Potential way to recover lost stories

I found a method for recovering lost stories that so far has a pretty high success rate for me, but since it relies on Google's caches, it will become less effective as time goes on.

  1. Google search site:dailydiapers.com "Title of story". The quotes are important. The title must be typed exactly as it appears in the story. If you can remember any exact quotes from they story, they can be very helpful too, just use them in place of the title, or in another set of quotes after it. Another good option if you can't remember the title of the story exactly is to Google site:dailydiapers.com and then the author's name and the names of any characters you can remember.
  2. Look for a search result that appears to contain part of the text of the story you are looking for.
  3. There should be a little down arrow next to the green url under the heading of the search result. Click on the green arrow and then click "Cached". This will bring you to Google's temporarily stored version of the page from when it was last crawled by Google. Sometimes the arrow will not be there, meaning a fully cached version of that page is not available. Try looking through other results or a different search engine.
  4. If you find the story you were looking for on a cached page, make sure to copy and paste it and save it somewhere else. Google will eventually update their cache and the story will be lost.
  5. If you don't find anything in the Google search results, try some other search engines. Most of them give you some sort of option to view a cached version of the webpage, although not all offer the ability to site search. I found most of mine in on authors' profile pages, as the actual story pages have mostly been removed or their cache updated by now. Here's an example of GFOP's profile page, where I was able to recover the stories "Jackie's Play Date" and "Baby's Unexpected Trip". (Note, Google may have updated their cache of this page by the time you read this, in which case the stories will no longer be there)

This method is time sensitive, and as time goes on most search engines will update their caches, so please try to save your stories as soon as you can.

I was following Gilded Crib so I think I have most of it in my email notifications after the first chapter.

Any chance you could message it to me? Or maybe to the authors in case they didn't save it? There were some universe ideas that seemed well thought...

I think the biggest thing about this crash is that it's valuable to share your stories on a couple sites so if one crashes we don't see some gems disappear!

Did you ever recover this story? If so would you be able to send me it or have the author re-post it?

Do you still have those chapters saved? would you be willing to share them with me?

I'll tell KWOceans that people are really looking for this one.

She still has it all, she's just wanted to actually get more written on it before she posted any.

This doesn't seem to work well for wattpad I've been trying to get all the parts of Jenne and Timmy's New AB Life By Tom Speed of which all the parts not just Parts 1 and 2 were posted but all the parts were posted but are not any more

I tried using the trick for "Gilded Crib" as well but most of it seems to be lost. Anyone have that or is the author able to repost?

I still have it, don t worry. There is a plan to repost Gilded in the future, once I have more chapters written. All my stories I wrote on Google drive are safe, nothing was lost except for my original story, which someone graciously re-emailed me so, I do have them all and they will make a reappearance, don t worry.

Did you ever make progress on this or is a Gilded Crib gone for good?
