Opinions on Privacy?

Recommended Posts

most information is already public record, from mothers maiden name, address, and even phone number. theres little pesonal "private" information except for bank account numbers, SSN, and any passwords you create, even then account information can be shared by the host you create the account with anyway.

which is why the only "secure" online method is a new account + log in on every single application. difficult to remember sure, but thats why you delete or deactivate ones you dont regularly use.

windows 10 is super guilty of telemetry, you can still salvage it by ripping all of it out with homebrew programing or 3rd party applications if you trust them. linux is gaining ground and i hope one day its as user friendly as windows.

as for online browsing you need to use tor or vpn. ive been leaning towards tor just because its easier for me and built into my web browser and ive begun using it for general and stupid things like "how long to air fry french fries" or "youtube song name here" not even stuff worthy of putting on tor, only because i believe my ISP is logging everything i do, if only for advertisment purposes.

privacy is a given and its been encroached on for far too long. i will utilize every privacy tool at my disposal just to stick it to whoever is prying.

as for public privacy smile for the camera! sattelites have already been taking your pictures since the 80's/90's now its street cameras. currently theres no reason to store facial data and advertisers havent figured out how to use it, but you can be certain the government has access to any internet enabled device at any given time. the only saving grace here is that video data is storage intensive so it wont be collected indefinitely. my moto here is dont do anything that would cause someone to start looking into you. unfortunately ski masks in public are only worn by criminals and i cant just wear a mask to spite the government without "enciting the public, or causing a scene, must follow police instruction no matter what"

Hello All:

I am pretty careful when it comes to what I do online, as my late Friend David taught me that "'whatever you post, be CAREFUL, because once you post it, it is hard to undo it.'"

I always try to use sites that have a LOCK in the address bar, and all my sites I own have the LOCK there, cause they have been switched to https - any site that is NOT https usually forwards to it.  I also learned that FTP/telnet/rlogin and most other earlier access protocols are INSECURE and have depreciated.  Most of my online access to machines I connect to use the ssh protocol - I learned this a few years ago, and since then, when connected to my machines, I use the ssh protocol - The cool thing about ssh is that it also covers the Secure FTP (sftp) end of it, so you can transfer files or information encrrypted.

I also am careful, because REGARDLESS of how much security you have in place, there are idiots that try to break through - you HAVE to assume that someone is always aware of what you are doing, but as long as you take precautions, you should be OK - Some people who call me will tell me something is wrong, and I will ask them, and then figure out that they have a virus/spyware/malware/ransomware, and then find out that they went to a dodgy site - Most of the problems I find are because people are not as computer Savvy, so they get stuck somewhere, and the signs are there: junk popups on screen, fake virus alerts, and of course, the porn sites:  Most of this caused by someone who is asked to click on something, saying that they will win a "switch/ps3/ps4/xbox/DS, etc.

Regardless of how safe you think you are, you can always get caught off guard - Had to clean a few "baddies" off machines in the past, and TRUST me, what a headache - @kasarberang - Use your best judgement on what you decide to do to keep yourself and your family safe - most of what you do is common sense - Like not leaving the "keys to the kingdom" where unauthorized people who don't have a reason to use them, can do so, and access things that are none of their business ?

I wouldn't lose sleep my friend - Just use common security measures to protect your data, and I would back it up from time to time, in case something happens - has saved me a lot of hardships :)

Brian

I think your smart! The world is a very messed up place especially the slow errosion of basic rights. Google is definitely not your friend when it comes to privacy. And Bill Gates is very creepy monkey that should not be trusted with your privacy. Anyway people like us might look crazy now but eventually you will be considered ahead of your time! And you might be the few people that survive from the 1984 apocalypse!
