Guide to achieving bed wetting

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, In December of 22 I set out to become a bed wetter. This past month, June of 2024, I wet the bed 26 out of 30 days, and 21 of those days I did not wake up at all until my alarm went off. I used some pretty extreme techniques to achieve my goal and wanted to share with those either on the journey or setting out.

First a disclaimer, I am not a doctor, I HIGHLY recommend you weigh the pro's vs con's. While it may not be impossible to reverse adult bed wetting, it can be extremely hard. Keep in mind, any time you fall asleep anywhere you are liable to wet. Coming into this goal I am/was not an AB/DL but someone who had trouble falling alseep after getting up to pee every night. Since becoming a bed wetter I have noticed much improved sleep quality, and energy throughout the day. This was my motivation to do it and I couldn't be happier.

Now that we have that all out of the way and you are committed , it's time to get to training. I'll leave a list of supplies I use at the bottom if anyone is interested.

  1. Get comfortable using diapers if you are not already. Also start logging your dates with a calendar or spreadsheet so you can track your progress over the months.

  2.  Next is getting comfortable peeing while laying down. If you are a side sleeper, work peeing on both sides. I did this in a bathtub at first just to save on mess. No diaper needed (unless you want to of course) but any time you need to go, lay in the tub and start getting used to peeing that way. If you are unable to pee lying down, start by sitting down with your back against the wall of the tub, then as you get more comfortable peeing in that position slowly start inching into a more reclined position until you get comfortable peeing fully lying down. You can also work on this step in the bed but it will require more cleanup.

  3. Make sure your mattress is well protected. Use plastic covers under your sheets and plastic pants are recommended. Every time you go to bed now you must wear a diaper. It will probably be uncomfortable the first few nights, but once you get used to it, it gets much easier.

  4. Now that your mattress is protected, you can pee in any position it's time to transfer your training to your bed. Your bed is your go to place to pee. Any time you are home and need to pee forget about the toilet. It's time to go lay down in bed and urinate. You can do this with a diaper and plastic pants or not.  I would often even do this without a diaper on. Just strip down, lay down, and pee. This may take a while to get used to, but you are going to be doing it every night in your sleep. If you are having a mental block peeing while in bed, the start by standing on your bed and peeing, then working your way down to sitting and start reclining like you did in the shower/tub until you are comfortable in bed peeing.

4a. Whenever you have the time during the day, after you pee in the bed hang out there for a while. 10 minutes, an hour, whatever time you have of laying in the wet bed. It will eventually get cold and that's good. Watch youtube, TV, anything really to pass the time. The goal here is to get use to being in a wet bed, this will hopefully help your body become accustom to it and keep you asleep when you pee overnight as opposed to waking up.

    - At this stage this also means overnight. If you wake up to pee. Try to just soak your diaper and return to sleep. If you are unable at this point, it's okay to put a fresh diaper on for the sake of getting back to sleep for now.

Stay motivated. This is a long term goal, and if bed wetting is what you really desire I think following these steps will get you there. These are the steps I have done and it's worked wonders.

That's pretty much it. These are the things that I found most helpful especially doing over time and especially once I started just using the bed instead of a toilet to pee really sped up my progression. A few other trips that some have found success doing:

  • Going to bed with your diaper slightly wet, even if it means just putting a bit of water in it to make it damp.
  • Trying to keep your mind off bed wetting. I found thinking about bed wetting before bed constantly would keep me up and ensure I wouldn't wet the bed. Making putting on the diaper and plastic pants a habit like anything else is key.

Not caring what anyone else thinks. You won't be able to hide it. Between the diapers, extremely frequent laundry and inevitable smell pretty much anyone who enters your bedroom will know about your bed wetting.

List of items that I use nightly.

- Diapers: My preferred overnight diapers
- Plastic/Terry lined pants: Terry lined adult diaper pants
- Mattress Protector:  Mattress Protector

Hope this helps. A big thanks to @stevewet and @oznl as well as the many others who provided support and tips throughout my journey

Doing all home peeing in bed is a novel idea I had not heard before.  Like it.  Took me several years to reach the level of bedwetting you’ve achieved in 18 months.  Got to believe “home peeing in bed” would have accelerated my progress.

Whatever, your June results are impressive, thanks for sharing and hope for further "news" in the future.

Great! So nice that you have achieved this. Did this also affect your daytime continence? Or is it really just bedwetting while asleep?

I believe it does.

When your bladder begins to constantly start emptying itself during the night,

the bladder will begin to shrink slightly,

which in turn will lead to needing to be emptied more often throughout the day.

Thanks!

I didn't keep logs of anything before I started this, I do notice I pee quiet often during the day though. probably a good 6-8 times per day atleast. However I don't know how that stacks up with before becoming a bed wetter. I haven't had any day time accidents. I pee in the bed 3-6 times per day (depending if I go to the office or not) not counting overnight.

