The New Family Chapter 1: The Ad Lucas stood in the kindergarten playground, pushing Peter, Mette, and Katrine on the swings. It had been a year since he started working as an assistant at the kindergarten after finishing high school. He liked the job. The children were sweet, and the trained teachers and other assistants were nice enough. However, it wasn't what he was passionate about. He had been fascinated by rocks and minerals since a fifth-grade field trip where they visited a cliff with visible geological layers. Now, the time had come for him to fulfill his dream. In just two weeks, he would begin studying geology at a university two hours away from his hometown. He had saved up over the past year to have money for his studies. However, there was still a problem. He didn't know where he was going to live. Living in the university dormitory was an option, but the other students would almost certainly discover his secret there. Lucas was a bedwetter and had worn diapers at night his whole life. His family was open about it, and his little sister still wore diapers at night too. However, none of his friends or classmates knew, and he wanted to keep it that way. He feared being ostracized and teased if anyone found out about his diapers. Therefore, he had been looking for a private room near the university for a long time. However, they were either too expensive or already rented out to others when he inquired. And now time was running out. Soon, it was be time for the last children to be picked up. After tidying up—putting toys away and wiping down tables and chairs—Lucas was ready to go home. After dinner, which consisted of chicken curry with rice and green beans, Lucas sat at the kitchen table as usual and looked through the housing ads in the newspaper. His parents drank coffee and his sister Emma did her homework in her room. At first, there didn't seem to be anything suitable. He had plowed through several columns of ads with prices far beyond his budget, and he hadn’t found anything useful. His parents didn't have high-paying jobs, so they couldn't help much. But then he saw a different ad. Lucas could hardly believe his eyes. He blinked and read it again. And again. It said the same thing every time: Room for rent for serious student. You will become part of the family, but we have demands that may seem unreasonable and violate your privacy. Rent: 1 euro per month. Was it a joke or a scam? Probably. But he couldn't forget the words “1 euro per month.” His finger traced the words, and he felt his pulse quicken. Could this be the miracle he had been hoping for? He imagined paying with a one-euro coin and walking into his own cozy room, complete with a desk covered in papers and a potted plant on the windowsill. There would be no strangers seeing his diapers in the closet or him taking off his wet diaper in the morning. It felt too good to be true, and the problem was that maybe that was exactly what it was. But the ad was under “Rooms” and not “Jokes.” He returned to the words “unreasonable” and “violate your privacy.” What could it be? Surveillance cameras? Mandatory early bedtimes? Or strict house rules that would make him feel like a prisoner? He had no idea. There was no harm in asking, and the price was tempting. Lucas wrote down the phone number and went into his room to call. He dialed the number before he could change his mind. The call was answered quickly. “Daniel Meyer,” said a firm, calm male voice. “Uh, hello,” Lucas said nervously. “My name is Lucas Andersen. I'm calling about the ad. The room for rent.” There was a short pause that made Lucas wonder if he had made a mistake. Then the man said, “Ah, yes. Are you a student?” “Yes, soon. I'm starting a geology program at the university in two weeks.” “Good. It's only for serious students.” Lucas hesitated. “About the rent? Is it really only one euro?” “That's correct.” He tightened his grip on the phone. “And the demands? What are they?” Another pause. “We can talk about that if you come and see the room. Can you come tomorrow?” Lucas's mouth was dry. “Yes, after work. Where is it?” “Six o'clock would be fine.” The man gave Lucas an address in the city not far from the university district, which Lucas wrote down. Lucas agreed to the time. The man asked him not to be late, then ended the call. After hanging up, Lucas sat on his bed staring at the address he had written down. His heart was pounding in his chest. Maybe it was a terrible idea. Maybe he would immediately regret it. But the same part of him that had hoped for the past year that he could soon move out of his parents' house and start a new life told him he had to take the chance. The next day, at six o'clock, he would find out what a one-euro rent really cost. 13

