as my trusted assistant Ms. Joanne has explained. I´m the daycare mother. Obviously it means I´m in charge here, and nothing Gose on without my knowing or approval." Well that made a statement. Clearly Freida picked this, to insure Gabi was behaving and actually worked. "don't misunderstand I pay well, to those that actually work. However screw up and the consequences are severe." No misunderstandings here. It was either do as told, or take your punishment. After Gabi had acknowledged she understood Junko proceeded to tell her, how her work would look. Most days on duty, was midnight hours til daybreak. She was to look after the children, play with them if they so wished and make sure they and their rooms stayed clean and all their needs handled. "and make no mistake, we're here to tend to all their needs no matter what. Even if what they ask of you seem, unusual and extreme you must oblige." This certainly was, a demanding job but Gabi knew she had to steel her nerves and accept. After she had agreed and signed her daycare document, with name and vowing to do as children said Junko invited to stay the night. All maids were assigned a room, but were given a device in case a child called for them. Were their device to go off, they would be instructed what room they should go to. Sounded pretty simple, Gabi thought to herself. Night work would be a challenge, but for now she would do would what was demanded. Gabi was then escorted to her assigned room, by that maid Ms. Joanne. She let Gabi know anything she needed, both for the kids and personal use would be there in the room. Gabi then studied her new device, that would go off if children needed help. How would this night go she wondered. She yet had to realise, she was in for her wildest night yet.

Chapter 3:

Gabi looked around in her room. She was aware this was mainly a standby place, but it was impressive how homely it looked. Then she started studying her working device. At first glance it looked like, a regular cellphone but there was instead pictures of the different room numbers. Gabi guessed if one called her, the specific number would light up. it did take some time, before anyone called her but in the meantime she started to hear mysterious sounds. At one point they sounded like children, either laughing or just playing but it had an ominous vibe to it. It all sounded very other world like, and Gabi started to wonder if she could afford to sneak around and check things out. As long as she had her work device with her, surely it would be ok right? So Gabi decided to leave her room, bringing her phone with her. When she came out into the hallway, she noticed it was lid with candles hanging like torches on the wall. Even though it made visibility good, it was still somewhat spooky. Gabi started thinking, what the heck was up. As she started walking down the hallway, suddenly a child started to hum a song. Who was up at this hour? As Gabi wondered this, she heard a knock seeming to come from above. it seemed to knock a morse code. Gabi stopped and listened. It took some time but she figured it said, New girl come up we wanna meet you.

The children of this place, was up this late? Everything Gabi had seen so far, was already out of the ordinary with this place. How isolated it was, and now these mysterious children up late at night. starting to feel a bit nervous Gabi found the staircase, which seemed to lead up to a sort of community room. Now the children´s voices was not to miss. Some whispered others giggled, and yet others made sounds Gabi could quite make out. carefully cause she wasn't sure what awaited, Gabi opened the door. At first glance the room she entered, seemed normal with seemingly normal kids but Gabi had a feeling something was amiss though she couldn't quite think of what. As she stood there in the door, a girl said with an echoey voice. "don't just stand there, come on in. We've been dying to meet our new caretaker." the echo voice had Gabi startled, and she made a loud squeak but the kids didn't seem to notice. suddenly one of them grabbed onto her out of nowhere, and sh was almost send flying onto a chair. as she sat another girl put a put in front of her. "Here have some tea," she said smiling sweetly and hopped onto Gabi´s lap. Voice voice was echoey too, it was almost as if she wasn't human. And yet Gabi could clearly touch her. She was there without a doubt.

As Gabi sat there with the girl sipping the delicious tea, she finally found the courage to ask. "so you all are the children living here? They all giggled echoey, and with one mouth said. "Thaaaat´s right. we're the children of the spirit daycare. The one on your lap is the oldest so she's kinda the leader." the girl on Gabi´s lap, looked up at her and winked. "they're right. I´m Morgana and as they said I pretty much decide things here." Gabi really wanted to ask, how old they all were, cause she had a strange feeling they might not be as young as they seemed. Then she remembered the strange times, someone had grabbed onto her. She asked Morgana if there had been one of them, doing that earlier but they all looked innocent and was all. "no we wouldn't. Plus you would've seen us." That was kinda true, Gabi thought to herself. maybe she was overthinking it. "Although stories of ghosts, tends to go around here" Morgana said with a low ominous voice. Some says we're the ghosts, others say is mother Junko and there's those who think only ms. Joanne is the only human here."

That was way more then gabi, felt like hearing. She drank some more of her tea, and wanted to stand up. However the children quickly circled her, and one came with more tea. Morgana said once again with her echo voice, that she should stay and play for awhile. "We wouldn't want Junko hearing, you refused to give us attention would we?" Well that was true. it be bad if Gabi got in trouble, cause her sister would be informed too. GaBi then decided staying, and play with the kids. Morgana then stood up, and said one of the others should bring her that one thing. The girl asked clapped and jumped before running off. "Everyone has their medallions right?" Morgana sounded demanding, as the others revealed strange medallions. The medallions glowed and, the last girl returned with the device. "The spirit lips Morgana." Morgana nodded and put on a pair of lips on her mouth. She then told the others to light the strange medallions, which they did. Now there was no mistake all the medallion wearing children, turned ghostly see trough. Morgana herself walked toward Gabi. "get ready living daycare maid," she said with her echo voice before kissing Gabi. What happened then Gabi wasn't sure of, cause all she saw was cloudy fog. Then once she looked down, she something that made her unleash a bone chilling scream.
