How incontinence started in your case?

I am autistic and on top of that a small bladder, so it's been most of my life. for some reason I am annoyed with some of the stuff from people that seem to think you have to do everything "scientifically" possible to never wear a diaper or that adult diapers should not exist and on and on, I want to live in a fantasy world too where a utopia is possible for everyone. Needless to say, the only way out of wearing a diaper is to have extra holes added to my body.

Mine started in 1996 as the result of a bad car crash. I had spinal damage at L5-S1, which was initially missed due to the severity of my other injuries and 3 months of having a cathater. I started with severe urge incontinence, and it only got worse since then.

Mine was very similar to you Slomo. I was on my motorbike and got t-boned by a car that failed to give way. Mine was L4-L5 and S1, they had me on a catheter for months with severe urge incontinence and because of the massive amount of pain killers making me constipated, I wasn't aware that id end up in nappies. In the end have loss of motor function with my bladder and bowels.

I wasn't exactly sure about the permanence of things and yeah, there was so much going on same here, because of the severity of my injuries, dealing with severe nerve pain I wasn't fully aware for months that I was permanently fully incontinent. This was in 2018 for me.

Its hard to describe what it was like already being a fully healthy DL until age of 28 and suddenly becoming completely nappy dependant that's for sure lol

Yup. The same for me as well. On one hand I was secretly thrilled I got to start wearing diapers all the time. On the other hand, the injiries, pain, complications, etc. that came with it was decidedly not welcomed.

But to make things even worse, I made myself wonder how much of my new need for diapers was true necessity, and how much of it was a made up excuse just so I could wear them. I actually fought with my physical need for them, for years.

Eventually I realized I wanted them, AND I needed them. That wasn't a conflict of interest versus need. It was a team up. That was a little under 30 uears ago, and I've embraced them ever since.

I think about this a lot. I consider my day wetting and bed wetting to be 2 different things.

Bedwetting runs in my family and I’ve been a lifelong bedwetter. My dad is also a lifelong bedwetter, although I wasn’t aware of that until I was an adult. He suffered a lot of emotional trauma from attempts to cure his bedwetter and as a result, my parents took a different approach with me. They just didn’t toilet train me, which makes them sound really neglectful but they weren’t. There just wasn’t any pressure to get out of diapers, I was allowed to go at my own pace. I was in diapers full time until I was 8, then for a few years afterwards, I was in a sort of toilet training phase where I’d still need a pull up for certain situations. At night I was very comfortable being in diapers and I still am.

My daytime situation is more interesting. Previously if you’d asked me, I’d have said I was day dry from age 12, until about 10 years ago. But looking more closely, I’m not actually sure that was the case. I still needed pull ups in any new or stressful situation. Around 10 years ago, my already limited daytime continence began to slowly decline. So slowly that I didn’t really notice what my new normal had become. It started off with frequent small accidents. Basically I was never actually making it to the bathroom in time and my underwear was constantly damp because I was starting to go too early. I started wearing a guard when out and a pull up at home, so I didn’t have to change as frequently.

Overtime I began to pee in my pull up when relaxing in the evening, mainly from laziness and convenience. My body became used to it and I’d have to concentrate hard to hold it in. Things like going to a movie, or a longer drive became impossible without being padded. Gradually I was spending more and more of my day in pull ups including both my morning and evening commute. The realisation moment came when one evening I arrived home and knowing my pull up was already pretty saturated, I tried to hold my pee as I was getting out of the car. But I couldn’t.

The day after, I decided to opt for a proper diaper and it was such a huge relief. Since that day, I haven’t looked back. I don’t flaunt it, but I’m comfortable with it being obvious that I wear diapers. If you visit our home, it’s obvious that my wife and I use diapers. I wear thick diapers all the time as that’s what is most convenient for me. At times that means a visible diaper bulge. I’m fortunate that because I’ve always worn at night, my family and most of my friends already know I have diapers. Because people know, I get a surprising amount of people ask me incontinence related things. It’s wayyyy more common than I could ever have imagined. A few years ago, I asked at my gym could a hygiene bin be installed in the male changing room for diaper disposal. It’s very well used and definitely not just me.
