The Look The Cashier Gives You.

Recommended Posts

A couple of years back I was going on an overnight road trip by myself. So I stop at a chain pharmacy on the way out of town to by supplies. A woman my age was at the cashier counter when I walked up. I paid for my purchase and asked if they had a restroom I could use. The woman said sure and pointed in the direction of where it was. I pick up my bag and turn when the woman tells me that bags are not allowed to be taken to the restroom. I pointed to the bag and politely told her that was why I needed the restroom. When she comprehended my reply she was really embarrassed and told me to go ahead and take them with me. Then on my way to the restroom I walked by a manager type. Who stopped me to tell me that I could not take a bag into the restroom. The cashier yelled to the manager that it was all right, let him go! When I did what I needed to do I left the store as discreetly as I could...

I've been in a similar situation out of town where I have bought a package of diapers at a Rite Aid store and have needed to change. I first ask at the pharmacy which is right next to the restroom. I hold up the package of diapers and say to the pharmacist (or someone working behind the counter there), "If I pay for these first at the register, can I take them into the restroom"? I was told that it would be no problem as long as I paid for them first.

It's ironic, a local medical store is right down the street about 3 blocks. I've never been in there because I cant self-diaper. Sigh, so close yet so far.

This thread pops up from time to time, and as most have said cashiers don't care it's just another purchase to ring up. Year's ago when I used to buy in the stores, my biggest fear was running into someone I know. I buy online now so it's not an issue.

This I understand...

Last week I was picking up some ATNs at a somewhat out of the way medical supply place and when I turned to leave someone I knew was behind me in line...... I didn't say anything, he didn't say anything and away I went...

I have been asked on three separate occasions. Every time by dumb highschool jocks who think they are just amazing. (just so you know, I can cry on demand.)

This is how the conversation went:

"Dude... Why are you buying these?"

"I have my reasons, please ring me up and let me be on my way."

(few seconds of silence while he rings up everything else, most of the time they don't ask any more, but the three times, this is the rest.)

"Are you into some weird diaper fetish?"

"I have cancer (tears) and it has made it so I can't control my bladder."

(horrified look, trembling lip) "Oh my god... I am so sorry... Here, let me..." (uses his employee discount card to give me a good discount)

(I wipe away tears) "Thank you... I won't say anything to the manager, don't worry."

Serves them right for asking, plus I got 10-25% off depending on the store. Since my hair is really thin and I have a high hair line, most people wouldn't question it. I think it teaches the stupid pricks a lesson in going too far, and I hope that they are a little more sensitive to people from then on.

for some reason i don't believe a word of this.. this sounds completely fabricated

Have to admit that the "Are you into some weird diaper fetish?" question struck me as an odd first guess from the cashier. Made me skeptical, too.

But if it did happen, I think another good reply to the cashier would have been to ask rather incredulously, "How is that the first question that comes to your mind?" Turns it back at him.

Though I've used a good medical sob story once when dealing with inappropriately noisy questions.

It was paraphrasing. I think his exact words were "Do you, like... Get off on pissing yourself?" It was a while back, so I don't remember his exact words. Around here, nobody makes a first guess that you are helping someone else. Nevada has the lowest volunteer rate of all the states (per capita, I think) so the idea that someone could be taking care of an elder is not commonly the first thing that comes to mind.

One time I was in a Walgreens and bought a bag of Depends and nothing else. I went to the cash register and a really cute girl was working there. She was watching me the entire time I was In line and as I was getting checked out she gave me the look "you are different and I like it" stare smile. I felt like she totally understood why I was buying diapers. I talked to her for a little bit and then left. It made me wonder if she was an abdl too. Too bad I wasn't near where I lived, I would have asked her out! Haha

When I used to buy in the stores I had a couple of girls ask if they were for me. Although it sounds intrusive, both occasions this happened they were alluding to bagging them for me... Apparently if I hadn't fessed up and said they were for me then I guess they weren't going to bag them... I'm just guessing of course but on both occasions I answered "yes" and both times the diapers were immediately placed in a bag LOL.

what does the lowest volunteer rate have anything to do with it?

like that is the most ridiculous question a cashier could ask and would get them fired.. and they would never say that.. let alone..as you say, it happened to you several times..

the chances of a cashier asking someone buying adult diapers if they get off on pissing themselves is just so low.. like you have a better chance of winning the lottery than someone asking that..

i still don't believe you. not sure if others on here do or not. but i am pretty sure they don't lol

for the most part I try not to look at the cashier, which I guess is a dead give away that I'm buying for myself. the last two times have been total opposites. the time before last i didn't realize i had put on my last diaper the night before, and when I woke up the next morning like i always do i soaked the diaper about 10 min after getting out of bed. after eating my breakfast i went to get another diaper and then realized i had none. so i had to go to the store wearing my very wet diaper to buy some more. I had to wait for the cashier to come to the register since I was one of the first customers in the door. I tried not to act nervous but the look she gave me told me that she some how knows these are for me. after she gave me my change she quietly told me that she would escort me to the back where the restrooms are if I want her to. I looked at her with a puzzled look on my face, it was then that she told me that my diaper that I was wearing has leaked all over my pants. I just got beet red and got the heck out there. this last time I went to get more diapers and the self checkouts were full and as I was heading down to the other ones a cashier asked if I was ready and I told her yeah, not thinking. she was a pretty cashier too, but she never asked if they were for my or even gave me that look. she just smiled gave my reciept and bagged the diapers up and said have a nice night.

I've never had a problem buying diapers. Of course, I don't go out of my way to see the cashier's face, either, but I try not to make a big deal about my purchases, and they seem to act normal about it, too. For all they know, I'm buying diapers for a relative.

I had another customer buy depends the other day. I just asked how his Christmas went. I made smalltalk, and made no mention of the diapers. We can get fired for embarrassing customers.

I was buying some size 7 for stuffers when the gal at the counter asked if they were for me. I'm a 38" waist...REALLY? I just told her, "nah, I couldn't fit my fat ass in these." Didn't say too much after that.

with most of the stuff being able to buy online.

I dont see why to bother with stores.

The biggest problem i found is most like wal-greens, kroger, wal-mart or cvs only carry depends and not the good kind of depends never see the fitted briefs anymore. Or they sell the pull on versions of something that dont hold alot.

well for those that do try to find a medical supply store.

At one point be had a place called baby depo that sold baby and adult diapers.

They moved and stopped selling adult diapers.

If you have to buy at the store and fear do what i did when i was working go to a 24/7 place late at night.

Make up a store about being a caregiver or buying it for your grandparents who need them.

The times i had to the cashier where always like yeah thats the bad part about getting old not being able to control your bladder

I've only bought in person once....they kept it pretty professional, I didn't pick up on much - although I do think that something may have crossed his mind. But, whatever it was - if it was even there, and not in my head - he kept to himself and was pretty professional about it.

I've bought adult diapers in stores many times, and never got any "look". Like another poster said, they mostly act non-interested.

The first few times I bought diapers I was nervous when I went to the cashier, but now it is like second nature to me. I dont care what the cashier thinks anymore, and I have bought shopping carrs full of diapers at a time. About the only strange look I have gotten recently was when I had a shopping cart full of Tenas that I was getting from the salvation army. One of the workers there gave me the thumbs up and said somthing about what a great deal I was getting or domething like that. I really couldnt quite understand him. It was a good deal though. 8 bags of Tena 25 count classic plus for 8.00 a bag.
