Camille stood out in the company's bathroom. Her boss Lucy had just called her to her office for a talk about something and she sounded rather serious. after awhile of just standing looking at her reflection, she splashed some water in her face to calm down then headed to Lucy's office and knocked on her office door.

 

Camille: ms. Lucy it´s Camille you wanted to talk

Lucy was sitting behind her desk, waiting for her assistant to enter her office. She had spent the last two hours enduring the furious shouts of her boss, who was enraged over a mistake made by the director's assistant that nearly cost the company a significant amount of money. However, Lucy had managed to mitigate the loss, minimizing the impact. So, the issue was resolved, more or less.

Yet, it wasn't over; now the boss wanted the responsible party to be punished. 
Lucy had no choice but to let Camille go. She felt genuinely sorry because, despite her incompetence, she was a good girl and a kind person. 
When the girl knocked, the manager's expression was somber as she gestured to the chair in front of her desk.
"Please sit down," she said in a sad tone.

worried about what was up based on Lucy's sad voice clearly something was amiss Camille slowly took a seat on the other side of the table. not daring to say a word, she waited for Lucy to speak again but couldn't hide her trembling arms.

Lucy looked deeply into the girl's eyes, filled with regret,
she felt a profound sadness about what she was about to tell her.
"Listen. Here's the situation: The company leaders have made the decision to let you go. I... couldn't do anything about it.
Believe me! I am truly sorry about this, and especially sorry that I have to be the one to tell you."

Camille looked shocked, clearly not understanding what was going on. trying not to cry she said with a trembling voice.

What why? have I not been loyal to you?

"I’m really sorry. This isn’t a decision I made, and I have no control over it; I just have to do the dirty work. It’s really frustrating." Then he took a deep breath. "Listen. You could come work for my girlfriend; she has a small business. She’s looking for someone to help her manage it."

Camille: What kind of shop is it?

 

although clearly still upset Camille was desperate for work so in the end she was willing to take what she could get

Lucy smiles at the fact that the girl was interested in the proposal

"Uhm. Maybe it would be better if you talked to her in person, okay? When we finish the day, I'll take you home and she will explain it to you directly. But in the meantime, I would suggest you resign. I believe that is the best strategy to prevent the company from firing you and also asking for compensation."

Camille: sigh fine I get it I´ll get everything done and see you later ok

Lucy smiled happily because the girl had agreed to hear the idea. She spent the day making calls and signing documents. When the day ended, Lucy left the office. "Have you already signed the resignation?" she kindly asked. "But we can also send it by fax tonight or tomorrow morning," she explained gently. "There's no rush."

Camille didn't look at her as she was still upset and said with a barely hearable voice

 

yes I did I wanted to get it over with and move on

"Alright Camille! Let's head home then" 
The woman said as she picked up her handbag. 
"If I'm not mistaken, you don't have a car, so I'll give you a ride. Shall we?" she asked, leading the girl towards the office exit. 
She calmly guided her to the building's parking lot, opened the car door for her, and invited her to take a seat.

Camille: blushed a bit embarrassed by what she was about to say

 

thank u yeah true I don't have a car I may be the right age to drive one but as you know well my appearance don't match my age and I don't need anyone to make fun of a little girl driving even if she's at the right age

Lucy smiled as she settled into the driver's seat of the car, started the engine, and drove off.

"Of course, I understand, but don't worry. I have no reason to tease you about this; in fact, I find that kind of person extremely annoying," she said, giving her a kind smile as she drove. "So, we haven't talked much, you and I. I would love to get to know you better. Tell me a bit about yourself."

Camille blushed as she thought of what to tell. though she had worked there for some time it was true her and Lucy never talked much outside work.

 

Well you don't know this about me, but I was actually adopted and raised by a lesbian couple. one of them wasn't able to have kids, and the other was a serious man hater. not long into their relationship the two came into contact with the orphanage where I´ve been raised. No I don't know my real mother, story is I was abandoned early because I showed signs of growth problems early on. Part of the reason why I´m not only tiny for a girl in her early 20s  but really my face kinda spells baby looks doesn't it?

The woman had said while looking at the road. Her heart felt very heavy for the girl beside her; after all, she was a very sensitive woman.

"I am very sorry about this." Then she gave her a genuine smile. "But you seem like a very good and sweet girl, you know?"

Camille blushed 

 

thank you and the truth is I genuinely am really nice but my mentality often blows up in pieces and I mess up everywhere I go. honestly I´m not really an adult tbh I never really got my own place either.

"Sai, it's something I noticed on the very first day we met," the woman said with a warm smile. "That's why it would have upset me too much to leave you like that on the street. Tell me, do you like animals?" she asked with a caring smile. "Do you have any?"

no I don´t have any it's not that I don't like them I just don't have the mindset to look after one. btw Lucy where we headed? 

 

Camille tried not to show as she didn't wanna come off as ungrateful, for Lucy's undeserved kindness. But deep inside she was starting to get nervous, and the unpleasant familiar feeling of child breakdowns was starting to creep up on her but she tried to hold it back and stay calm.

"My girlfriend and I have two beautiful dogs. They are two-year-old Maremma shepherds, and I hope you're not afraid of large dogs," Lucy said with a smile. "Now, let's head to my place so you can talk to her and she can explain what your new job will entail. After that, if you'd like, I'll personally take you home," she added with a kind smile.

Camille was shocked by the invite but decided it was best to take her up on it. 

 

well if they're quiet and not too prone to sudden movements like jumping up and such then it's fine with me Lucy but are you sure I won't be of any trouble?

Lucy smiled at the girl "They can be very affectionate and sometimes a bit exuberant, especially with new people. But don't worry because they are good," she explained kindly without taking her eyes off the road. "You see, they just started their training not long ago, but... they still have some trouble obeying. But I repeat... they are good."

Camille:  ok in that case Ithink it should be fine. Well I better let my adoptive mothers know I´ll b home a bit later then usual  

 

Camille then proceeded to call her adoptive mother Marianne who had picked her up the day she was adopted. Sure she was on good terms with both of them, but she felt closer with Marianne.

Lucy smiled at the girl.

"Of course!" Lucy said to the girl with a kind smile. "You can use your cell phone or the home phone if you'd like," she told her while driving towards the outskirts, in the countryside.

"Do you like the countryside?" she asked very gently. "My girlfriend and I love it. It gives us so much privacy and is so peaceful."

i´m more of a city girl tbh, but I don´t mind the country side. Also think I´ll use my cell, since they have my number already calling from a phone they don't know could worry them.  

 

Camille then put in Marianne's number and hoped she would pick up.