I do have 5 sets of the same mattress protector and cheap sheets from Walmart. I cannot state enough how much that mattress protector is worth in saving your mattress. I looked yesterday, 0 stains on my mattress even though I have wet on that thing consistently day and night.

Thanks! I'll keep sharing as I continue on this journey. So far in July, 3 nights, 3 wet diapers in the morning 🙂.

I honestly think at least one large pee stain on your matter as is a great permanent reminder you are a bedwetter.

Looks like your a young guy. Wait until you get older and you might find yourself having accidents during the day. I dont worry about bedwetting. It happens but is fairly easy to manage. Daytime wetting takes a lot more effort to hide. I cant count the number of times I've lost bladder control. Sometimes I dont even realize Im going until I notice that Im wet down there.

You’re new to the game, give it some time.  My daytime control has/is declining which I suspect is an offshoot of urinating at will during the night.  Few years ago I could hold for hours.  Now I have to pee very hour or two and when the urge arises there’s little time before it overpowers me (accident).  Not complaining, just stating the facts as they are for me.

Couple years ago I too started having accidents during the day.  Not full out pants wettings, but enough that it was noticeable (to me anyway).  To combat I limited fluids and never passed a bathroom without emptying my bladder.  This helped but didn’t solve the problem.  So I now somewhat reluctantly wear minimal protection (Goodnite) during the day.  Most days, even weeks, it’s not used.  But the Goodnite is a godsend when I absolutely can't hold it plus I’m more relaxed and confident away from home.

So far not during the day, but I regularly experience your “not realizing” at night.  Before going to sleep, awake during the night or especially in the morning with no action on my part I’ll sense spreading wetness in my diaper.  Swear I haven’t consciously released yet I’m urinating.  It’s no wonder I wet in my sleep!

Not caring what others think is very important. I wet the bed so what! Is my attitude. No one entering my bedroom would be any doubt and that is how I like it. I don't go around broadcasting it but I make no effort to hide it either.

I did very similar when i was in training to.   Always laid down when i needed to pee even on the floor.   Getting you body conditioned 000peeing why laying down is the key to bedwetting

Just wanted to update this topic as well. It's a cut and paste from my other topic. Going to stop updating that one but wanted the stats out there should anyone else be on the journey and finds this thread.

So a few updates starting with statistics.

It appears I didn't update for July so here were my July stats:

  •  23/31 days woke up with a wet bed and don't recall waking up to pee.
  •  4 other nights woke up realizing I was wetting. Was able to fall back asleep (somehow!) in the wet bed. This before starting training would have never happened.
  •  4 completely dry nights. No indications of all of a wet diaper, not even really needed to pee in the morning. Just dry nights which I'm good with as it didn't interrupt my sleep.
  • Spent 3 nights in a hotel in July. 3 soaked diapers and one night sheets! By far my most embarrassing night yet. Thankfully the hotel had mattress protectors. I just requested no house keeping, picked up fresh sheets from the front desk and left the old one in the hall. They were gone within a few hours.

And for August:

  •  25/31 nights soaked without waking up. No recollection of waking up to pee either.
  • 3 nights waking up wetting. One night was not able to return to sleep easily.
  • 3 completely dry nights.

I no longer pee in the bed during the day time. I stopped this some time ago to cut down on laundry and free up more of my time. If I feel my progress has slipped I will go back to it but I don't think at this point that's going to be an issue. To say I'm past the point of no return is an understatement at this point. No daytime accidents to note.

This has all been my experience, has anyone else tried the extreme training methods I used to get to this point? Hoping others are able to share in the success!

That’s fantastic news!!  I also track progress too. Granted my night time wearing is sporadic at best.

It’s funny, during the day I practice wetting in bed a lot. I’m great at it, no issues, a little/a lot doesn’t matter. But once the sun goes down it’s extremely difficult to let go. 😭 It’s like I’m a reverse vampire.

@SoakedSheets I asked this a while back in your training but I’m curious if you’ve tested yet: do you wet when napping like in a chair/couch or on a plane? My end goal is to wet whenever asleep regardless of the time of day or what I’m wearing.

This actually happened in September!

Here's the September update:

September stats:

  • 22/30 nights with a wet bed
  • 5 dry nights
  • 3 nights did I wake up needing to pee. Was able to quickly use the diaper and fall back asleep no issues. Interestingly enough it was 3 days together. September Sep 15-17. Not sure why

One other incident happened where I fell asleep on the unprotected sofa during the day in just pants and underwear 😰. Got up about 2 hours after falling asleep to a soaked sofa. Was pretty unhappy about that but it was my fault for not going to the bed before falling asleep. Thankfully baking soda and vinegar spray seems to have made sure there is no smell and the stain really isn't really noticeable.

That's it for September update. Until next month!
