Plastic bag?  You were lucky.

We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down the mill for fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep with his belt.

Sometimes I wish I had plastic bags, but since the reusable bag craze, I have none..
Plastic bags cost 20 cents and a reusable cost a dollar, but I got 2 for free and 2 for 40 cents each

Never paid for a paper newspaper, only digital one on sale

Only pay for 1 streamer service at one time

I rarely eat a proper dinner, mostly bread, cause I'm lazy and cause dinner every day cost more than bread

I usually only use plastic when i buy too many groceries and have to hang them on the canes ,i jave a giant big shopping bag hanfing on the back of my chair . About 8 years ago I got an entire case of Wal-Mart bags given to me ,I use them to dispose of diapers when traveling , I still have a gazillion of them crammed in my diaper bags.

I am a sales shopper I plan what I am eating based on what's in season ,fresh or free , I have about 80 pounds of meat in the freezer from BOGO sales on meat , I stick to a food buffet of 5,00 a day for meals ,I can't eat alot of bread or carbohydrates due to being allergic to eggs and insulin dependent diabetes , the money I save by sale shopping allows me to eat well and always have extra on hand ,I.,ilook at the sales ,plan a menu ,and then shop for those items to make meals .

I buy all my spices in institutional quantity and repackage into smaller bottles for my spice rack ,the rest gets vacuum sealed and pig in the closet , my mother taught me well ,I can see her smiling in heaven when I blame her for any success in life . All you younger guys learn to cook chicks dig it and you'll never starve as a bachelor .

You can afford newspapers?  ?

And around here, that plastic bag would have cost you 5 cents.

is that from an episode or something doctored up for this board? if from a real episode, which one?

Not younger than you (I've got a baby brother a year older than you) but I made saffron rice for the first time on Saturday night.  I know, you can't have it because of the carbs, and the saffron component is quite expensive, but it was soooo good and for my first time making it, I was really surprised at how good it was.

Also, I didn't buy the saffron for the saffron rice.  I had it and the basmati rice leftover from an Indian biryani rice recipe I tried to make the week before (which wasn't very good).

Meat doesn't last forever in the freezer, just in case you didn't know, which a lot of people don't

I like rice, but I can't cook rice..

Thinking about getting a rice cooker, or at least getting one for my birthday

Try it sometime - it's easy with a pot with a good tight-fitting lid.

Cooking long-grain white-rice is 1 part rice to 2 parts water by volume.

  • Rinse the rice several times until the water runs relatively clear then drain well
  • Put the rice into the pot with the correct amount of water (1 cup rice, 2 cups water)
  • Bring to a boil, stir once then place the tight-fitting lid on it and turn down to low
  • Set a timer for 20 minutes and *WALK AWAY* - do not touch the pan until 20 minutes has passed
  • When the timer goes off, remove from heat and fluff with a fork.  You now have cooked rice

I love saffron ,I have on occasion made saffron rice with alot of protein to try and balance the blood sugar. Yes meat doesn't last forever ,when I get it home ,I repackage it for the freezer with the time and date and put it on the dry erase board also ,that way I can look at the board and find and use the oldest first ,I know exactly how much of everything is in there ?

I used to rain a restaurant and catering business so I am a freak about food safety, holding temperatures and cleanliness, etc I have never positioned anyone including myselfl ,!`# don't have plans to start now )

Even the best olive oil will go rancid if stored wrong or long ..

the only thing easier than rice is toast, rice is easy, at least if you get the boil in bag kind or the instant rice, with boil in bag you bring the water to boil, drop the bag in , wait 10 minutes and its done, instant all you do is bring the water to a boil, turn off the heat, drop in however much you want(what you want on the plate, cut in half because it doubles in size), 5 minutes later scoop it out and eat, easy.

Boil in bag rice is meh!

The rice other people make just taste so much better, and specially the one made in a rice cooker (My brothers wife is Thai)

Again, I urge you to try it yourself with either basmati or long-grain white rice, if you have a pot with a tight fitting lid you can cook it in.  Sooo very easy and so tasty with a little butter on it (or cream/milk and sugar if you prefer it as a hot breakfast cereal -- yech!).

