I think that is a maternity pad. There's quite a bit that comes out of the uterus after birth.

Congrats to her and for being brave enough to not only tell her story, but show a less than flattering photo (for herself).  Something very intimate and probably most would never speak about she has a photo of.

That's quite amazing.
