Rearz US Shipping is back!

I know there was some animosity expressed over this - some had expressed thoughts that their withdrawal was somehow politically motivated, but speaking generally, a number of Canadian firms experienced huge customer backlash over unexpected levies and tariffs that were applied to orders on arrival, and these were on-again, off-again - it was (and is) a very difficult landscape to navigate. No, or very few, Canadian firms would elect not to sell to the US as some kind of retribution or political statement - it's a market 10 X the size of ours. Rearz, and many other companies, had to rejig their sales interfaces, to allow for customers to make an informed choice on what their purchase was going to cost them, in total, up front, including taxes imposed by their own governments, so that suppliers weren't enraging customers and facing returns and declined deliveries all over the place, when the courier showed up with a tax bill that was more than the product was worth. These kinds of infrastructure changes take time, and have to be executed carefully. I'm glad they've sorted it out, and I hope they remain healthy, as a company, so that we have lots of options, and more price competition, on the market.

Now, if only Bambino would come back to Canada... sigh.

I'm glad they are able to ship to the USA again, and hopefully at some point the tariffs will be lifted.

Yah but a 70 buck shipping fee for a case of diapers is kinda extreame

That’s the tariffs. Nothing they can do about it. Up to Trump/China to resolve it.

Oh I know, but, it puts stuff up and out of price range. So been waiting for the v2 us made stuff from northshore to give it a try when they get my size

I still have a bag of Active Air diapers but for now I'm using this as a chance to try other cloth backed diapers. I think Northshore has some? For plastic backed diapers I'm sticking with the Megamax and the Sunkiss from Amazon in pink. I do miss the adorable Rearz prints like their mermaids and alpacas and safari (perfect for a trip to the zoo! And absorbent enough usually no need for a diaper change or visiting the public toilets)

Their AirSupreme's - not a bad product. Active Air's are one of my main go-to's for a quiet, reliable daytime diaper, but I tried a case of AirSupreme's a couple of years ago, and I found them to be pretty comparable product. They were reliable and punched above their weight, in terms of capacity. The tabs aren't quite as tenacious as they are on the Rearz, but they worked. Ironically, up here in the frozen (now thawing) North, we have the opposite problem, and it's not tariff-related, so much as exchange-related: I love NorthShore's MegaMax, but up here, they cost $5 (CAD) a diaper. The AirSupreme's are $4.50 each, whereas I can get Active Air's, when they're on sale (such as now), for around $2.20 CAD a diaper. So I have my stash of MegaMax's, but I only wear them on special occasions. I treasure them, in particular, because I still fit in a medium, whereas in most Rearz products, I fit best in an XL... (wipes tear...)

I'm definitely not an expert on this, but from what I can tell the tariffs on goods imported from Canada to US are 25%.  Incontrol is charging ~54% for shipping/duties/export fees, but the shipping is free over $100, so I don't understand what the extra 29% is for.

I'm glad I stocked up a month ago, but I'll be buying betterdrys until the tariff situation is sorted, especially with mystery extra charges added on top of tariffs.

Edit: I just read the linked blog post, it seems the diapers are subject to a 30% tariff since they're made in China, plus a $27 'FDA surcharge'. Adult diapers don't require FDA approval, but perhaps registration.  Regardless it should be a fixed cost (registration is $7k per year for the entire business, not per product) rather than a per item charge. At $27, they'll pay for registration with less than 300 orders.