I live in Australia. Prescriptions are about $30 and after about $1500 per year are either free or a few dollars. ANd what is covered by the prescription scheme is almost everything. Epipens are $30. A friend's child suffers from chronic shortness (a boy likely to be under five foot as an adult). He has gone onto an expensive set of daily injections of growth hormones. it is $6000/month and will be needed for 6 years - about $425000 in all. But here, it costs just $30/month. The best news is that it is working and has added 2 inches in 2 months (he is 13)
The american health system is the worst in the western world. The #1 reason for bankruptcy in USA is medical bills. IN Australia, almost nobody has that problem.
My two hospital stays this year totalling 14 days cost $70,000. I paid... nothing. Our medical system has man, many problems, but it looks like heaven compared to most others.
Maybe you guys might want to move over here. And as an added bonus, our politicians are only morons, not criminals, traitors and money-grubbing scumbags.

There’s a reason why the best doctors in the World are in the US and it’s because they get paid well. The United States has the lowest infant mortality rate in the world for a reason. There’s a reason why Canadian politicians get operations done in the US instead of the health care system they created themselves. That is due to it being the best healthcare system in the world, and people pay for costs as they should with medical insurance instead of price fixing medications and leaving scraps for the companies that created them.

And our GOP senators get there ass beat by a neighbor go to Canadian hospital to ficc them up, so they scream socialism like it's the plague and then quietlyv embrace it. But that's the difference between politicians and Americans ,Politicians will use anything to get ahead ,as long as it doesn't offer everday Americans advancement opportunity .

When I make rice for friends as part of a meal i like to use coconut milk and various spices ,or I use wine and stock , as far as breakfast I do spoil myself sometimes with Farina, bene eating it since I was in diapers the first time. I buy fresh cranberries when in season and freeze them ,I make a fresh cranberrty ketchup with splenda to rat with it and oatmeal sometimes I add cream cheese and a little sour cream .

When i cook for my pharmacist he loves mushroom risotto with stuffed poekchops .

Its nice to be gullible and blind

Of the 27 most developed countries, the U.S. has the highest Infant Mortality Rate, despite spending much more on health care per capita
Across the U.S., infant mortality rates for full-term babies were 50 percent to 200 percent higher than in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland, the study found.
At the state level, infant mortality rates ranged from 6.45 deaths for every 5,000 full-term births in Connecticut to nearly 19 deaths for every 5,000 in Mississippi.
Every state was worse than the six European countries in the analysis, which had an infant mortality rate of slightly over 6 deaths for every 5,000 full-term births.

It’s generally considered to be Germany. In second place is the USA. However that second place has a lot to do with doctors from other countries practicing in the US because they can make a lot more money there. It’s the most expensive healthcare system on earth.

I make plenty of money to have really good insurance and afford the deductible and copays. Even with that, I still find myself paying out of pocket for things they won't cover for reasons, including $20000 for dental work. I think with the current health insurance system in the US, it is easy to see why so many go bankrupt over health care costs even with insurance, but the risk is much greater without insurance.

I am financially literate and I understand Bernie Sanders's plan would be expensive (more taxes for sure for everyone), but it is expensive now. So I put in an early vote for Bernie.

That said, there is personal accountability here that I recommend that I know 70% of you people out there that don't or can't do. Statistically speaking, that is the number of people in the US that cannot handle a $1000 emergency. You have to have that fully funded emergency plan. I flat out refuse to take out loans to pay for stuff, especially medical bills, so I keep $20000 in savings for emergencies. Of course, this can't be done if you have more money coming out then in, so make sure you trim done the amount of payments you have on stuff and/or increasing your income. Moving out of California is a good first step if you really need to trim your expenses, lol.

The US also has a much higher standard for Supra metrics because in some European countries the babies that do not survive are not always considered lives lost.

IN Australa - like every other western country - no one goes bankrupt for medical bills. Plenty of things to complain about with our health system but it would look like nirvana to an american. Epipens for example... $30 compared to $600 in the US. Prescription medication capped at $1500/yr And before you comment otherwise, the australian level of hospital care is every bit as good as the best US hospitals but at a quarter the price and in a public hospital, at zero cost. We opted for additional private health cover that gives us a lot of extras. My two hospital stays in the last year cost around $60,000 of which we paid NOTHING.

I really dont understand any american opposing a health system that allows its citizens to not die from easily treatable illnesses. We can all see thousands dying from coronavirus over there because people cant afford the tests or treatment.

Sometimes, you are your own worst enemy.
