This is a spin off of a thread about potty training.  The picture is of a patent for straps to hold a child on the toilet for potty training.  But as I thought about this, I had the realization of why the cuffs for the wrists (item# 11).  Item# 5 is to attach the belts to the toilet and item# 10 is to hold the child by the thighs, securing them in place, but why item#11.  From my early child hood late 1940s and 1950s when getting caught playing with your private parts, I was punished.  Does anyone else have similar memories of getting caught?

A further object of my invention is to provide a cuff on the belt in which the childs hands may be placed to restrain movement of the hands and prevent him from playing with adjacent articles or disarranging his clothing and permit suificient movement so that he may play with a toy.

And maybe they may have been too tactful to mention what was disgusting in 1942.  They wouldn't use the word pregnant in polite company.  And yes I guessed as to the unwritten message.  So I did extend things like disarrange clothing to what wasn't there in print.

This disarranging clothing part doesn’t make much sense to me. Perhaps they were worried the kid would get waste on them, but other than that, could the kid not disarrange his clothing the 23.5 hours a day he wasn’t strapped into this thing? Let’s face it: parenting when it came to toilet habits, corporal punishment and sex was  beyond fucked up before the last 30 years or so. Not that there weren’t plenty of good parents, but the norms were atrocious.

To answer your question, I hit puberty around 2000 and spent enough time in the bathroom that the parents had to know what I was doing. My mom found a victoria’s Secret catalogue under my bed, and my dad casually said it’s normal for someone my age to have something like that.

As far as I can remember, that was the last mention ever made of masturbation unless you count the time I was leaving for college and my mom said, at the dinner table, to make sure there was no “boy stuff” in there when I left. Which I found interesting because she found my diaper porn on a number of occasions and never said a word about it. But at the dinner table, yeah, that was embarrassing.
