How have you explained to your doctor?

Recommended Posts

I've never had that situation come up, but when it comes to doctors I just don't care. If I had to be in diapers in their office, I'd just go with the flow (pardon the pun). If they asked why, I'd tell them why, whether it was for desire or legit reasons. I wouldn't personally fib about the desire because if you tell your doctor you wear for a reason, they are going to want to poke their nose into the whys and whats, as that's their job. No sense in weaving uncomfortable webs of lies that are only going to expose you. On that note, I wouldn't wear to a doctor unless I had a reason.

Both my primary care and urologist knows of my diaper usage. I expand that my urge incontinence was getting worse and diapers was my choice to deal with the issue. Both wanted to try meds but I told them I was happy with the diapers for now. That was 4 years ago, now they never bring them up during my exams. I did have an overnight hospital stay last year and they had diapers waiting for if I needed but I told them I would bring my own.

My Doctor and diabetic nurse know I am incontinent and wear nappies. Occasionally thery ask if I am coping OK but usually it is not memtioned. Recently I saw a different nurse for tests following a change of medication. The new medication had a side effect that can cause some incontinence but for me that wasn't an issue as I am already dependant on nappies. The new nurse suprised me as she just came out with has the new pills made any difference to your bedwetting. I wasn't embarrassed and said it was difficult to tell really as I am always wet when I wake. She looked a little surprised and said "Oh I guess it won't bother you then" and left it at that.

I had to have a blood test today. I was feeling mischievous so I donned a nice thick night time nappy and crinkly plastic pants under my jeans. Anyone could tell I was wearing a nappy. I wet it while driving to the surgery which made it bulge slightly at the front. Of course there was no reaction from the medical staff but I hope someone noticed I was wearing a nappy.

Although I have tons of specialists and a GP none have ever asked about my IC , they know I see a urologist and therefore they stay out of my genitourinary affairs, probably because the more they know the more they have to document and nobody wants to volunteer to do paperwork. I must say it's fun though when I have a substitute urologist ( mine is sometimes doing an emergency surgery) and they ask me how many times I get up at night, they are always surprised when I say none,I just wet myself about then they find the part of my chart were the doc has been prescribing my diapers for the last 17 years.

When I got a new doc, I said it was congenital, I wear diapers, not a problem. They asked if I was seeing a urologist, I said there wasn't a need to. I suppose at some point in the future, there may be a reason, and I will when there is. For now, the only difference is labs don't involve urinalysis, it's done via bloodwork. I pay for my own diapers.

Well now that they have all but done away with the digital rectal prostate exam ,my urologist gives me a long "leash" I used to see him twice a year and get it done because of an enlarged prostate , no cancer just a softball sized prostate , last visit he said the medication is shrinking your prostate the catheters are shrinking your bladder, you are doing really good if you need me call other wise I don't need to see you for two years, that was a treat , moral of the story , you probably won't need a urologist anytime soon.

Once my urologist decided my problem was incurable he refered me to the continence nurse. I see her once a year .