chess Posted September 5, 2025 Author Posted September 5, 2025 Chapter 2: The First Meeting The following afternoon, Lucas boarded the train, backpack slung over one shoulder, with a nervous twist in his stomach. He had barely slept the night before, replaying the short, strange phone call in his head until the numbers on the clock blurred together. It was Friday, and since many parents picked up their children from kindergarten early before the weekend, Lucas finished work at one o'clock. He had just enough time to eat and relax a little before it was time to cycle to the train station. Now the carriage hummed with quiet conversation and the occasional rattle of wheels on the track. Students with earbuds leaned against the windows, a family wrestled with snack bags, and a man in a suit typed furiously on his laptop. Lucas tried to blend in, staring at the blur of fields and towns racing past. The city was only two hours away, but it felt like another world. When the train pulled into the station, Lucas stepped onto the platform and took a deep breath. The air smelled faintly of coffee and car exhaust, sharper than back home. He pulled out his phone, opened the Maps app, and started walking. Fifteen minutes, the blue line promised. His shoes crunched on the pavement as he weaved his way past other pedestrians—many of whom were probably fellow students—and a middle-aged man selling freshly roasted almonds. Bicycles, electric scooters, and cars passed by on the road. He reached the neighborhood a little too early and felt his nerves prickle his skin. Instead of heading straight to the address, he detoured into a small park tucked between two streets. He sat on a bench and watched kids chase pigeons around a fountain, and tried to calm his breathing. It's just a meeting, he told himself. You can always say no. At five minutes to six, he arrived at the address. It was a two-story, red brick villa with a garage on one side. It looked like an older building, perhaps from the mid-1900s, but it was well maintained. The roof was made of red tiles and covered with solar panels on the south side. Various bushes lined the road, and tall hedges separated the garden from the neighbors'. Most of the garden was lawn, dotted with a few trees that appeared to be fruit trees—mostly apple trees—but there were also many flowers. Some parts of the garden looked a little overgrown. Lucas hesitated in front of the door for a moment and then pushed the doorbell. The door swung open to reveal a woman with warm eyes and dark hair neatly pinned back. She smiled as if she had been waiting just for him. "Good evening," the woman said. "You must be Lucas. I'm Clara Meyer, and this is my husband, Daniel." Before he could reply, a tall, broad-shouldered man with kind features joined her in the doorway. "Come in, come in! We're glad you found us." They led him inside, through a hallway lined with framed photographs, mostly of the couple together on holidays and at parties, smiling at the camera. No children. Mrs. Meyer gestured toward a sofa in the living room. "Shall we talk a little first? Then you can see the room afterwards. Would you like coffee or tea? We also have cake." "Tea would be great," Lucas replied, sitting on the edge of the cushion. His palms felt damp. Soon, a tray appeared with a teapot, cups, and a plate of strawberry pie. The man poured carefully and Mrs. Meyer offered Lucas a slice. He accepted it more out of politeness than hunger. At first, the conversation was simple. Where was he from? What did he want to study? He found himself explaining his job at the kindergarten, his gap year, and his excitement and nerves about university. They nodded warmly, listening as if each detail mattered. Then Mrs. Meyer set down her cup and folded her hands. Her expression softened. "Lucas, there's something we should explain. It's important that you understand it before you make a decision." The air in the room seemed to tighten. "We can't have children," she said quietly. "We've tried for years. We've seen doctors and tried treatments, but nothing has worked. The tests confirmed it. I'm sterile." Her voice wavered, but she pressed on. "It's been hard for us. Especially for me." Mr. Meyer reached for her hand and squeezed it. "Since we can't have children of our own, we thought we could open our home to someone who needs it." A student. Someone serious who would become part of the family." Lucas swallowed, unsure what to say. "You would live here," Mrs. Meyer continued gently. "You would have meals with us, support if you have problems, and someone to turn to when things are difficult. We want you to feel cared for." On the surface, it sounded wonderful. Almost too wonderful. But the word demands from the ad echoed in Lucas's head. His throat tightened. Mrs. Meyer hesitated, then spoke more slowly. "I should be honest. Since I was a girl, I've felt drawn to caring for children. It's always been a part of me. Losing the chance to have a baby of my own..." Her eyes glistened. "I've struggled. So, if you lived here, there would