Baby possum!

There's a baby possum in our kitchen! Must be a whole somewhere in the pantry or somewhere, Need a humane trap to gather it up.

Raccons outside, possums inside, damn I'm country!

Unfortunately, I mostly encounter them dead on the road, out where I live - apparently, they don't look both ways. I don't mind them, though not inside the house, because they consume pests such as mice and ticks. Hideous but harmless.

Australian wildlife cannot generally be described as “cute” but I’d say our possums are the exception to this rule.

The first time I saw a US “possum” I was completely bewildered.  Was this a joke?  It looked like some kind of nightmare/horror movie parody of what I thought a possum was.

You don’t want an Aussie possum in your kitchen either though: they are destructive whilst panicked and utterly incontinent whilst, well, just always really...

Yep, opossums are good to have around, they are really good guys, taking care of the bad pests we don’t want. Granted, you don’t want to have them move in to the house, and they look menacing, but I think we can get past their looks, for the work they do.
I hope you can convince yours to move outdoors DailyDi.

I ordered a humane trap to try and safely catch him and let him out outside. Then I have to clean out the pantry and find/fill the hole.

Cute maybe, but killers of our native birds... over here the best possum is a dead possum!

No luck with the trap so far, but I also haven't seen him/her so maybe it found its way back out. Have gap-filler expanding foam coming tomorrow and will clean out the pantry to find/fill the hole it came in through.

I saw a 'possum last night. It was crossing the road in the middle of the city (pop 100,000).

I wonder if it headed to its lodge.

Years ago we had noise in our attic and new something was getting in.  Borrowed a live cage trap from my uncle, baited it with an apple and peanut butter and waited.  Access to the unfinished attic is via a ladder in the garage.  After days of not catching anything, I moved the trap closer to the ladder.  Had no idea what it was, but the next morning as I started to climb the ladder, I heard such a racket and new I had caught the culprit.  Turned out to be a very upset red squirrel.  We took the trap about 5 miles away and let it out in the woods.  I think my dad wanted to keep it as a pet!

In our old house we had a possum come in through the cat doors and was eating from the food bowls.   The kids through a laundry basket over it and dragged it outside.

Now I have electronic cat doors to keep interlopers out (even other cats that aren't mine).

That had to be rather startling to encounter first thing in the morning!

Should be in the freezer, not the pantry...

I had an aunt who lived in Arkansas and per my mom, she used to eat road kill possum.  My mom thinks that has something to do with her passing away in 1967.
