I really don't know how much effect they would have (I'm guess not a lot) but I wouldn't advise taking anything that will alter your hormone levels without asking and without the supervision of a doctor.

FWIW, a few peeps say they have some effect. More than a few peeps say then do nothing. More peeps than that say they got ill after using them (and this category includes a lot of GG's too :o ). Black Cohosh seems to be the troubling one as best I can tell. I wouldn't waste my money on that stuff even though.

If you're truly on a course toward transition, what you need is prescription meds for this purpose. Along with that will go regular blood tests for liver function, regular medical monitoring, and finding the maximum doses you can handle which will vary by individual. There are some who cannot take some of those meds due to low tolerance or adverse reactions to them. They also have the potential to be deadly so you have to know what to watch out for. Most insurers will not cover these costs but some policies will cover some of them. It is not a cheap venture at all

Most Doctors won't issue scrips until you have documentation from a licensed Therapist and a licensed Psychiatrist, and those folks will generally not issue that documentation until you've completed at least one year living completely in your new gender role. That is the medical standard for folks like us. And once again most insurance doesn't cover this, and once again it's not cheap

They will insist on the real life experience for at least a year to make sure you don't change your mind. Regardless, hormone changes are very slow and not always as dramatic as you might want... For instance, if you can't take going out dressed as a woman now, what will change after a week, month or year on hormones?

Getting blood tests is something you will be getting a lot of if you get put on hormones but you need to speak to a doctor before you start taking anything and discuss it with them. It is a long process for a reason. There are different doses, different methods, you might need a testosterone blocker... There are a lot of things to consider and you need doctors and specialists to be monitoring it to make sure what you get is what you need. Hormones affect a lot of body processes and getting them to the right levels is important.

Seeing a psychologist is a good start because they can refer you to the specialist places. For Alice, she saw her regular GP, who referred her to a support group and psychologist, from there she was referred to a gender specialist, after a few meetings she was put on hormones (although they are still trying to find the right dose), a year of that and she is getting her second opinion and will be on a waiting list for surgery. That is to just give an idea of where your process might take you though we are in the UK so things may be slightly different elsewhere.

Friday will be a week in women's clothing I get laughed at but I am learning a lot of people support me. My feelings won't change I hate errections and I have 4 to 5 a day. Today I woke up hard from 6 am till 3:30 pm. I will be worse depressed if I don't get the errections always hurt me I'm not able to relieve my self for 20 yearsI am at the popoint I want to cut it off. I've had 40 years of praying to God to make me a woman all throughout the day. But my family's churches and all the churches say what I'm doing is wrong I love to go to church and worship but I cacan't that's what radio is for I'm happy with my change a big weight is off my chest .

Most Universal Unitarian congregations are accepting of LGBT people, and most larger towns in the US will have a UU Church  Personally I think God made us the way we are intentionally, so what human's thoughts can be valid against that? Nobody has ever been able to show me where Gentiles are forbidden from being LGBT. Other religions maybe, but not Gentiles.

The Transition process is slow and rigorous for a reason- you can't easily undo permanent body changes so they want to be absolutely certain that you must have them before they will let you go forward. The only thing worse than not getting what you need it getting something you can't change and finding out it was wrong for you. The standards and requirements are getting more lenient but in the end they make the decision whether to allow you to go ahead or not, and not all of the people involved are as understanding of modern gender concepts as they should be <_< Some still see gender as binary-only :bash:

The purported supplement stuff - herbs, soy beans, powders - are pretty much going to have a negligible visual effect. Honestly, you're more likely to get the moodswings than any change. You're going to need the genuine article, and if you want that done safely (I'm talking 'self medding carries a non-negligible risk of death' safely) then you'll have to go through those care pathways. Yes, that fucking sucks.

I once watched a pair or trio of actors on stage transition from one gender to the opposite not once in a performance, but twice.

I think Conundrum, by Jan (was James) Morris should be on your reading list.