be certain conditions." Lucas's stomach knotted. She took a breath. "At night, we want you to sleep in a diaper. You also need to wear a onesie that you can't take off by yourself to keep the diaper in place." She continued, "I know it sounds strange, but I have always dreamed of getting my children ready for bed. It's about creating a feeling of being cared for and nurtured. It's about me being needed and about spending time together." After another pause, she said, "I would love to put your diaper on for you, but that would be crossing the line. However, I can help and guide you if you want. Instead of putting your diaper on, I will zip and fasten your onesie every night and open it again in the morning. That will be our shared ritual." When Mrs. Meyer finished her speech, there was silence. Lucas stared at her and Mr. Meyer, who looked serious but not embarrassed. It was as if they had discussed and agreed on this long before. He was surprised and overwhelmed. They asked him to do something he already did, but they couldn't have known that he wet the bed. He opened his mouth, but closed it again. The truth came out before he could stop it. "I... I already use diapers. At night. Because I wet the bed every night." His cheeks burned as the words came out of his mouth. It wasn't something he had planned to say, but the words came out on their own. Now it was the Meyers' turn to be surprised. They exchanged a puzzled, yet not scornful look. Mrs. Meyer's eyes softened even more. "So it won't be such a big change for you after all." She rose and motioned for him to follow. "Come with me. Let me show you the room." Upstairs, she opened a door to reveal a bright space with a wide window overlooking the garden. A bed stood against one wall and a sturdy desk stood against another. There were also bookshelves and a large closet. Even a cushioned armchair was angled toward the view. "It's beautiful," Lucas admitted as he stepped inside. His voice was soft. "We want you to feel comfortable," Mr. Meyer said. "We want you to feel like this is your home." They spoke more—about their routines, their work, and their hopes for the future. Lucas listened and nodded, but his thoughts spun wildly. Part of him wanted to laugh and bolt back to the station, forgetting this had ever happened. Another part whispered that maybe, just maybe, this was the solution he hadn't dared to hope for. By the time they walked him back downstairs, it was dusk. Mrs. Meyer jingled her car keys. "It's late. I'll drive you to the station." In the car, the city lights flickered past. Lucas stared out the window, his heart heavy with questions. When they reached the station, she smiled gently. "Think about it tonight. Call us tomorrow with your decision." Lucas nodded and gripped the strap of his backpack. "I will." But as he stepped out onto the platform, the weight of decision overwhelmed him. A villa, a room of his own, meals and support—for the price of giving up more privacy than he ever imagined. An unfamiliar woman would dress him in his nightclothes every evening. He watched the taillights disappear into the night and whispered to himself, "What am I supposed to do?" 9

chess Posted September 7, 2025 Author Posted September 7, 2025 Chapter 3: The Decision Lucas woke up the next morning after a restless night. He lay still for a long time, staring at the familiar ceiling of his childhood bedroom while listening to the faint clatter of his mother preparing breakfast downstairs. He thought about his visit to the Meyers the night before. They were nice, but their demands were strange. It felt degrading. He was torn between the freedom that would come with leaving home and the humiliation. Would it even be freedom? The requirement to wear a diaper? It was nothing new. He had lived with it his whole life. For over a decade, he had dutifully put it on every night before bed. Before that, his mother had diapered him. If anything, it was nice that he didn't need to hide his diapers or keep them a secret. It would be nice to have openness about it. Just like now, here in his childhood home. He didn't have to worry about his bedwetting being discovered, his greatest fear if he lived in a dormitory. But the onesie? The requirement that he wear it felt frightening and humiliating. What did it mean that he wouldn't be able to take it off himself? He pictured himself trapped in the clothing like a child, dependent on someone else to help him. It felt like an attack on his personal freedom. He hadn't been unable to dress or undress himself since he was a toddler, and now the thought made his skin prickle. Would they really lock it? No, Mrs. Meyer had mentioned zipping it. But then why had she said he wouldn't be able to remove it? Why couldn't he just unzip it? The uncertainty gnawed at him. On the other hand, though, he never took off his pajamas at night. Why would he? He almost never woke up until