How many wear for need, versus purely abdl reasons?

I don't need them for medical reasons, but I don't think I'd be very stable if I didn't have them once in a while.  They are a huge form of stress relief.  Sort of like... a detox or something.  So I marked Need - mental/emotional!  Thanks for including that as an option! :D

I've always bed in diapers at night for bedwetting. After wearing diapers at night for so long I actually don't feel comfortable not being in diapers during the day but I am able to make it most days without wetting during the day. If I'm doing on a long car ride or know I'm going to be far from a bathroom, then I'm diapered. Oh yeah, and if I'm sick or something. Every time I get the slightest cold I can't help myself. It seems like I wet all the time.

I wouldn't say I need to wear diapers but after wearing for several years if I'm not diapered for bed there's a good chance I'll wake up in a wet bed

I grew up with a tiny over-active bladder, so my Mom nicely asked me to wear 'just-in-case' diapers on car rides longer than 45 minutes and for special events.

Then at puberty I reverted to bedwetting. That was when I learned to pin on my own diapers.

At 21 I lost my day control, and started wearing disposables away from home.

I have to wear nappies as I am incontinent but have become unashamedly DL as a result. I love being dependant on nappies.

I sometimes could say I have a legitimate reason to wear diapers as I have bowel issues that strike at random, but then again my bowel issues are so I frequent that it couldn’t quite be justified to say I “need” to wear 24/7.

I put yes for emotional reasons, but honestly if I go without wearing for a few days, it doesn't really upset me. After all, my brother was off for the holidays and the family was around so I didn't get to wear at all and didn't miss it all that much. But come Tuesday when he went back to work and things returned to normal, it did feel good to be back using diapers and dressing up. I simply don't let wearing diapers rule my life, but I enjoy them when I can.

I have no medical need for wearing diapers.  I wet the bed as a kid until almost 6 years old and I was diapered for bed every night in cloth diapers and plastic pants.  I developed a love for diapers around age 4 to 5 years old, and I know it was from having to wear them to bed.  Back in the late 1950's and early 1960's it wasn't such a big deal to have your young kids wear diapers to bed if they wet the bed, at least to age 5 or 6.  It wasn't openly discussed but it was pretty much accepted.  It wasn't until the 1970's or 1980's that psycologists started talking about how bad it was for a kid's self esteem to have to wear diapers to bed.  That changed in the 1990's with Goodnites and all that.

I was never treated like a baby, embarrassed or humiliated because I had to wear diapers to bed, but when I was 5 years old I do remember not wanting my cousins to find out when we were on a trip to visit them.  Although I have no medical need for diapers, I do enjoy wearing them a few times a week when I get up early in the morning for a few hours, or if I go out of town for the day shopping or running errands.  I look at diapers in a sexual way, not as a baby play type of thing, and I view them as just another hobby or interest I have among many.  I like cars, model trains, airplanes, going on trips, going to the casino now and then, reading books, fishing and hunting, building model kits and many other interests.  I also believe people should have a good healthy balance between their diaper lifestyle and actual adult life.  When it get's to the point you wear diapers all the time, stop doing things with your friends because you would rather stay home and play baby or wear diapers, then it is controling your life and you no longer have control over the fetish.  That's my opinion.  While some like acting like a baby, I couldn't wait to grow up and do adult things.  Drive a car, go on out of town trips by myself, buy a boat and go fishing, buy shotgun and do some hunting, get a pilot's license, etc.  There are so many cool adult things out there that I can't personally see acting like a baby all the time.  Hope that doesn't offend people as that is not my intention, it's just my own way of living life.  That said, I can still wear diapers while doing many of my hobbies and interests if I want, but I can also keep all interests separate from each other if I want to.  I wouldn't say I ned diapers as I have gone months without them, but I do enjoy them a few days a week.

Happy Holidays Everyone,

Rusty you bring up important and useful points, as usual. I'm 5 years your junior. You are the same age as my oldest sibling Penny. All of us grew up wearing cloth diapers and plastic pants. Penny, my two other sisters and our younger brother wore classic Curity 21x40" gauze diapers fastened by whatever brand of diaper pins Mom bought. Our plastic panties were made of vinyl by Gerber. In those days Mom could buy gerber pants large enough for me when I was 8 in most local stores. Gerber sold larger vinyl pants by mail order up to large enough for over-weight adults.

Previously I mentioned 'just-in-case' diapers. Actually since I joined DPF in 1990 I have written about those a lot. When I was young Mom encouraged me to be pen-pals with other kids who were challenged by bladder control problems. Often we communicated about needing diapers just once in awhile. Until I reached puberty I had great nighttime control, but if I fell asleep on a car trip I frequently wet my diaper. I do not remember taking naps at home, but I noticed that after toilet training all of my younger siblings were diapered for naps until they were old enough to not need naps.

