hendrik Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 I am wondering if more people experience the same: When I have the flu I tend to produce more urine. So I use more diapers per day. I have asked around sometimes but people always thnk I am weird when asking such a question. 2
CodHero24 Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 It makes sense, your body is trying to get rid of the germs making you sick, hence the increased urine production. Also, (when you're sick) people tell you to drink more fluids, which leads to a wet diaper. It's amazing how comforting a diaper can be when you're suffering from a flu, or a sprained leg, etc. Not having to get up and stumble to the bathroom in the middle of the night is a godsend. 1
Cute_Kitten Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 That makes sense. And having a sudden bout of diarrhea is better in a diaper than in underwear! 1
willnotwill Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 I wore a diaper during colonoscopy prep all the way up to the point where the put me on the table to take me into the procedure. 1
DailyDi Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 I always wet more when I am sick, fr the reason others have stated.

I had no issue from the nurse or Dr. wearing my diaper into my colonoscopy. Personally it still is embarrassing when the nurse was prepping me for the procedure, and told me to not worry about the diaper since they would just removed the tabs for the procedure. I know that the Dr. did see my diaper as well as the nurse, but that is something I am use to happening. I did wake up in a different diaper and asked then nurse why, and she said that I wet as I was waking up, and they put me into one of the diapers they keep in supplies since this was actually fairly common. 2
BabyBoi91 Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 So, I had two thoughts: 1) one of my first bedwetting episodes as an adult happened when I had the flu. I had a fever, felt miserable (put a diaper on), and was in bed. It hurt to move I was so achey and I remember falling asleep thinking “I don’t even care if I wet the bed, I just want to sleep”—sure enough I woke up soaked. I think my body was just exhausted from the fever. 2) urine output is heavily determined by fluid intake. And yeah, many people drink more fluids (or at least should usually when febrile) when sick. Also, if you suddenly stopped eating a lot of super salty foods, that would cause a “diuresis.” for example, after eating a takeout Chinese food, there’s enough salt for someone to gain about 2-3 kg of water weight (assuming they don’t usually eat a high salt diet), but that water weight leaves when daily salt intake is lowered.

Cause of increased fluids, feeling lousy and weak. Those are 24/7 times. I curl up on the couch diaper, t-shirt and pacifier wrapped up in a blanket
zzzz50 Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 I generally don’t have problems during the day however when I had COVID last year I was basically urine incontinent with a couple of poop accidents. It cleared up after about 3 days, fortunately because of my bedwetting I had plenty of diapers to handle issues. I asked my urologist if anyone else reported having incontinence issues due to COVID and he said he did have several reports of increased urine control issues and had many more reports of not being able to go at all. This was a much bigger issue as it meant intervention by medical professionals. It is hard to find much medical information on increased incontinence for COVID and I suspect the same for traditional flu as many would be reticent to report. Fortunately I have not had the flu for over 30 years so I don’t have any first hand knowledge and yes I get a flu shot every year. 1
wetmonkey Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 I definitely have more incontinence issues when I'm sick, flu or cold and when I had COVID. In all these situations it happened most of all when napping or sleeping where I experienced a massive loss of urine and wet without ever waking up. I often wear a very high capacity diaper so I can try to get as much sleep as possible, usually the thing that gets me better faster. I've heard of friends having accidents when they were really sick, I never suggest diapers as it is usually a short term thing but someday if I open up more about my bed wetting and incontinence I might offer a sample to a friend who is sick. 1
Greg03 Posted January 9, 2025 Posted January 9, 2025 It’s definitely a thing. My usual supplier is always low on stock during flu season particularly on pull ups, which are much more acceptable to the average person than adult diapers are. ive been saying for years that we underestimate just how much incontinence issues there are out there. You just need to look at the huge range of products there are now. Someone is buying them. i think stress wetters are very common. People who bed wet when their body is under physical or emotional stress. I know of 2 guys, both mid 30s who fall into that category