morning. So why would it matter? He frowned and pressed his palms together as if weighing the thought in his hands. A onesie itself wasn't necessarily bad. His diaper was often heavy in the morning, sagging uncomfortably when he climbed out of bed. A snug onesie might keep the diaper in place and reduce the annoying leaks that happened from time to time, though thankfully not too often. It could actually help. If only it were his choice! What stung most was not the garment itself, but the rule. The Meyers wanted to take away his decision-making power, treating him as though he were incapable of making the choice himself. As if they didn't trust him to keep his diaper on. He pressed his lips together, caught in the strange space between resentment and reluctant acceptance. Still, he couldn't ignore the rest of the offer: A room in a large villa with meals included for one euro a month was an incredible bargain. It was a lifeline. His parents couldn't afford to help much. If he wanted to study without the constant fear of going broke, he needed this. This offer would erase that worry entirely. He'd be able to focus on his studies instead of juggling a second job and eating instant noodles. The Meyers had also promised support. Although the arrangement sounded strange, it was comforting to know that someone would care how he was doing when he left home for the first time. He sat up in bed and rubbed his eyes. His decision was made. What did he really have to lose? A room of his own with meals included for one euro. He couldn't refuse. He walked over to his desk, sat down, and made the call before he could change his mind. A few seconds later, Mr. Meyer answered the phone. Lucas swallowed hard. "Hello, Mr. Meyer. This is Lucas Andersen." "Ah, Lucas. Good morning. Have you thought about our offer?" "Yes, sir. I would like to accept. Your additional requests were unusual, but I don't think they'll be a problem." His voice dropped. "I already wear protection at night. "I'm glad to hear that. Clara and I had a good impression of you, and we look forward to welcoming you into our home." After hesitating briefly, he continued, "As we discussed, we are looking for a serious student. We expect you to work hard on your studies. Clara and I will support you in any way we can, but you must do your part." Lucas nodded, though the man couldn't see it. "I will. I promise." "I'm an engineer, as I mentioned last night." Mr. Meyer continued, his voice steady and professional. "Most days, I work from home. That means I'll be around if you need help with assignments, time management, or anything else. But it also means I'll notice if you're not keeping up." He said this without threat, simply as fact. Somehow, that made it more reassuring than intimidating. "That sounds good," Lucas said softly. "Excellent! Then let's make arrangements. When does your term begin?" "My last day at the kindergarten is Friday. I start university the following Thursday." "Excellent," said Mr. Meyer. "Let me just check with Clara." After a short pause, he returned. "We can pick you and your things up in our station wagon on Saturday morning if you're interested." Lucas hesitated, then replied, "That would be very kind. But I'd like to bring my bike as well. I want to be able to bike to the university and get around the city." "Of course," Mr. Meyer replied without missing a beat. "We have a bike rack for the car. It's no trouble at all." Relief loosened something tight in Lucas's chest. "Thank you, Mr. Meyer. Really." "You're welcome, Lucas." They ended the call soon after, and Lucas put the phone down. For a moment, the world seemed to stop around him. He'd done it. He'd said yes. He leaned back in his chair and stared at the posters still taped to his walls, the shelf of worn paperbacks, and the closet where he kept his diapers hidden behind some clothes. Soon, all of this would be behind him. Relief swelled in his chest, but it was mixed with unease. He had agreed to something no ordinary student would ever agree to. He had signed up to become part of a family he barely knew and to be bound by rules that still made his skin prickle. And yet, the decision was made. Next Saturday, the Meyers' station wagon would pull up in front of his parents' house. When it drove away, his life would change completely 11

Babypants Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 I hope that Lucas will be as supportive as his hosts. What would it cost him to allow Mrs. Meyer to diaper him? He would be giving up a slight loss of privacy in return for making her incredibly happy. This is how enduring relationships work. My late, second wife loved diapering me, and I was happy to let her do so. My current wife also diapers me; indeed, she refuses to let me do it because I don't get the tapes on to her satisfaction. Certainly the fit is snugger when she does it. Hopefully, Lucas will give this a try. 2
