Woke up at 3am with a breath-taking couching attack from acid reflux. Plus thunderstorms. Played some WoW while meds took effect and drank some Ginger Ale and wet my diaper. Hopefully back to bed soon.

I took Prilosec for 40 yrs, and I was up to 40mg a day, I went to a gluten free diet and that took care of my acid reflux,,, I don't have teeth anywhere so my big issue is finding ways to make it chewed up already or soft foods. Gluten has a big thing to do with the acid. I read it messed up the first part of the intestine and after some time with no wheat, or any kind of gluten that will heal up..

My acid felt like a hot coal on my chest, till I made the change ,,

I will have to look into that. I get a lot of gluten every day. I'm at 40mg prilo twice a day. Coincidentally I am in the waiting room for gastroenterology appointment today.

Acid reflux is horrible. If it affects you most in your sleep I suggest trying out a wedge pillow. They've done a lot to help with my problems.

Doing better this afternoon though I have a bit of a sore throat.

Wedge pillow Interesting.

I tried one of those wedge pillows years ago to try and combat my apnea.   For me it didn't work.   Maybe I got one too big but I always felt I was "sliding" down.

I was told to raise the head of the bed two inches or so....  That took care of utilizing a water bed.... <smile>

I've been sleeping in a recliner for years....

I started on the proton pump inhibitors many years ago, before there were any generics.  I think the 2nd of 3 had just been announced.....  Which of the three has depended on which one was preferred by my medical insurance drug plan.  Now I'm the generic of one of the three.

I tried everything, we even spent a Lot of money on an adjustable bed, and I had one of the same issues as another here, I felt like I was sliding down hill, and then back then I slept in my fitted PJ's and it cut off the circulation in my feet, See I had a plastic strong zipper cover on my mattress, and it was slick, so I slid down.... But before I quit gluten complete I never woke up without fire 🔥 on my chest..that was with the meds..

I'm thankful my acid reflux isn't this bad.
If I don't drink or eat anything for hours before bed I manage with just my head high.

Usually I fall asleep on the couch since my head is much higher.

The wedge pillow can help, but not much, it will keep your head higher up so you won't get as much acid up into the throat , I was also told 15 yrs ago after,, I went to USC hospital for testing, that my valve is bad and lets the acid come back up into my throat, I forget all the medical terms , but they did a live Xray video, I still have it, anyhow I saw when I swallowed a drink and seconds later after each one some of it came back up. And the surgery for it was a major one, and it would make it harder for me to swallow afterwards, and since radiation had messed my throat , head, neck all up ,, I didn't need to have more issues, I was choking on food already due to the damage that the radiation caused..

I will say from experience, while your young,, at least cut down on gluten, at least breads, cakes , read labels, anything with wheat flour in it is gluten...I had to let my wife know that one of her favorite things a Candy Redlines,, has wheat in it I had no idea..I mean wheat in candy??

I used to have terrible heartburn.  I was on prilosec for a few years until they discovered I had a hiatal hernia.   I had the surgery to correct that about 30 years ago and have probably had heartburn five times since then.

My age is a lie.

I eat a lot of whole grain wheat bread and never have any problem with that.
Wheat flour is for cakes, not bread.

My acid reflux is mostly under control. I think I may have forgotten to take my pill the other day, and then I ate Nachos lol

We got one of those adjustable bed bases.   Both my wife and I sleep with a slight incline now.    Prior to that , I put a sheet of plywood under our matress and a couple of blocks at the top end to slope the entire matress.

They make gluten free bread, if you read the labels of any regular brad it has wheat flour in it but the gluten free flours I know of are rice , almond, there are a few more but I can't think of them at the moment But regular flour is gluten...

Anyhow I think if you don't have any issues thats very cool, it Amy have to do with your stomach? but it becoming ore common that going gluten free is making better health. My wife is diabetic and she has cut out almost all gluten from her diet and she has dropped her A1C from 12 to 8, and it not because of sugar it the way gluten works in the body....

Cost at least 2x more for everything gluten free in Norway.

oh its bad here, a loaf of bread gluten free is $8 for a loaf half the size of a regular loaf that we can get for $3...Our groceries ave doubled in price and much more of a pain in the ass, we have to bake a lot of our own stuff and freeze it. but my body and my wife diabetic numbers will make us feel better and hopefully live with less crap, we have both been through cancer, I had a half dozen surgeries for mine plus radiation chemo, my wife was a little less Drs than mine, one of my surgery's was 8 hrs long and $100. grand..

The way I see it is pay now or pay later..That's something we all have to decide..I just try to help with the knowledge I have learned the hard way ..

I wish I could've had the surgery, I have the hiatal hernia , had the test to find it etc. But since I had oral cancer yrs before they had found it and chemo radiation, it all did damage to me, from mouth past my neck, they say my problems swallowing good would be much worse with the surgery, so I had to deal with acid as best as I could.. Now its much better since I have gone gluten free all the way, no breads no flour etc.. my acid is maybe once every few weeks mild, beforehand it was multiple times a day.