Mom, her sisters and their mother all were totally incontinent by the time I was born. Only after I was 25 and an attorney and youngest sister Missy had given birth to a baby girl in January 1990 did Mom explain there was method to her madness of the just-in-case diapers. She hoped we would escape inherited bladder disease, but if we did continue wetting Mom wanted us to consider diapers as an ordinary form of underwear. Missy took that advice and nicely asked her daughter to wear just in case diapers. Unlike the rest of us Missy never developed night or naptime bladder control. She lost her day control a couple of years after puberty. It all worked out for Missy; she is a resident in urology now.

It is convenient that disposable baby and adult diapers were invented. The introduction of larger sizes od diapers and disposable pull-ups with heavy advertising seems to have brought attention to the fact perfectly sane and healthy children have delayed toilet learning and that people of all ages can and do revert to wetting due to injury of disease.

I wear diapers 24/7 for me they are method to relief stress. They make me feel comfortable and complete. I suppose for me it is all emotional or mental. I can go without diapers if I really want too or certain circumstances require me to do so, but only for a couple of days. I try to avoid these situations as much as is can, but I do not allow it to take over my life or intervene with my activities as an adult.

I voted "incontinence" because it's true, but my emotional need is much stronger and constant while my incontinence varies. Without at least pull-ups on I'd have accidents :o Pads would be enough sometimes but I can't tell what kind of day I'll be having till it happens so it simply makes more sense to wear diapers away from home where changes aren't as easy to deal with. I love feeling the bulk and the wetness so I'd be in diapers anyway by choice :girl_happy: My pooping is pretty regular, early morning and evenings when I get home from work. Evenings are easy because I need a change anyway; mornings are when pull-ups are handy as I poop 1-4 times in that first half hour. I don't like wearing poopy-pants myself-YMMV- but pull-ups are great for that. And they also help prevent chafing rash since they fit differently ;)

Like Rusty Pins I'm old enough to remember that there were only cloth diapers when I was young. Poor folks couldn't afford disposables (which were rotten back then and thus almost unknown anyway), so my young daydreams were  of me in a cloth diaper :) I was in my early teens with my diaper dreams gone dormant when I noticed the early tape-on Pampers and that rekindled my curiosity. They became my daydream material  I'm sure that's the reason why I prefer white plastic-backed diapers now.

Diapers aren't sexual for me, though that element was there for awhile when I started wearing them. But the same thing happened when I began wearing panties and crossdressing in my early 20's :whistling: On years worth of reflection it's now clear that I was trying to boost my nearly non-existent sex drive. I've come to accept my almost asexual nature and while there is some fetish connection to my current daydreams it is rather small and only serves to add some spice to my thoughts of sex which don't happen often. On the rare occasion I feel and daydream of some time as an AB though I wouldn't want that all the time ;)

Other than those unwillingly incontinent, I believe that there's some blend of these motivations and more in almost all of us with the percentages of each varying. Nothing wrong with that- we're ABDL together and the sharing of our thoughts enhances life for all of us

Hah, we've revealed a scripting problem with the board.  'Baby June's sig, above, has bold type but must not be shutting it off at the end of the sig.  Bold is then carried throughout the rest of the posts.  I wonder if this is what's causing the 'bold' throughout.  Is everyone else seeing that too?

Back to the topic... I didn't know why I felt compelled to start this.  But I've noticed that my stress or edginess is much less in the daytime after I've worn and used a night diaper.  I wear and use one just about every night now.  Undesirable stress, but not overwhelming, was a (manageable) problem for me before, so I don't know if it's really 'good for me' or not to wear.  I have a theory that the response is hormonal in nature, may be related to vasopressin.

I wonder if the bold will go away if I put a </b> here.

Somehow I got hooked on wearing plastic, especially plastic panties, instead of diapers, But the feelings I get when wearing are similar to most of those others have mentioned in the thread, and I can't imagine living without my plastics.

Baby June must have fixed or hidden the script issue. Her sig has changed, and the bold-everywhere problem has gone away!

Need or want? Certainly don't need diapers in a medical sense. I am not incontinent, although I am working towards  incontinence but only when in diapers.

Medical issues aside, I enjoy diapers and I really WANT to wear them. If someone told me I could no longer wear diapers, I think I would be in a seriously depressed mood. In that way, perhaps I do NEED diapers in the way any addict NEEDS the "drug" that gets them through the day.

I’m not incontinent in the sense that I can’t hold my pee or poo, but I due suffer from bowel leakage and I use Butterfly pads during the day for it. Unfortunately Butterfly pads while work very well for what I need, there not as readily available and will sometimes supstitute with pull-up diapers.

With that being said 9 times out of 10 if I’m wearing a diaper ( especially a tape one) it’s just for shits and giggles…literally:rolleyes:

Yes, but not at first. Always liked wearing when I was younger. Have always occasionally wet the bed. Diapers solved everything at once. More recently after a surgery I had I've started having "seepage" issues, the hospital listed on things I would need when discharged and at the top of the list was "Protective garments" with a list of suggestions (Diapers, pull ups, pads, etc.) to deal with the "Seepage" so been 24/7 because of that for almost 2 years now. On a side note I suppose wearing diapers 24/7 was better than the alternative, which was death.. so, win there.
